- Winter 2021 #2 - An ascent of South east ridge to East Peak, then descent of South ridge via the rainforest saddle. Observation of the route and its features.
Walking conditions : Tracks, footpads and interpretative navigation,
with steep scrambling in places.
Walk length : Probably 14 km - 1000m height gain.
Notes : The South East ridge is a very direct route to East peak,
and this circuit is probably the most popular day walk.
The route crosses East peak entirely, descending to the rainforest saddle
and South ridge.
South-East ridge is the natural ascendancy from South ridge, as it is the
next level of difficulty. The track head sign at Yellowpinch gives information on the circuit.
No walk on the B is easy, and this particular walk requires many hours of
concentrative foot placement. Extra care should be taken later in the day,
when a subtle tiredness will underlie all motion.
Mobile reception is non-existent in the lower, forested sections.
Stay safe to enjoy the wonderful mountain!
