Hey Matt, I see you and other photographers shut your mouths about BLM & all the black shooting deaths…
You should do a follow up, do some research, see if the death tolls are down since your boy Biden got into office for the black community.
Cause now you look like a bandwagon talking head joker throwing a opinion out & fading away on the issue afterwards.

Seeing your work in a publication feels unreal. It makes me happy that you've gotten the opportunity to take on a challenge like that. If you are going to switch from film to digital you should be shooting with a Hasselblad H series body with one of the digital backs that were made for that series. Best of both worlds. You can shoot on film with the H series film backs and can shoot on digital with the H series digital backs. Lastly an older used H series film camera with the backs would either be the same price or less than a new Fujifilm GFX100S, with the advantage of being able to use better medium format lenses than what Fuji offers.

I think while people might feel “betrayed” it’s important to remember that any type of camera (whether film/digital), there’s always the importance of the prevailing message behind the photograph.
And however you get to express that message, it shouldn’t really matter if you are shooting digital or film.
Personally, film does have its benefits and is an absolute process, but we’ve progressed beyond film and our technology for many other good reasons too. That’s why I tend to shoot both depending on the type of work.
Love to see it and can’t wait to see what else you come up with Willem! 🫡

@@williamvb7301 you’re mistaken my friend. Film makes an imprint of a person in space and time on a tactile object that will always exist.
Digital captures a data file like any file on your computer and will only be seen with the help of an analog device like your computer.
      Two totally different processes.
One is a virtual reality capture that creates an image base on numbers in an algorithm of what it thinks something should look like.
Where as film is actually a real life capture of its subject.

    • @caleidoo
      @caleidoo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

@@lmnop7098 That's the most ridiculous defend of film vs digital I have ever read. First, a lot of people scan their film and process it digitally. Secondly, it's not a real life capture of reality. It's an interpretation of reality done by chemicals. You can shoot one scene with different films and it will all look completely different. How can they all be "real life?" if they all look different? Add to this, the exposure chosen by the camera or the photographer, affecting the image versus the reality. So colors, contrast, depth of field and exposure are all off on film, compared to reality.
If your main argument is the realness of a image, there is no contest, in a lot of cases a good digital camera will capture as close to reality as possible. Or can be tweaked to be a very close to reality. While film will always be a filtered interpretation. A beautiful one, but just another version of reality.

I love shooting film but I can't really afford it price per picture anyway so I picked up a second hand XT3 pretty cheap at a local store, it's a great wee camera and it has such a similar workflow to my canon and cosina that I can still work in the same method but not have to worry about bad shots or the cost of what is just a hobby that doesn't have any returns.
I love shooting with my Canon 1.8 50mm on the fuji, the glass has a real (crappy) vintage look to it and the experience of actual manual focusing (as opposed to autofocus lenses with motor driven manual focus) is super tactile.

You made the Fuji look like film to me!

The Desert Sands image is gorgeous! Now, was that a lot of post production, was the video capture just crappy-dull, or did the lighting change drastically while you were shooting it? Because the rich colors and snap that you froze in time were just not there when you walked up to it in real time. I was also wondering about the keystone and if you adjusted it in post, but you answered that question. Nice work!
How can one obtain a copy of the apartment sign article?

My Fuji XT3 fits in well with my 5 Olympus cameras from 1967, 1972, 1974 and 1985!
Allows me to save money, while locking me into creative mode. Worry less about RAW edits for hours, and just go shoot. Enjoy the shot itself, the process of composition.

I started doing photography back in highschool (mid 90s) using my dad's old Nikon F2 (Which I still own) along with a set of Nikkor primes. I really enjoyed film and it was great for learning how to take things slow spend time to compose an image. When the D700 arrived I switched to digital and I have not loaded film in a camera since, but I never stopped using the old vintage lenses. It turns out for me at least, it was never about the film, but the old lenses are something I really love. Now I've moved on to a sony Sony mirrorless system and a growing collection of vintage lenses and adaptors and filters. I must say I have no desire to pickup a roll of film an shoot with the old Nikon.
