Hey Steph the veggie farm I used to work at as a kid/teenager always washed their veggies b4 they took them to market to sell. Plus u shouldn’t b using dawn dish soap to wash veggies. Use a vinegar/water solution.
I noticed everyone saying vinegar and water to wash the veggies! The best way i have found is to pour 1 cup vinegar into 1 gallon water and then dry and slice! I use 1 part flour and 2 part cornmeal and season salt before freezing on the trays! And then putting in freezer bags!
I would flash freeze the coated squash on a tray, then bag them so they don't stick to one another. Also, fry them frozen to keep them from getting mushy and to have a nice crunch. You can also dehydrate your squash if your freezer is too full.
The CDC 😂 like we trust them for anything. So when things are sprayed with pesticides, and as we know, even the so-called organic labeled food is sprayed in this case only with so-called approved pesticides, that is all inside the vegetables since it’s porous? Hmmm 🤔
I was thinking the exact same thing. For the love of all that is good... no unhealthy soaps. Use vinegar... Not Braggs! Braggs has gone to the dark side. IMHO. Rumor has it Gates bought them.
You believe what the cdc says? After all the lies they’ve told us over the last 4 years. I would use homemade apple cider vinegar instead. And Castile soap instead of dawn. It’s the chemicals.
CDC? Really? Then I would use the soap. They don't want you to wash the pesticides off. These beautiful vegetables might be organic and pesticide free. But if you buy in the grocery store like most of the public does, they have pesticides. If they say soap is absorbed, where do the pesticides go? I would rather have soap than pesticides.
Omg i never knew! I have always given away the excess veggies to neighbors...i think i will freeze them this time..maybe sharing with one neighbor...thank you for this video.❤🎉❤
I have changed my method of freezing: I cook a proper dish - zucchini fried with onions, garlic, ginger, some garam masala, smoked paprika or whatever. Sometimes I make it in a green curried sauce or mixed with other veggies from the garden like grren beans, tomatoes and only then do I freeze. It seems to freeze better, tastes good even after freezing and I do not have to bother making the meal.
Hey there. So glad I clicked on this video. Such an easy way to freeze squash and zucchini. Thank you. I will be watching out for you. I need a easy on freezing tomatoes. 🙋
Put tomatoes whole in freezer bags…in the freezer they go. When you want to use them…run under warm water and the skins will fall off. They will be mushy…perfect for red sauces and casserole type dishes ❤
I freeze cherry tomatoes whole. Just pop them right in the freezer in quart size bags. Ready to dump into the pan for a pasta dish. Couldn’t be easier!
Hi Steph. Like the different variety. When I freeze for Frying, I coat in Flour and cornmeal and season then Vacuum seal as they last up to a year and when ready to use, I don't defrost I use in frozen state. Also I treat the others the same way I would a frozen veggie. Defrost makes them mushy for me. I do scrub my veggies but with 5% vinegar not 4% which is now being sold, so be careful and water. I have never had a problem. No soap especially Dawn on my veggies. Love the shredded way, I so need silicone holders. I don't flash freeze anything but I do set up on cookie sheets in a single layer on parchment then vacuum seal. Thanks for the tips.
They were beautiful. I got these from a local family farm and all of their produce is just amazing! I love supporting local family farmers whenever I can. Thanks for watching and I hope you have a blessed day! 🤗😊🤗
Thank you steph for showing this way of of preserving squash and zuchin,I have squash and zucchini plants grew, hopefully I'll have squash and zuchini❤😊
Since dawn is so poisonous as people are saying, what do people wash their dishes with or in? If you are buying vegetables from your grocery stores, don’t mind the chemicals, they are already added lol. I use dawn too Stephanie, if I buy from the stores, but most my veggies are homegrown.
Thank you for sharing this. I have done zucchini for years but never thought I could freeze summer squash. Shared with my nears and dears and also on FB
Hi Stephanie. I am new to your channel. I am from Texas. Have you ever tried frying bite size pieces of russet potato, okra, zuccini and squash together in a cornmeal batter. You can buy the okra from the grocery store already frozen amd breaded for a short cut. The vegetables compliment each other and are so good. Season to taste with salt and pepper in your batter before frying. My mother use to make this, it was one of my favorites. I like your channel and especially giving create to your sweet neighbor and God for His blessings. Happy 4th of July! 😊
I usualy use them in tomato sauce. I grind them up in the food processor ,yellow and green, carrots garlic, and peppers from the garden throw in the tomatoes in the food processor. And make my sauce my family cant stand any other store bought sauce. All through the food processor. Oh and o also grind zucchini for zucchini bread and freeze that for winter.
Thank you so much! I hate blanching and the squash is always mushy. I’m definitely going to try this, assuming I don’t have a squash crop failure like last year.
Thanks for the idea of freezing. I agree with group. I use vinegar and water to wash. It’s just me. You do you. I never thought of freezing. But up I will now
I love cooking zucchini and yellow squash in my vegetable soup in the fall and winter. They add beautiful color and flavor to the soup. I have never thought of buying them in the summer to freeze them for winter cooking. Will they be mushy after being frozen? Could I shred zucchini and freeze it for winter quick bread baking?
What about putting up zucchini for zucchini bread? I usually shred mine when i use it for bread, but if I do that and throw some in the freezer, it pretty much comes out mushy. Is there any way to freeze it for the bread? Could I just cut the ends off, slice it down the middle freeze it and, after thawing grate/shred it for the bread? I really like all the fresh veggies God gives us.
Yeah but the veg actually take in detergent the zucs and squash are soft skinned. And she did use a lot of detergent. Dr Oz had a recipe on his show once he added vinegar and a small amount of bicarb no dtergent
Nobody's ever told me but I kind of figured out on my own.... I'm sure peeps will be telling me if I'm wrong...lol, but I think if it's a vegetable it needs to be blanched, fruits not. Technically tomatoes, okra, squash, are considered fruit. If it contains the seeds of the plant is a fruit. So peppers, eggplant, avocados, straight to the freezer.
I would encourage vinegar and water also. I am not a scientist but maybe check with your state university extension office food specialist to be sure. There may be changes to the safe preparation and preservation of your harvest. Remember to compost the ends you cut off. Your heart is in the right place.
They do have a high water content but mine are never mushy. I usually use them way before anything like that could happen. Thanks for watching and I hope you have a blessed day! 😊
Oh no never use dawn or any dish soap get a veggie wash or make your own , my garden is all organic if I washed in that then the whole organic growing would be no longer , please research for a healthy way of washing. Peace ☮️
Thank You for sharing. Dawn is a good thing to use for washing things. That is about the only soap that will not harm food, animals, humans. It tax the wax off the food good. Vinegar and water is good too but I usually use that for washing fruit. Thick skins that tend to be greasy or waxy I clean with dawn.
I am new to your channel. When you freeze your Zucchini, they won't be soft or mushy when thawed before cooking? Also, I make many loaves of Zucchini bread, so you are saying I can grind them down and freeze and that too won't be mushy to use? Thank you so much for this information. I grow my own Zucchini.
I don’t thaw them before adding to a dish. Any liquid that is created is liquid that would have been created normally. As for the zucchini bread, you can grate the zucchini and place in freezer bags in the quantities you need for baking. Such as , if your recipe calls for 2-cups of grated zucchini, bag in 2-cup quantities. Label your bags and they will be good for 6-9 months. Then use as normal when ready to bake. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and I hope you have a blessed weekend! 🤗😊🤗
Dawn soap is left on the vegetable no matter how you wash It soaps quickly through skin of vegetable...USE 25%VINEGAR/75%PURIFIED WATER IN A DORY BOTTLE. LAY IN COLLANDER--AIR DRIP DRY... MUCH BETTER METHOD, SORRY DEAR, IM TWICE YOUR AGE WE HAD NUMEROUS FARMS GROWING UP. COOKS FOR AT OUR BIG HOME ON A BEAUTIFUL SOUTHERN BAYOU...❤❤❤
When you thaw the battered ones are they soggy? Does water end up in the bag? Can eggplant be battered and frozen the same way. My eggplant are the long narrow ones.
Those are some beautiful squash! I have two questions: Could you add carrots to the squash/zucchini mix and freeze? If yes, do you peel the carrots first? Second question: my m-i-l always added flour and cornmeal when frying. Have you ever heard of that? Thanks. I enjoyed this.
You can add carrots and use the same process. However, you do not need to peel the carrots. By not peeling them they will preserve more of the nutrients. To your second question, it’s a personal preference. I’m familiar with both ways. I like a thinner coating as opposed to a flour & cornmeal which would make a thicker coating. Thanks for watching and I hope you have a blessed day! 😊
Why does everyone have to comment about the Dawn dish soap? Geez people! If you don't like the idea of washing veggies with Dawn, then just do it your way instead. I fry them from frozen and do not defrost them completely. Shake them loose and add directly to fry pan or air fryer. Always place them in oil away from you as with anything you are frying for safety. Super easy! Thanks for watching and your question. Have a blessed weekend! 😊
great video....I think you can use a new kitchen faucet I think the one you have is 100 years old...I no when I got my new one that is tall it makes it so much better especially when washing big pots and bowls
You are very careful to wash your veggies which is good, but you don’t rinse them. You are leaving a soap & chemical residue. For your own safety, please rinse or down the road you’ll eventually developed stomach, intestinal, and even esophageal problems. I know. Have first hand knowledge of knowing people who had this because omitted rinsing. Otherwise I really liked your video
Hey Steph the veggie farm I used to work at as a kid/teenager always washed their veggies b4 they took them to market to sell. Plus u shouldn’t b using dawn dish soap to wash veggies. Use a vinegar/water solution.
100% agree...no dawn!
I totally agree. No foaming at the mouth for me!!
Fruits and vegetables should not be washed until you actually used them because it starts the decaying process
Yes exactly not soap....ohh my no
Dawn is filled with toxic chemicals. Dont buy it
Vinegar and water to clean!!! Healthier idea.
Yes I agree no no soap 😮
I also agree
A little baking soda too.

How do you cook after frozen? Deep fry?
I SO AGREE, don't use a chemical on your vegetables
I use one part flour and one part cornmeal, with seasoned salt. I freeze mine on a cookie sheet before bagging so they don't stick together.
I've never breaded them before freezing them, Great tip
You can fill the plastic cup first, then place your zip loc back over it and flip!!! So much faster.
Skip the toxic dawn detergent
Amen on that!
Agreed 🤝
I love your bag holder . Works well, doesnt cost the earth and has dual purpose. See ... You dont need all the gadgets.
I do love some kitchen gadgets but simple is always good too! Thanks for watching and I hope you have a blessed weekend!!! 😊
I would flash freeze the coated squash on a tray, then bag them so they don't stick to one another. Also, fry them frozen to keep them from getting mushy and to have a nice crunch.
You can also dehydrate your squash if your freezer is too full.
Thanks
Thanks
M
A LIL FLOUR IN MEAL WILL MAKE IT STICK BETTER
Thats what I do as well.😊
Thanks for the great idea on holding the bags open using a glass. I will be using that idea for other things as well.
Vegetable skins are porous and can absorb that soap. The CDC recommends NOT using soap for that very reason.
The CDC 😂 like we trust them for anything. So when things are sprayed with pesticides, and as we know, even the so-called organic labeled food is sprayed in this case only with so-called approved pesticides, that is all inside the vegetables since it’s porous? Hmmm 🤔

I have never thought freezing zuchinni! Thanks so much for your knowledge! I will definitely be freezing some zucchini!
Oh my, I cannot believe that these precious beautiful vegetables went into the most chemical dish soap, poison
I just rinse my veggies under the tap. I don’t use pesticides in my garden.
Thank you for posting this video. It is so helpful.

Those are about the purtiest squashes and zucchini I ever did see!!❤
They were beautiful. I got these from a local family farm and all of their produce is just amazing! I love supporting local family farmers whenever I can. Thanks for watching and I hope you have a blessed day! 🤗😊🤗

I use white vinergar to clean.
So do I , in a spray bottle I keep white vinegar , I also use it for benches and dishes , no dawn on the veg
I was just getting ready to freeze some summer squash. I am glad I saw your video.

Hi...how do you do bite size potatoes? Thank you.❤
I've never seen anyone wash vegetables in washing up liquid
thank you lorettawinsor3976! I have never heard of using household detergent on vegetables!

What's your process please for shredding/grinding zucchini and freezing?
Do you add the zucchini to the bread batter still frozen or do you thaw it & squeeze out the juice first before adding to your batter?
Thank you so much! I hate blanching and the squash is always mushy. I’m definitely going to try this, assuming I don’t have a squash crop failure like last year.
Beautiful squash..Steph tyvm for sharing!❤
So glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for watching and I hope you have a blessed weekend! 🤗😊🤗
Love home grown veges nothing like it❤
I agree with you I know my squash would taste soapy

You wash your dishes with dawn then eat off the plates don't you. The key is to rinse thoroughly.
Yeah but the veg actually take in detergent the zucs and squash are soft skinned. And she did use a lot of detergent. Dr Oz had a recipe on his show once he added vinegar and a small amount of bicarb no dtergent
Steph, i loved your video!❤
It would be nice to have a video on your process of thawing and cooking
Good job I love both, hope my turn out as pretty as your.
Thank you!
Great video !! Thank you !!
Do you let them thaw completely before frying or sautéed him them
Thanks for sharing ❤
Steph can I peel them and do the same freeze. My husband don’t like peelings on.

Out of your mind washing vegetables with dawn soap. Scary
Dish soap should not be used. That is not batteterd, just coated I batter mine, freeze them. Singly on a sheet pan then freeze in bags

I like to use a squattier plastic cup , works great.
But after you freeze them do they not go mushy? I've never froze either of these before. Thank you for sharing.😊

When you thaw the battered ones are they soggy? Does water end up in the bag? Can eggplant be battered and frozen the same way. My eggplant are the long narrow ones.
In my water I use vinegar & a couple of drops of white iodine, especially for berries & other veggies that come from who knows where.

You could add peppers without blanching , carrots need blanching
Dawn 😮
When do you add your seasoning...salt and pepper.
I add seasoning when the vegetables are cooking not prior to freezing. Great question! Thanks for watching and I hope you have a blessed weekend! 😊
Hello Steph enjoy your videos
Why does everyone have to comment about the Dawn dish soap?
Geez people! If you don't like the idea of washing veggies with Dawn, then just do it your way instead. But do it quietly instead of criticizing a great tutorial video. There is more than one way to skin a cat!

Thanks for the great video! You made me a subscriber! 👏
Thank you for watching and your thoughtful response! Have a blessed weekend and welcome to my channel!!! 😊
Do you know if green tomatoes could be done this way also?
If organic why wash ?
Same with the squash u don't need to cut up that small
Just slice them both or how ever u fry them or prepare them but some that small maybe but well
I believe they actually have a plastic stand to hold the bags on Amazon for those interested.
Thanks!
So just cut/shred and freeze. 👍
As long as they are clean and turn out it doesn't matter whether it is dawn or vinegar.
Steph, I’m in Texas. Where are you located?
So after you freeze the Squash with the meal on it when you thaw them out is it going to have moisture on it?
I fry them from frozen and do not defrost them completely. Shake them loose and add directly to fry pan or air fryer. Always place them in oil away from you as with anything you are frying for safety. Super easy! Thanks for watching and your question. Have a blessed weekend! 😊
Merci excect for the soap
What else could I coat the squash with beside cornmeal.?
How long will they last in freezer?
No dish soap
Butternut squash?? How to do n prepare n cook??
great video....I think you can use a new kitchen faucet I think the one you have is 100 years old...I no when I got my new one that is tall it makes it so much better especially when washing big pots and bowls
If it's not broke why fix it??? There's nothing wrong with her faucet...nag, nag, nag... Lol. Everyone has their opinion 😊
She rinsed them under running water
Using dawn you might as well left the pesticides on them😂
Why on earth would you use such a toxic chemical on your food? You can use white vinegar or, baking soda or food grade 3% hydrogen peroxide.
Could you please explain what is the purpose of blanching? Thank you!❤
Blanching is a process that helps to preserve the color, flavor, and texture of vegetables or fruits prior to freezing.
Can you add onions with the squash and zucchini blend?
Yes, onions freeze very well. Chop them into the size you prefer and toss them in.
I do that all the time ! When I take them out I steam them to cook. So good ❤
