  • Following an easy warm-up uphill from Collins Gap along the rabbit fence we realised very quickly what the day had in stock for us. The fence disappeared at an elevation of about 760m and this is when progress slowed down to almost non-existent. Encountering the first bits of wild vegetation and battling through Gympie Gympie, raspberry vines and other plants that seemingly solely exist to get you, we eventually made it to the start of Barney Spur. The wild ride continued all the way to Burrajum Peak and onwards to the saddle with Barney West Peak. Getting up onto Savages Ridge and climbing through the chimney onto West Peak we just made it before darkness set in. A descent to Rum Jungle and onwards down South Ridge and we arrived at Yellow Pinch 13hours and 55mins after we had set off from Collins Gap. In all that time, we covered a measly 17.24km, most of which were the South Ridge.
Disclaimer: As with any of my bushwalking adventures, good fitness and confident remote navigation is essential as there are no tracks, usually no markers and I am not following established routes
