Dean's character was assassinated after season 1 to make Jess seem like an appealing prospect. Original Dean from Chicago who reads books Rory hasn't and has the knowledge and skill to rebuild a car will always be my favorite. Done with both Rory and Dean completely after Raincoats and Recipes.
THIS. I understand disliking him especially in season 4 but I definitely agree that his character was changed to make Jess appealing which happened when Tristin character left. I believe the original take of his character or the original "rory love interests" trope of guys which she had to choose was Dean "the tall good guy first bf from Chicago who makes you feel safe" VS Tristin "the rich trust fund gorgeous a-hole whose more complex than he looks". Dean was then changed to "Safe but boring Jock first boyfriend" lol
I can never fully hate Emily or Richard; they’re just such good, complex characters. The most I hated Emily was when she split up Lorelai and Luke cuz that was AWFUL. The only time I wasn’t fond of Richard was when he made Rory do an impromptu Yale interview, yet I still didn’t hate him then. Either way, I love them so much
fully agree!!! I loved them, they were irritatingly rich at times but I really liked Emily's dynamic with Lorelai and Richard's with Rory. The impromptu Yale thing ticked me off but I also can't say I'm surprised by it.
As someone who is named after the main character Lorelai…. I have to say I love both. But seriously Lorelai has the humour, she carries 90% of the show
I was so pissed when Dean pressured Rory to say she loved him back before she was ready and then proceeded to break up with her while she was still working out what she felt

I didnt like dean. He was to controlling, angry jealous and had this dominant presence. I do wish this show had more magic in the show but over all i loved it.
Why should he waste his time with a woman who doesn't know how she feels? Especially if there are a bunch of fangirls who know exactly how they feel. If a woman can't figure out how she feels about me then I would leave for a woman who knows what she wants. Life is too short to be strung along.
The show was one of the best shows ever made for women young and old, 4 generations of Gilmore Girls. The humour between Lorelei ( Richard’s mother) and Emily is fantastic, witty and realistic. The dynamics between Lorelei and Roary are on key with all 4 generations of the ladies is truly remarkable! I’ve never seen a series like this before and believe it will continue to move generations of women forward for a long time to come. ❤all these women for their unique flaws and characters so much. It will always have it’s place in our hearts.

lorelai is literally a hero to me. the amount of crap she takes while maintaining her composure and showing compassion to her parents where they show her none is remarkable, and i can only hope to be like that myself someday.
I loved that logan also straight up told her she is not "better" or more middle class than he is. Everyone treated her like she didn't have connections and money behind her except for him.
I don't get the love for them as a couple. You know if they were a couple in real life, Logan would be cheating like crazy. Also, the fact that they were still messing around years later (which was stupid btw) while Logan was engaged was just gross.
Dean was actually not too bad before Jess happened. Guys hear me out, I'm not saying he was perfect, but neither was Rory. He only got mad at her when he thought she didn't want to be with him. It's kinda justifiable. And yes, he was too needy for her, but his intentions were good and season 1 Dean was better than Jess in my opinion. Also him being boring doesn't mean he was bad. However, in the later seasons Dean was 100% trash.
I imagine it would be crazy-making to have your girlfriend lie to your face about not being interested in another guy while she is secretly going on ice cream runs, totaling the car you built for her, and kissing said guy.
No he always yelled at rory for having to do homework and prioritizing school instead of hang out with him and he yells at her then broke up with her for not being ready to say i love you. Hes 6’4 always yelling at a small girl wtf

The older I get the more I actually like and understand Lorelei. When I was younger I thought she was just the best mom and as I get older I see her flaws, immaturity, etc. love her more for it
Gilmore Girls was amazing and ahead of its time. I loved that we saw what it was like for a teen mother from a upper class family who was basically rejected because it didn't look good for their social circle (mainly Emily's problem!) It was a teen drama with a majority cast of older characters, something that was quite different from other teen shows at the time and till this day. I'm 44 now and fondly remember the complex characters/interactions and HOT guys Rory had as love interests!😉😏😘 It's a show that doesn't age because the whole concept was fantastically created by Amy and the show nosedived once she and her husband left the show/network over pay/work dispute. There was some problematic aspects of the show, token black gay guy Micheal with the fake over the top fake french accent, Lane Kim as the token asian side kick to 'Rory's world' and then trying to make her and her eventual hubby be the; John Lennon/Yoko Ono of the show...🤦🏽♀️etc etc.

Actually I saw quite a lot of Team Dean Justifying him cheating on his wife and blaming everything on Rory. I think most of them are attracted to the actor so they’ll excuse every 🚩🚩for eye candy
Idk if this is unpopular but…Rory wasn’t great to Dean at all. All he wanted was to be involved in his girlfriend’s life and for her to tell him things. And he was in her life, for the most part. She started lying to him instead of telling him the truth. And in Rory’s defense, Dean did seem to get mad, but she still should have reassured him that nothing was what he could have assumed it to be. Like that one episode in season 2 or 3 where Jess drops food off while Paris is studying with Rory, she could have told Dean over the phone that Paris was over studying and Jess had just dropped off food but was hungry, so they insisted he stay and right now he’s arguing with Paris. I think if they had better communication they would have lasted longer and had a healthier relationship.
I do kind of think that it’s the perfect representation of a first relationship for a lot of people, maybe not always in such an extreme way but they both made mistakes through love and tried to navigate their feelings which didn’t always come across the best, but it was messy and a first love!🥰
I love Lorelei, she is so funny. Jess was the best out of the 3 boys because he knew Rory (and himself) the best. Logan has no sparks to him, Dean makes me want to hurl.

Jess kinda helped Rory get back on track when she was with Logan and didn't go to Yale anymore and everything was messed up. I remember Jess saying like this isn't you and he was right. Rory has always and will always love learning, studying and reading books. I feel like at the end Jess was just too good for Rory...
She is so problematic, anoying, privileged and ungrateful because she gets babied so much. Like mostly in early seasons everyone is like "Rory is so perfect blah blah blah" so later when she started to mess up she still believed she was perfect

People forget how he gave her a nice place to live, how he always supported her career, how he left everything just to be by her side when Richard was in the hospital, how he let her take her own chances and choose what she wanted to do. Team Jess people are too focused on Milo's muscles and don't realize that Rory has been in love with Logan for a decade and she only see Jess as a friend and almost cousin. agree with all except for the Logan one, his parents being rich asf and the fact that he was given everything he want didn't help much to develop his person, he was less of an asshole that another person would've been under that life conditions
I was team Dean for so long and had lindsey(I think?) not been in the picture I would’ve wanted Rory with dean. HOWEVER that episode was truly the end of my love for both characters. Rory CANNOT and will not own up to her mistakes. She’s constantly in denial about her wrongdoings. Dean was an ahole and he would’ve never helped her succeed in life. But I was literally ever team Jess.
Honestly it reminded me of all the times Lorelei skipped out/ cheated on someone. I think that’s part of the reason why Rory didn’t own up to her own cheating. There’s even a joke I think I’m the revival about how she was cheating on her boyfriend(?) at the time.

I understand team Logan, but i don’t think he was right for rory. I don’t think he pushed her to be better. 3. I love richard and emily. They are very complex characters, with faults and values, and i think there relationship with lorelai could’ve been bettered on both ends. 4. Rory. Ik this wasnt in the vid but imma still share my opinion lol. I think rory does not deserve as much hate as she gets. She was not perfect, esp in the later seasons, but i think that small mistakes that she made had a large impact on her, and that those combined with the tension in her and lorelai’s relationship caused her to go in a spiral when mitchum told her that she would never be able to do the one thing she’s always wanted to do. She needed someone like Jess who was willing to push her to better herself. When he yelled at her, it really stuck with her, unlike the one time lorelai told her how she felt about it. An about her relationship issues, she grew up with her mom going from guy to guy without her father ever around. Her first relationship ended abruptly because she was afraid to say I love you, and he blew up at her. Dean was constantly angry, and very controlling even before jess got there. Rory did not treat dean very well when jess got there but it’s understandable because she was in denial about jess. Until she kissed him ofc. I think she was confused and didn’t know how to handle it. Not right, but understandable. And people like to completely blame rory for sleeping with dean, but he was majorly at fault too. He manipulated her mind into believing things were over between him and lindsay. Then he went home and attacked his wife for it. Rory made mistakes here too, but I don’t think it was much of her fault.

I love Richard and Rory’s relationship. He definitely had moments where I didn’t like him but for the most part I loved how they interacted with just the two of them. I didn’t like Emily that much though. She had a couple of moments that I love but for the most part I didn’t like her character
I AM WITH YOU. the fan base gives so much space for the men to learn lessons but not as much to the women. I think it’s pretty reflective to see that. Also Dean is an absolute menace. The way he treated Rory and other woman in his life was so icky and toxic
He was a great character, they character assassinated him and it was obvious they were getting rid of him - he went from being a great character to bein totally out of the sweet and insightful character they were building in the beginning. the rest of her boyfriends were straight out a-holes and that's why
@@hanamarcetic5923 Was he ever really a great character though? Even in the early episodes he showed signs of being very controlling - even with his ideas surrounding gender binaries. Dean highly valued a woman who would stay at home and cook, putting a lot of pressure on Rory (whether he meant to or not) so that Rory threw away her own values to make his favourite meal and dress up like a 1950s housewife. His reaction sealed the deal that secretly, he held one shallow perception of a woman's role. His character showed flaws from the get go. He was also never kind to Lane in the beginning episodes, and was straight up disrespectful to Lorelei when she showed concern over her young daughter dating.
What's your opinion on Rory? I feel like her character took a huge turn and she turned into someone completely different and unrelatable. In the earlier seasons she seemed to really care about people and herself and then she grows into someone who has no regard for others feelings and lives on impulses. And the show seems to paint it as a good thing and she is just being free and finding herself, when it's actually irresponsibility and not caring about others.

I go back and forth on this. In some ways, I feel like she did become a spoiled rich kid, but it is pretty common for gifted kids to fall pretty hard when they're no longer bound by the structure of school. It's relatable, and I think it's supposed to mirror Lorelai.

In some ways I completely understand shutting off when having a low blow from someone like Mitchum but then In the reunion I was just sooo disappointed with her character! Definitely Logan. I don't understand why Jess is favored. I mean, yeah him and Rory both liked books but that's about all. He was too moody. I didn't mind Dean in the beginning but didn't care for him later. Logan was a good guy who brought out Rory's adventurous side. He had the best personality and I think others would've preferred him as well if he hadn't been rich.
In my opinion I loved Rory and Logan together so when she said no to getting married I was so upset, especially for her to go back to him in a year in a life when he is engaged to someone else.
I think Lorelai's incredible. One of my all-time favourite TV characters. Richard & Emily are insufferable - I would lose my mind if I had parents like that. As for Rory's boyfriends, the only true gem is Older Jess, but unfortunately it was too little, too late: the sexual harassment was unforgivable.
I love Lorelai! I feel like Tristan could have been the guy Rory ended up with. He had all the qualities of the other guys... he was a "bad boy" like Jess, rich like Logan, and underneath it all, had a good boy persona like Dean...
I loved Lorelai as a kid, and found Rory annoying (still do), but when I watched a few episodes in my early 20s I just felt bad for Rory, because her Mom's immaturity meant in many ways they were raising each other and it was sad to see a child put in that position no matter how much they love that parent. I loved Jess as a kid, but as an adult realize they're all problematic (always hated Logan though 🤢).
The thing about Gilmore girls I found annoying was how the towns people seem to worship Lorelai and Rory. i get the show was centered around them. But no town would ever act that way towards 2 people like that. Like Rorys graduation for instance where they did a reenactment for the whole town.. like give me a break. Never would happen in real life.. it was too much. and at times I found Lorelai could be really annoying.
I though like that too but sometimes I wonder if all that was because they were adopted by the community. a 16yo runaway girl with a baby with no dad, no house, no money, that was giving 100% to make it work melted their hearts. I bet most of the time, while rory was growing up, she would stay with people while lorelai was working / studying and they felt like THEY were their real family. It's a very small town. I started thinking like that bc my cousing grew up only with her mom, her dad was out of the picture for a long time bc of alcohol issues and she was adopted by the whole church + mother side of the family + neighbours. She was very cute and needy, very pure and everybody loved her so much. When she grow up, she made some mistakes and some wrongs sometimes and the treatment she would get was COMPLETELY different from the one I received, in the same situation and same age. Even on church, ppl would forgive her wrongs and give her way lighter punishments that I would receive on the same mistake. Unlike Rory she was very thankful to all the love and support, now she is a great woman now and is still adored by everyone around her.
I think it’s hard to see these shows with todays lenses. When I watched this show I was young so I couldn’t point out some of the problems but now when you go back and watch some episodes it’s like oh no… lol but I still like that moment in time.

Lorelai was the heart and soul of the show. She wasn’t perfect because she was human, and unlike Rory who had it in her head that she is perfect, she needed everything she wanted handed to her. It’s why in AYITL she was such a failure. She could never take criticism and blamed everyone but herself for her not getting things. Lorelai worked her ass to get to where she is which is why she is successful.
The thing with Emily and Richard is they're bad parents who consistently gang up on their daughter and make her feel bad, but they are really, really good grandparents. They're complex characters and it's hard to feel either positive or negative about them at any given time, it depends on how they are in that moment.

Dean is just the first love. My ex was my first really serious relationship and we were together over a year when I was 17-18. Especially the further detached I am from it I realize how awful it was, but I still have fond memories of that time in my life, the firsts and generally the way I felt in the moment. It's easy to overlook the bad, especially since it got worse toward the end and you can just remember the whole chunk of "good times".
Jess honestly makes a lot of sense with her…even when they’re younger. He’s literally a male version of her but with a rougher upbringing. And she tried to turn him into something he wasnt(mainly dean) she knew who he was going in to the relationship and tried to change him. If she had wanted to they could have made things work. And even when they’re older and both adults…there’s love there for her, but she’s not open to anything other than of course what she can’t have. She’s turned into her mother with Christopher all over. It’ll never be right for her and Logan because when it was right for them she turned him down because instead of growing together she thought of them as separate lives…not two lives becoming one and working to achieve BOTH goals….but then gets upset as an adult when she has nothing to show for her life except a baby that she didn’t mean to get pregnant with, from a guy that she can’t have…that doesn’t want more then casual sex from her because they have history and it’s easy.
Lorelei is easily one of my favorite t.v. characters ever. She’s so complex and I just relate to her fast talking, wittiness. The older I’ve gotten the more I understand Emily and sometimes Richard. Ofc they had their horrible moments but they are so amazingly complex and Emily and Lorelei are a lot alike. Especially Emily’s character arc in the revival? *Chef’s Kiss*
I agree with most of what you said here. I’ve been a fan of the show since it first aired and a habitual re watcher of the show since, had it taped on vhs then as the dvds came I bought those, and I love both Lorelei and Rory, that’s not to say I don’t recognize their flaws, but that was the point of the show. It wasn’t a show about perfect people, it was a show about interpersonal dynamics with family and friends and how you’re raised affects you. I love dean in the beginning but as the show goes on, he really starts irritating me. I don’t like how he is always saying how Rory broke up with him, when she did not, in fact ever break up with him. All three times he broke up with her. Now the second time was understandable she should have been the one to do it that time. The first, while unfair was also understandable because he’s a young guy who just said I love you for the first time and felt vulnerable when she didn’t say it back. I didn’t like Jess in the beginning but as the show went on and he grew up and healed himself from his traumatic childhood he became my favorite of the 3. I was never a huge fan of Logan, while he opened Rory up to new experiences he also stunted her and distracted her. I also love Emily and Richard but they frustrate the crap out of me, especially Emily.

Nah lorelai fully understands that she's not perfect but embraces that and tries to do better. I think she's a more realistic and relatable human being than often is portrayed in tv
It totally drives me nuts that the GG fan base can't seem to grasp the concept of an imperfect character. I love characters that make huge mistakes and do things they shouldn't sometimes, that doesn't make them a bad person or character, it makes them realistic and interesting
Rory seasons 1-3? Love her. I am her. But after that? Can’t stand her. And as I watched the show more, Lorelai started to annoy me, but really most people in the show annoy me 😂 they’re supposed to be like real people so obviously they have flaws. Most of the time Lorelai and her parents both have good intentions and can both be in the wrong. But I just can’t hate Lorelai when she’s such a hard worker and so independent… she has so many good qualities.

i love rory and logan's relationship, but his friends weren’t good for her. they were bad influences always sort of congratulating her for dropping out of yale, like it wasn’t going to mess up all her plans. logan i don’t blame because he always believed that she was going back to school. and jess is a KING for telling straight in rory's face that what she was doing was wrong

I feel like Rory had too much pressure on her to be perfect because that’s what everyone viewed her as, and she ended up crumbling because of it. I just think ppl view it as “wrong” for Rory because she seemed so determined her entire life to go to Harvard, and it was disappointing to see her let go of her dreams.

@@lexysvlogs the reason she crumbled is because she never heard anyone say she couldn’t do it. Everyone was always cheering her on. Including the pressure it just was all wrong. And then she has a bf that supports her illegal activitys wich makes her dropping out so much easier.
I loved Jess because of his growth, especially in his relationship with Luke. I loved his struggles and how he was clearly a good person who didn’t always know how to handle responsibility or insecurity. He and Rory changed each other for the better tho, and their chemistry was 🔥🔥 my young heart couldn’t stand it ☺️ I was totally fine when they broke up too, I just wish they had gotten closure ( or had done the deed because F*** Dean). The other two male leads didn’t really grow or fit with Rory as well (I said what I said, Logan stans come at me). I liked Lorelei, I just was a little impatient for her and Luke to get their romantic shit together. Like going back to your Ex? And Again? Woof. Idk maybe that just mirrored my own life too much for me to be very sympathetic 😅 However, I really grew to dislike Rory the longer the show went on. Basically from the moment she and Dean had an affair. Not because of the affair, it’s just that was the first time I noticed how she was often quite selfish and lazy. She skated by on talent and her grandparent’s wealth when a lot of her accomplishments should have gone to Paris (the real MVP of the show).
Yeah Dean was a huge jerk in that episode. His behavior was awful. Rory made a mistake & shared responsibility for her actions too but he definitely took advantage of her vulnerability. Good riddance.
The antihero is having a moment and Dean is the antihero in his cheating spouse era. You can understand that Dean isn’t a monster because he cheated. He made some very major mistakes. That said, he needs to live with the consequences.
Who likes Dean??? Also I think people struggle with Lorelei because a: she is heavily neurodivergent coded and also people who haven’t grown up around money tend to see a lot of un-greatfulness when people leave their families/Lorelei is very bad at checking her privilege
What makes this tv show so great is that we can discuse for hours (and 20 ys later still be talking about it) bc none of the characters are rather GooD or BaD, they are fuck*ng humans, all of them, with the awesome parts and the shitty ones so you can't actually figure out how you feel about it (+ every personality is so well developed!)

My opinions: 1. Lorelai is amazing, other than Luke and a few other side characters she’s my favourite. Rory is the one who I don’t really like. 2. In season one, Dean was the best but like his IQ and manners dropped every episode. Now I’m team Logan. 3. I’ve always loved Richard, Emily is the one I’m in conflict with because I feel so bad for her but the things she does is unbelievable, like the whole intertwining with Lorelais relationship with Luke because he wasn’t rich and she didn’t know his family was insane.
The scene where the girl asks her if it’s raining and Paris goes “no it’s national baptism day, tie your tubes idiot” is the best scene in all of Gilmore girls. Paris is such a mood
The more I watch the show the more I realize how poorly Lorelai and Rory treated Emily and Richard just to run to them everytime they needed something. Of course Emily and Richard are not perfect and made some mistakes (e.g. The way they treated Luke just because he runs a small business) but you can see that they truly love Lorelai and Rory and do everything they can to support them. I've never understood the hostility Lorelai feels towards them.

Seriously people hate Lorelei? I loved her she was my favourite! she was funny, had a very fun vibe and I mostly got her point of view when she was serious, is she absolutely perfect no but she’s great I found. I suppose she’s made mistakes but just because she made mistakes like running away before marrying Max doesn’t mean she’s not a good character, I found her lovable and funny on most other days.
I feel like those of us who got into this show as adults have a different perspective than those who watched it as kids. And while I can understand why some people wouldn’t like Lorelei, I imagine most of them wouldn’t like the show. It confuses me when people who claim to like the show detest her since she’s one of the two main characters.
I love Dean. I think what the creators did to him was awful character regression. He was a book reader smart sweet guy in season 1. Then for Jess to seem better than him they dumbed him down. Also the cheating storyline was weird because first they showed Lindsay being mean to him during the Inn construction constantly. Then probably after fan reaction they made it seem like it wasn’t falling apart and Lindsay was a housewife who waited for him all the time. It just seemed like an excuse to make him look awful even further. I dunno they really didn’t wanna bother with the “both are kids and they got sick of each other like any other teen and understood the early marriage was a mistake” plot and wrote that episode.

The show was one of the best shows ever made for women young and old, 4 generations of Gilmore Girls. The humour between Lorelei ( Richard’s mother) and Emily is fantastic, witty and realistic. The dynamics between Lorelei and Roary are on key with all 4 generations of the ladies is truly remarkable! I’ve never seen a series like this before and believe it will continue to move generations of women forward for a long time to come. ❤all these women for their unique flaws and characters so much. It will always have it’s place in our hearts.

Gilmore Girls was amazing and ahead of its time. I loved that we saw what it was like for a teen mother from a upper class family who was basically rejected because it didn't look good for their social circle (mainly Emily's problem!)
It was a teen drama with a majority cast of older characters, something that was quite different from other teen shows at the time and till this day.
I'm 44 now and fondly remember the complex characters/interactions and HOT guys Rory had as love interests!😉😏😘
It's a show that doesn't age because the whole concept was fantastically created by Amy and the show nosedived once she and her husband left the show/network over pay/work dispute.
There was some problematic aspects of the show, token black gay guy Micheal with the fake over the top fake french accent, Lane Kim as the token asian side kick to 'Rory's world' and then trying to make her and her eventual hubby be the; John Lennon/Yoko Ono of the show...🤦🏽♀️etc etc.

Idk if this is unpopular but…Rory wasn’t great to Dean at all. All he wanted was to be involved in his girlfriend’s life and for her to tell him things. And he was in her life, for the most part. She started lying to him instead of telling him the truth. And in Rory’s defense, Dean did seem to get mad, but she still should have reassured him that nothing was what he could have assumed it to be. Like that one episode in season 2 or 3 where Jess drops food off while Paris is studying with Rory, she could have told Dean over the phone that Paris was over studying and Jess had just dropped off food but was hungry, so they insisted he stay and right now he’s arguing with Paris. I think if they had better communication they would have lasted longer and had a healthier relationship.
I do kind of think that it’s the perfect representation of a first relationship for a lot of people, maybe not always in such an extreme way but they both made mistakes through love and tried to navigate their feelings which didn’t always come across the best, but it was messy and a first love!🥰

She needed someone like Jess who was willing to push her to better herself. When he yelled at her, it really stuck with her, unlike the one time lorelai told her how she felt about it. An about her relationship issues, she grew up with her mom going from guy to guy without her father ever around. Her first relationship ended abruptly because she was afraid to say I love you, and he blew up at her. Dean was constantly angry, and very controlling even before jess got there. Rory did not treat dean very well when jess got there but it’s understandable because she was in denial about jess. Until she kissed him ofc. I think she was confused and didn’t know how to handle it. Not right, but understandable. And people like to completely blame rory for sleeping with dean, but he was majorly at fault too. He manipulated her mind into believing things were over between him and lindsay. Then he went home and attacked his wife for it. Rory made mistakes here too, but I don’t think it was much of her fault.

Dean highly valued a woman who would stay at home and cook, putting a lot of pressure on Rory (whether he meant to or not) so that Rory threw away her own values to make his favourite meal and dress up like a 1950s housewife. His reaction sealed the deal that secretly, he held one shallow perception of a woman's role. His character showed flaws from the get go. He was also never kind to Lane in the beginning episodes, and was straight up disrespectful to Lorelei when she showed concern over her young daughter dating.
What's your opinion on Rory? I feel like her character took a huge turn and she turned into someone completely different and unrelatable. In the earlier seasons she seemed to really care about people and herself and then she grows into someone who has no regard for others feelings and lives on impulses. And the show seems to paint it as a good thing and she is just being free and finding herself, when it's actually irresponsibility and not caring about others.

Definitely Logan. I don't understand why Jess is favored. I mean, yeah him and Rory both liked books but that's about all. He was too moody. I didn't mind Dean in the beginning but didn't care for him later. Logan was a good guy who brought out Rory's adventurous side. He had the best personality and I think others would've preferred him as well if he hadn't been rich.
In my opinion I loved Rory and Logan together so when she said no to getting married I was so upset, especially for her to go back to him in a year in a life when he is engaged to someone else.

I think Lorelai's incredible. One of my all-time favourite TV characters. Richard & Emily are insufferable - I would lose my mind if I had parents like that. As for Rory's boyfriends, the only true gem is Older Jess, but unfortunately it was too little, too late: the sexual harassment was unforgivable.

I loved Lorelai as a kid, and found Rory annoying (still do), but when I watched a few episodes in my early 20s I just felt bad for Rory, because her Mom's immaturity meant in many ways they were raising each other and it was sad to see a child put in that position no matter how much they love that parent. I loved Jess as a kid, but as an adult realize they're all problematic (always hated Logan though 🤢).
The thing about Gilmore girls I found annoying was how the towns people seem to worship Lorelai and Rory. i get the show was centered around them. But no town would ever act that way towards 2 people like that. Like Rorys graduation for instance where they did a reenactment for the whole town.. like give me a break. Never would happen in real life.. it was too much. and at times I found Lorelai could be really annoying.

I though like that too but sometimes I wonder if all that was because they were adopted by the community. a 16yo runaway girl with a baby with no dad, no house, no money, that was giving 100% to make it work melted their hearts. I bet most of the time, while rory was growing up, she would stay with people while lorelai was working / studying and they felt like THEY were their real family. It's a very small town. I started thinking like that bc my cousing grew up only with her mom, her dad was out of the picture for a long time bc of alcohol issues and she was adopted by the whole church + mother side of the family + neighbours. She was very cute and needy, very pure and everybody loved her so much. When she grow up, she made some mistakes and some wrongs sometimes and the treatment she would get was COMPLETELY different from the one I received, in the same situation and same age. Even on church, ppl would forgive her wrongs and give her way lighter punishments that I would receive on the same mistake. Unlike Rory she was very thankful to all the love and support, now she is a great woman now and is still adored by everyone around her.

I think it’s hard to see these shows with todays lenses. When I watched this show I was young so I couldn’t point out some of the problems but now when you go back and watch some episodes it’s like oh no… lol but I still like that moment in time.
Yess!! I watched it as an adult for the first time last year so I think maybe that’s why I have different opinions without that nostalgic attachment!, but I still love them!, faults and all🤣❤️
I may not like Dean's behavior and still like him. He is a teenager with lessons to learn.
Tbf I get this! I think all the characters had problematic write ins (obv some more than others) I enjoyed the grown up versions of them!
Lorelai was the heart and soul of the show. She wasn’t perfect because she was human, and unlike Rory who had it in her head that she is perfect, she needed everything she wanted handed to her. It’s why in AYITL she was such a failure. She could never take criticism and blamed everyone but herself for her not getting things. Lorelai worked her ass to get to where she is which is why she is successful.
The thing with Emily and Richard is they're bad parents who consistently gang up on their daughter and make her feel bad, but they are really, really good grandparents. They're complex characters and it's hard to feel either positive or negative about them at any given time, it depends on how they are in that moment.
Honestly one of mine is Tristan should have been the end game bc they had some chemistry and I feel like if he was in the show longer we could have seen more but he had to leave when he left I cried soooo much
I didn’t like Lorelai in the first couple of seasons cos she seemed so immature compared to Rory. But once Rory got to Yale I just couldn’t stand her but Lorelai became my fav character
I actually kind of liked that dynamic to be honest I found it funny idk🤷♂️
Dean is just the first love. My ex was my first really serious relationship and we were together over a year when I was 17-18. Especially the further detached I am from it I realize how awful it was, but I still have fond memories of that time in my life, the firsts and generally the way I felt in the moment. It's easy to overlook the bad, especially since it got worse toward the end and you can just remember the whole chunk of "good times".

Jess honestly makes a lot of sense with her…even when they’re younger. He’s literally a male version of her but with a rougher upbringing. And she tried to turn him into something he wasnt(mainly dean) she knew who he was going in to the relationship and tried to change him. If she had wanted to they could have made things work. And even when they’re older and both adults…there’s love there for her, but she’s not open to anything other than of course what she can’t have. She’s turned into her mother with Christopher all over. It’ll never be right for her and Logan because when it was right for them she turned him down because instead of growing together she thought of them as separate lives…not two lives becoming one and working to achieve BOTH goals….but then gets upset as an adult when she has nothing to show for her life except a baby that she didn’t mean to get pregnant with, from a guy that she can’t have…that doesn’t want more then casual sex from her because they have history and it’s easy.
Lorelei is easily one of my favorite t.v. characters ever. She’s so complex and I just relate to her fast talking, wittiness.
The older I’ve gotten the more I understand Emily and sometimes Richard. Ofc they had their horrible moments but they are so amazingly complex and Emily and Lorelei are a lot alike. Especially Emily’s character arc in the revival? *Chef’s Kiss*
I loved Dean sm but after he cheated on his wife with Rory feelings changed. I’ll still love the old Dean though🥰

I agree with most of what you said here. I’ve been a fan of the show since it first aired and a habitual re watcher of the show since, had it taped on vhs then as the dvds came I bought those, and I love both Lorelei and Rory, that’s not to say I don’t recognize their flaws, but that was the point of the show. It wasn’t a show about perfect people, it was a show about interpersonal dynamics with family and friends and how you’re raised affects you. I love dean in the beginning but as the show goes on, he really starts irritating me. I don’t like how he is always saying how Rory broke up with him, when she did not, in fact ever break up with him. All three times he broke up with her. Now the second time was understandable she should have been the one to do it that time. The first, while unfair was also understandable because he’s a young guy who just said I love you for the first time and felt vulnerable when she didn’t say it back. I didn’t like Jess in the beginning but as the show went on and he grew up and healed himself from his traumatic childhood he became my favorite of the 3. I was never a huge fan of Logan, while he opened Rory up to new experiences he also stunted her and distracted her. I also love Emily and Richard but they frustrate the crap out of me, especially Emily.

It totally drives me nuts that the GG fan base can't seem to grasp the concept of an imperfect character. I love characters that make huge mistakes and do things they shouldn't sometimes, that doesn't make them a bad person or character, it makes them realistic and interesting

Rory seasons 1-3? Love her. I am her. But after that? Can’t stand her. And as I watched the show more, Lorelai started to annoy me, but really most people in the show annoy me 😂 they’re supposed to be like real people so obviously they have flaws. Most of the time Lorelai and her parents both have good intentions and can both be in the wrong. But I just can’t hate Lorelai when she’s such a hard worker and so independent… she has so many good qualities.

I feel like Rory had too much pressure on her to be perfect because that’s what everyone viewed her as, and she ended up crumbling because of it. I just think ppl view it as “wrong” for Rory because she seemed so determined her entire life to go to Harvard, and it was disappointing to see her let go of her dreams.

@@lexysvlogs the reason she crumbled is because she never heard anyone say she couldn’t do it. Everyone was always cheering her on. Including the pressure it just was all wrong. And then she has a bf that supports her illegal activitys wich makes her dropping out so much easier.
I loved Jess because of his growth, especially in his relationship with Luke. I loved his struggles and how he was clearly a good person who didn’t always know how to handle responsibility or insecurity. He and Rory changed each other for the better tho, and their chemistry was 🔥🔥 my young heart couldn’t stand it ☺️
I was totally fine when they broke up too, I just wish they had gotten closure ( or had done the deed because F*** Dean). The other two male leads didn’t really grow or fit with Rory as well (I said what I said, Logan stans come at me).
I liked Lorelei, I just was a little impatient for her and Luke to get their romantic shit together. Like going back to your Ex? And Again? Woof. Idk maybe that just mirrored my own life too much for me to be very sympathetic 😅
However, I really grew to dislike Rory the longer the show went on. Basically from the moment she and Dean had an affair. Not because of the affair, it’s just that was the first time I noticed how she was often quite selfish and lazy. She skated by on talent and her grandparent’s wealth when a lot of her accomplishments should have gone to Paris (the real MVP of the show).

Yeah Dean was a huge jerk in that episode. His behavior was awful. Rory made a mistake & shared responsibility for her actions too but he definitely took advantage of her vulnerability. Good riddance.

The antihero is having a moment and Dean is the antihero in his cheating spouse era. You can understand that Dean isn’t a monster because he cheated. He made some very major mistakes. That said, he needs to live with the consequences.
Who likes Dean??? Also I think people struggle with Lorelei because a: she is heavily neurodivergent coded and also people who haven’t grown up around money tend to see a lot of un-greatfulness when people leave their families/Lorelei is very bad at checking her privilege

My opinions:
1. Lorelai is amazing, other than Luke and a few other side characters she’s my favourite. Rory is the one who I don’t really like.
2. In season one, Dean was the best but like his IQ and manners dropped every episode. Now I’m team Logan.
3. I’ve always loved Richard, Emily is the one I’m in conflict with because I feel so bad for her but the things she does is unbelievable, like the whole intertwining with Lorelais relationship with Luke because he wasn’t rich and she didn’t know his family was insane.
i don’t get the rory and lorelai hatred. ues they have their awful moments, but girl, they ARE the show.

The more I watch the show the more I realize how poorly Lorelai and Rory treated Emily and Richard just to run to them everytime they needed something. Of course Emily and Richard are not perfect and made some mistakes (e.g. The way they treated Luke just because he runs a small business) but you can see that they truly love Lorelai and Rory and do everything they can to support them. I've never understood the hostility Lorelai feels towards them.

Seriously people hate Lorelei? I loved her she was my favourite! she was funny, had a very fun vibe and I mostly got her point of view when she was serious, is she absolutely perfect no but she’s great I found. I suppose she’s made mistakes but just because she made mistakes like running away before marrying Max doesn’t mean she’s not a good character, I found her lovable and funny on most other days.

I feel like those of us who got into this show as adults have a different perspective than those who watched it as kids. And while I can understand why some people wouldn’t like Lorelei, I imagine most of them wouldn’t like the show. It confuses me when people who claim to like the show detest her since she’s one of the two main characters.
I love Dean. I think what the creators did to him was awful character regression. He was a book reader smart sweet guy in season 1. Then for Jess to seem better than him they dumbed him down. Also the cheating storyline was weird because first they showed Lindsay being mean to him during the Inn construction constantly. Then probably after fan reaction they made it seem like it wasn’t falling apart and Lindsay was a housewife who waited for him all the time. It just seemed like an excuse to make him look awful even further. I dunno they really didn’t wanna bother with the “both are kids and they got sick of each other like any other teen and understood the early marriage was a mistake” plot and wrote that episode.
