I always thought that my peninsula was there to try to hide just how "square" that the island actually is. That is why the beach line is so wavy, trying to make it look "more natural". I think that the problem is, that the database that keeps track of what all is placed at every grid square on the island, is much like an array variable, which works a lot better with regular rectangles, as odd shapes create lots of unusable holes in the array memory space. But it would be cool if the peninsula was there for some great feature that never got implemented. Like oh I don't know, maybe a long bridge to another island to decorate, that could be some sort of "upgrade" upon completing some level of island development goal or something? A perfect use for the (Mario) Pipe. And I found the Pipe to be sort of not-quite-as-useful as I would have hoped. 2 Pipes works great, but there seems no way to pair them once the number exceeds 2. Yet in the old Mario games, they paired just fine. No unpredictability as to where the Pipe would transport you to. So I put my 2 extra Pipes into storage, leaving just the 2. The Pipe could have been used as a short-cut to my 2nd island. Such an ideal use, if I could just add a 2nd island somehow? This game leaves too many things for the player to just "figure out" without giving us enough clues, unless we watch YT videos such as this. Like what is the mystery to gaining all the gold tools? Can it be all explained in just a short few sentences?
A couple personal things I wished the airport had was a storage area to the right of the exit where the little wooden dock area is so you and visitors can have access to their own character’s storage respectively much like in New Leaf’s Train Station interior, and another thing I feel like would’ve added a touch of life to the airport is having either Copper or Booker standing by that same area to have as a mini guide to visitors wanting to know who is visiting on that day instead of Isabelle telling you each day or something. I’d appreciate seeing those friendly doggos around as I make my daily rounds as well as chores when I play the game.
it makes me so sad how much NH could have been. so much more could have been added. not just with multiplayer mini games, but the switch mini games, the ability to call or be called by villagers to replace the megaphone, missing characters, more stuff with current side characters, and so many other missing things
It's possible the peninsula may have been planned to be a "wishing fountain" location. ACPG and ACCF both had a wishing well with an NPC that rewarded the player with a gold axe (with Sarina also having a chance of giving the silver axe or nothing at all).
I quit making golden axes, because I could not find what special power-up benefit that it has? And I never seem to have enough gold nuggets, and so now I also do not make the golden shovel. The golden slingshot appears to have better aim. The golden watering can waters more crops or flowers at once. And will I ever get the golden net or the golden fishing pole? The game creators have made it *impossible* for me to fill the bugs and fish wings of the museum.
Yeah, that seems so weird? Maybe I have to donate every single item and complete all wings of the museum? Maybe somebody could take a poll, what would the shop across from The Roost be, if Nintendo ever fixes that in a software update? Would it be a burger joint, an ice cream shop, what else does the island need as a standard store and not just a themed house? And why is Blathers just standing there in the foyer? They could not give him a chair, a counter, or even a table or desk? We find those most everywhere in the game, except that Blathers got shortchanged. And considering just how huge that the museum is, Blathers must have some really nice living quarters, hidden in there somewhere? Yet there is not even a "door to nowhere" like in The Able Sisters, the "stairway to nowhere" in Nook's Cranny, or the door at the rear of Resident Services. Does Blathers live in a hidden panic room? Or does he actually not have any living quarters, he just stands there 24-7? Creepy much? Is there not even a restroom in the museum? There is a coffee shop, yet no restroom? How does that make any sense? (And I do not even like coffee. Bitter much? Looks like a cup of muddy water. 200 bells would be about $20, making even Starbucks seem cheap in comparison. Why can't Brewster make me a nice hot chocolate with extra mint?) I guess everybody must have to go outdoors to one of several bathhouses that I built at various places on the island?
The game was delayed in 2019 when it was announced at E3 as they wanted to make it the best it could be. Then we all know what happened... that definitely effected the final months of development. Maybe they just couldn't add things they wanted to. I wonder if that's why we got all those free content updates?
Love the DODO Airlines! My Peninsula is used for a lighthouse! I really do wonder if they had more plans...and will any of them be carried over to the next main game!

Regarding Dodo Airlines and possibly unfinished plans, their delivery service....they offer it only on Harv's Island. Why? It's kind of pointless there, especially with Tortimer providing access to our storage. This service would be more useful on island tours and perhaps was going to be a thing at some point?
Makes no sense how they abandoned updating ACNH.. it was the best selling game & would’ve had more players enjoying the game for years if they updated it more. Ac should be a live service game/updated monthly for years throughout the consoles relevancy
One feature that would be cool to add to the game, would be actual working security camera monitors. Maybe we could place the security camera models wherever we want on the island. At the risk of making the game seem a bit like _Half-Life._ A lot going on the island. Bugs flying around, villagers goofing around on the plaza in front of Resident Services. Imagine a "security room" in one of the house rooms, and you look at one camera, and there is Redd at the hidden beach. You see a couple of villagers running around on the plaza. Another camera you see Wisp lurking around at night. I do have the security cameras Accent wall in one of my houses, but it is just a mock-up of nothing much real.
I honestly wished the trolley area in dodo airlines was used for Pelly and Phyllis it might be a minor change but I always loved to send mail and greet either Pelly or Phyllis in the older games. Also a lot of the npc's on Harvey's island get forgotten which is honestly quite sad since these are some legacy characters. Wish they could use them more on your main island.

So much that I put a castle facade around the outside, so that the building could look a bit bigger and more impressive outside to match. I would love if it had even more places to explore or get lost inside of. The _Portal_ games exist inside of massive abandoned salt cave mines, so huge that it is creepy. When Wisp can not be found upon the island, I think that she is well, *not upon the island.* After all, there is other islands existing in the ACNH lore. There is all those other people's islands that your bored villagers keep packing up and moving to.
I like your thinking on these. Very plausible. It would have been so cool to be able to play minigames from the airport like you suggested! I had never thought about the peninsula possibly having another purpose. Very interesting... 🤔
4:17 I feel like trying to expand Nook's Cranny within the space while still keeping enough room for the dropoff box would be a hassle for Nintendo to do. Their only other option is to add a second floor and designing the exterior for that is a hassle of a similar size.
They can make Nook's Cranny look even bigger, within the same exact footprint. I can see why they use that trick, as customizing your island would be such a pain, if upgrades required redesign to fit. And they can do it, with or without adding a 2nd floor. A 2nd floor would be nice anyway. Some major stores have more than one floor. There could even be a Travel Agency upstairs, where you could select a secondary island to expand to. I would really like to add an elevator, even if it was just a facade.
I don’t know what plans Nintendo could have in store for the Animal Crossing series in the future but based on what I’m hearing, I don’t think they’ll be adding any more free content updates. It’s hard to say what they’re gonna do with those scrapped ideas they likely had. Lots of people are speculating a new AC game on the Switch’s successor but imo it feels a little too soon??
I dislike the idea of knowing what ACNH could have been since when you're totally finished like I am there's not much to do now. Unless you buy a whole nother console just to replay it all over again....there are hardly any mini games, the game does lag or freeze when players are there, there's not much to do, there are more upgrades they could've done but didn't, and it just feels like they could've utalized a lot more of the items so players can use them rather than just decorative it's a shame of what could have been. there's a lot of potential but I guess every game has to have or feel ended so that way they can one day make another to it and I hope the next one has far more than even this one does.
Peninsula I don't think it was planned for anything at all. Just a cute addition perhaps. I only played New Leaf for a short time, but I miss the mini games. And you can fish off the north side of the island when you have fish bait.

i agree with the shop theory, i find it hard to believe NH’s shop was the only in the series to have just one planned upgrade :( i loved the big shops

villagers do call for you whenever they want your attention, and the megaphone couldn't be used as the Switch doesn't have an internal microphone.
The MP island is all I really need tbh

I put my lighthouse in my huge amusement park. But I then later customized it, and relocated it to the peninsula.
