Great review - Thank you, I think your delivery style is spot on just like we used to get in the military - simple, concise and to the point with no flannel and just the right amount of humour. Brilliant how you dealt with the bum bag - solved! Keep it up and I look forward to your other videos!
AS a completely blind person with a conductive hearing issue, I have to use these kinds of headphones in order to actually hear a stereo mix. I love the Trekz air, and now I am truly excited for these. I can brave the icy waters of A lake or reservoir without worrying about damaging these. I absolutely love braving open waters. The feeling of swimming and not being able to touch land is exhilarating. For years, I was not able to swim because I had holes in my ear drums because the tubes had fallen out. In 2015 I had surgery where graphs were put in to close up the holes. I re learned how to swim at a friends reservoir. I will never swim in any place other than an open body of water. It gives me a freedom unlike any other. These will also be great for when I am around horses.
@@TheChosenOne2023 I typed this out on my computer using the standard typing method. Voiceover, apples built-in screen reader, reads everything on the screen out loud for people who cannot see.
Just remembered why I bought these and wanted to thank you. I freaking love them. Oh, like you mentioned, the magnetic charging cable is worth the upgrade. Thank you!
The sound leakage doesn't appear so bad when they're actually on you. Most of the sound seems to go where it is supposed to - in you (with the older Titanium model). Great review!
It's interesting that you mention sound leakage. I wear these in an office environment and when I ask my coworkers if they can hear what I am playing, they say they can't. And this is with the Aftershokz Airs. I even asked someone to stand next to me and they could only hear it if I cranked the volume past 70-80% volume. Having them playing on a table is not a good test for sound leakage
Very helpful, thanks! Got turned onto the Titaniums by a backpacking TH-camr. The newer Aeropex is presumably more to my liking for backpacking. Great to be hear snakes, grizzlies, rockslides, trains, irate fellow backpackers, fairies and gnomes while still enjoying music! Leakage not an issue for that.
Great review. I'm not concerned about the sound leakage, myself. People at the gym are going to be doing noisy stuff, and/or listening to their own music. They probably won't even notice this. I won't be wearing them to the library.
Thank you for the review. It helps me to want to buy one now. I'm an Uber driver and this would help me with still being able to hear my customers speak while getting direction on where to go.
I am thoroughly enjoying my aeropex & my friend is loving their opencomms . They sound greats & even better if you chose to plug your ears . The calls on both have been crystal clear . I cant hype these enough .
Really enjoyed your review, Mark. You have a nice way of getting to the point quickly. Your sense of humor is refreshing, as well. The only suggestion I can make is a better camera would do wonders for your content. Not sure what you are using, but an upgrade would go a long way. Great work!
Sound leakage only applies when they are being worn. Obviously if they aren't on your head, the sound waves aren't being absorbed by anything so the sound will travel. Having them turned on but not on a head isn't a fair example of their sound leakage.
I'm curious. Are you giving the sound leakage a fair take? I can hear my trekz air if I take it out but when I have it on, my lady doesn't notice I have anything playing. It's when I turn the volume up is when she starts to hear something. So maybe that's what Aftershokz meant by improved sound [de]leakage. When the headphones are worn, I suppose you head, hair, and body dampen the sound. This, of course has no affect when you test them not worn.
These headphones are fixed to my head when I'm not asleep. I love them. Huge improvement over the Air. I can't go back to normal ear buds. Feels weird sticking something in my ear now. My only issue with them is when there's too much environmental noise and I'm taking a call. I carry one earplug for that situation.
I just got these today, Having owned and Loved the Airs for just over a year. I'm really trying to like them more than the Airs but I can't. The sound quality, the thing that you and many others say is better, just not doing it for me. The airs sound fuller, larger, I guess because of the larger transducers. I have no eyesight so I might be overanalysing the sound quality a bit but the Aeropex just sound hollow and empty to me, maybe a tad crisper on the high bands. Also, if I tap the ear pieces, they rattle, ever so slightly which I find odd. I really wanted to like these and replace my Airs but I just can't.
Hiya, i purchased these on the back of a really good review off you. I’m gonna also put this in for any one who has perforated an ear drum, because none conducting headphones like these are mega! ..Aftershokz Aeropex. Do you suffer with ear conditions, such as a perforated ear drum? Does the condition worsen when you place ear phones directly into the ear? If so read on. A couple of years ago I picked up a cold, a particularly bad one. Long story short it left a permanent condition with one ear, I had initially perforated an ear drum , it was hugely inconvenient as I was a active musician with a love for music. My hearing got better, but the ear affected over the course of a couple of years would intermittently flair up. If water got in the ear from the shower, for days I would suffer , it was patently still not right. Worse still even when I attempted to exercise Ordinary headphones would make my ear painstakingly irritable. Also on reflection i decided it wasn’t particularly healthy to essentially clamp headphones into the ear entrance. I debated about getting Aftershokz, but after watching a review online it seemed more and more that these type of headphones had by passed other production models, it seems also these have by passed other prior Aftershockz to. For me it’s a life changer, I have worn them for just two days and they are great. People have complained online about the volume, but i can state that I did notice that but in truth the volume was so loud last night that I had to turn them down to purchase my groceries and talk to the sales assistant. They are light, comfortable and on both my Sony phone and my iPad they have found connection very quickly. I would say that they are best for the spoken word, but equally I have thoroughly enjoyed music through them. There is a small degree of punch lost, but the pluses for me personally have been great. Essentially pain free listening. I figured that if I am going to use studio monitor headphones when I am making music then I can even handle them abit better, because there’s no irritation from previous episodes with over heated ears with buds crammed into your ears. There is one thing I would love to work out however , I have a Yamaha THRII guitar amp that’s cordless, I have not sussed how to pair these collectively. Any suggestions welcome?

Great review, thanks mate. One thing though, sound leakage will be different when they're on your head as it will absorb some of the sound and dampen it to an external observer. Do you have any equipment to measure noise?
Great review thank you! I tried both in a shop. They are vibrating quite a bit at high volume. Especially the previous model. They are too expensive for what they really are.
Hi Mark, which Aeropex headphones are those exactly? Just browsed the aeropex website, they have a few different models and I am not sure which ones are best.... Thanks!!
Really good review. I've been thinking about upgrading my Airs. For the Air, I find the biggest issue is wind noise for the other party when taking a call. Impossible on the bike. Walking or running, it depends on the wind direction. How did you find the microphone does on the Aeropex in that regard?
Thanks for the review. I'm convinced. Though it's a shame you didn't get someone to compare sound leakage whilst you wore the two, to see if there was a difference when on your head. Free air radiation is not leakage, it is only leakage when you are wearing it. A silent room at home is a very severe test compared to most public spaces. If the person next to you at the gym is wearing conventional in-ear earphones they won't notice leakage anyway.
How is a proprietary charger considered an improvement? USBC would have been useful but I won't have any way to charge these things if I am away. Now I have to remember a charger for these too? B******* it sucks.
Thanks for this informative review, you spoke about exactly what I wanted to know before buying. Just one question: do you think they are loud enough to be able to hear podcasts or tv in a fairly noisy gym with music in the background (the music isn't too loud)?
I found these at Best Buy sans running pack, but with a second charging cable. Now I can keep one at the office and one at home. Nice. This is my first bone conductive headset and I think it's pretty slick. Walking the park is going to be a bit more pleasant, especially when fellow walkers want to chat. :D
The sound leaks when they are off the head, your head muffles the majority of the sound. I sit next to six people in an office setting that use them and we get no leaks.
Hi, thank you for the review. Just one question, where did you found the information about 15min quick charge? I cannot see anything on the webpage of Aftershokz, just 2 hours for charging.
Who cares about the gym. Most of the time you hear ego lifters moaning. I used my aeropex on the bus at 80% volume and at work at 30-40% and still people don't hear a thing. Its perfect for jog/run, saved me a few times from accidents.
Where did you end up ordering your Aeropex from? I only see Amazon UK selling them. Curious to see if the other colors aside from Black were available for purchase. Thanks in advance!
They said Titanium won't break in a soft pouch. I fell over on my backpack and cracked them. Never carry any headphones in a soft or "hard" case. Just proper stiff maybe 3D printed case. I think I would design such case for these headphones anyway if I won't find any other compact box.
Hi Mark, unfortunately I believe that sound leakage for these headphones don't work like that. The sound is traveling straight into the air and not through your head. The actual sound leakage would most probably be caused (don't quote me on this, I'm not an engineer) by the vibrations that don't go through your head. You will have to test it out (against the Air model) while wearing it. Either by getting a second opinion or by holding your lav mic at various distances from the headphones. I would wager that, since there's lesser tickling, there would be less sound leakage. I hope someone with more talent in physics can help me explain better. But anyway, great video! Love it when content creators keep it real.
I have the Airs, and no one seems to be able to hear them when they’re actually on my head. I think the transducers are just vibrating the air when you take them off.
You must have been using a bad set of Airs. At 3/4 volume, my wife can’t hear my Airs and I rarely have read reviews where people complain about the sound leakage. If I take them off of my head with them playing, sure, I can definitely hear some sound, but once they are on my skull, it’s very difficult to hear sound coming from the headphones.
@@MarkLewisfitness thank you, ignoring the bone conduction and other fancy features, how much do you think earphones with a similar sound quality would be worth?
