    You have walked it so you are in a position to comment on what you believe is the right kit, whether you carry or get your rucksack moved on is a total irrelevance, I always carry my rucksack, but that does not detract from my total respect for you walking The Camino.

Just to say again what a pleasure and wonderful journey it was to follow your pilgrimage, thank you so much for sharing and putting in all the time and effort to edit the vlogs. ❤
    Small typo I noticed if you don’t mind me correcting, the shoe brand for wide feet is Altra. 😊 I love mine and yes will definitely be wearing them on the trail, but I loved the idea of hiking sandals too!

    Hi, thank you so much for sharing! I followed your journey and loved your genuine spirit the whole time! I wonder if you could share a little about the wool shirts that you brought? • @vanhallaadventures
      @vanhallaadventures  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      great question! While the long sleeve wool shirt was great for warmth and was more of a thermal layer but I have several shirts from Icebreaker that are for various types of weather. They have ones that are more for Summer and ones more for winter weather. I think this was the one I wore though It may be the cool lite - either one would work well. A bit pricey but they last A LONG time. amzn.to/3DIAqJC & amzn.to/3x3FBjn
      If you are in he USA you can purchase icebreaker from REI and try the item and if you do not like I you can take it back for a full refund.
      Does that help?

    Another great video. I’m wondering if you had any issues with bedbugs? I know you stayed in private rooms. Also, you put vasoline on your feet (to reduce friction I assume?). That makes so much sense! Did you put it on in the morning before heading out or part way through the walk?

    We've probably met, I was on the Camino with my Mountainbike at the same time as you 😊. Let me give a little tipp: instead of shampoo buy these hard shampoo soaps, they have much less weight (65g instead of the 250ml bottle) and cannot spill out into your bagpack. And you can use them for hair, body and to wadh your clothes.

    I walked from Bilbao to Santiago de compostela and was grateful that I just once had to use a green bathroom for number 1😢.... I barried the little paper towel, but I will take a "dog poo" bag this time. It's a good idea!!!

Sometimes its just called a sleeping bag liner. Many aubergues supply sheets but don't count on it always.

      The private albergues do, but the council-owned ones don't. Last summer, I booked into an albergue in Castrojeriz, but stumbled on a 'donativo' 5 kms short of my destination. I was greeted by the albergues 20th anniversary party. Free wine, free paella, free cake. Bowled over by this limitless generosity I decided to forfeit my money (15 euros) in the Castrojeriz albergue. Having already put 3 euros in the tin, and thinking of moving on, I was so amazed by generosity, I put another 5 euros in the tin and opted to stay, the albergue being a 12th Century Templar monastery in San Antón. My best Camino experience this far!

    Hi! Quick question about the sleeping bag -- did you bring something else instead, like a sheet or liner?

    • @vanhallaadventures
      @vanhallaadventures  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes a liner but I only used it once. Totally unnecessary with private rooms though in dorms I would’ve used it daily. Thanks for watching ✌🏻

      Hi. I haven't done the camino, but for my local hikes I bring a lightweight, quick dry microfiber towel. The size is smaller than the regular bath towels. If you have a Decathlon nearby, they sell it.

    I can’t take this list seriously knowing that you had bags sent ahead to each hotel. To me that isn’t really backpacking.

    • @vanhallaadventures
      @vanhallaadventures  ปีที่แล้ว +27

      I will offer you this…the Camino isn’t a backpacking trek. It’s a pilgrimage and about half the people send their bags ahead. There is no right way to do the camino. If I hadn’t sent my bag ahead, you wouldn’t be watching these videos. Blessed be and buen Camino!

    • @moongodess639
      @moongodess639 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      🤷🏻‍♀️ the camino isnt really a “backpacking” experience as when one does the appalachian or the pacific crest trail.. the camino as in what the name implies in spanish is simply that. A walk. A pilgrimage and its about the journey getting there.. granted when i did it i only took a small 10lb backpack and shipped my other bag to santiago because i was going to egypt afterwards. Also i ended up bussing to some towns.

    • @moongodess639

      If I had to pack and literally carry all of on my back, I would not be able to do the Camino with my physical limitations. I believe early pilgrims used mules to pack things if they had them. Thank you for your packing tips and items you found useful.

    • @Quiltify
      @Quiltify ปีที่แล้ว +3

      For those who want to be allegedly “authentic” then one would need to get rid of their backpack and other high tech items and walk like the poorer pilgrims with not much at all. Ignore the negative people. Thank you, Crystal, for this wonderful series and sharing your growth with all of us. I can’t wait for mine in May! Buen Camino!

  • @michaelbird3887
    @michaelbird3887 ปีที่แล้ว

    Everyone who walks the Camino seems to complete with the conviction that nobody else will ever be able to do it without their advice....Trial and error is part of the experience and 99% of it is common sense. A comfortable backpack? A water container? Give us a break. Every auberge in the early stages has a swap table in it and walking poles are the most abandoned item ....and so on. Ignore this crap and work it out for yourself. Most of us would ensure the shoes are comfortable....OK, you walked it, so did I, now please give us a break......

    • @Joyride37
      @Joyride37 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If the list isn’t for you, then it’s not for you. It could be helpful for someone else who’s planning the trip and comparing different advice lists to see what’s suitable for them.
