To address a few comments, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as the old saying goes. In this case, it depends a lot on the needs of the player. For a student/amateur, a custom flute worth tens of thousands may not be worth it. I actually love this $80 Mendini flute and am amazed at how good it sounds. It can be an excellent choice for a beginner or occasional hobbyist...or for marching band. However, as a pro, the resonant sound and quality of the mechanism on my custom flute are everything, especially when I am playing with other fine instruments in orchestral and chamber music settings.
Yes. “Richer sound”
But the $80 flute was surprisingly good 👍
I was thinking, "the difference does not worth 28.920$" but also "I may not hear it". But I didn't think about the orchestra setting. Still I'm really surprised and curious and I hope to reach that level of hearing sometime (or better not, because I'm not rich 🤣🤣🤣)
I have a mendini flute because I just started band but I think it varies on the player and how "good" they are.
For $80, that is insane. Probably feels like driving manual, as you have to work more to get a similar quality sound, but honestly: my first flute - $600 Yamaha - sounded worse...
They sound nearly identical. The difference in price does not reflect the nearly inaudible difference in sound.
Nailed it! But I'll say this, the $80 flute sounded far better than I'd have expected for an instrument of that price.
It’s surprisingly good! Thanks for watching!
@@LanceSuzuki it all depends on the player's skill level.
Exactly!
A good player can any flute sound good.
The cheaper instrument sounds not too bad, only because of this player's abilty to create a very decent sound probably on any flute.
Oh noo....for me, the first one was the expensive one. Amazing the way you play it! ❤️
Thanks, Christina! ❤️
I thought the sound of A was more pleasant to hear smh
@@Alex-iu7dl its all opinion, but B was more clear and the low notes were full
Maybe it's just the recording, but B really sounded more harsh for me (I used earphones). A however, sounded very nice. So, well played, that you can make such a "cheap" flute sound so nice. 😊
@@BlokfluitgroepI would agree, I also thought A was the more expensive one as B almost seemed like it had some sort of distortion/resonance as if it were made from a cheaper or less dense material. I wouldn't be surprised if B sounded better in person.
The first flute played, I thought sounds great. Then you played the second, 'nah, that's the $29k'. Shows how beautifully you play.
I think most beginners can start with inexpensive flute to get started but in the end I did notice slightly the more expensive one. But don’t let that stop you from starting your flute experience as I enjoyed both. I’m not a flute person....just love this channel. ❤️
Thanks, Lee!
The second one had such a full sound and you couldnt hear the air like you usually can. I wish i could do that lol
The expensive one's vibrato sounds better and has more depth and the sound is softer, but if you don't pay a lot of attention you can barely notice, that requires a great player, you are amazing
As a flute player , I could feel the vibrations of the instrument on B. More as A sounded like a marching instrument
This was by far the cleaver way to identify best instrument.
I'm so enchanted by the sound of the flute!!
Quite easy to notice that wonderful warm tone in the lower register. But sound is only one part of the story - the main difference is usually in the feel/feedback the instrument gives back to the player - and a cooperative/flexible instrument is nothing but pure joy to the player - which leads the musician to automatically explore all those tiny inexhaustible tones/moods. A positive feedback loop, if you will.
I ACTUALLY THOUGHT B WAS THE AMAZON ONE. THATS AMAZING!!!❤❤
Yes I can appreciate a quality professional flute sound
Huge difference, if you are a musician. Still, the $80 flute (while extremely dry in comparison) sounded just fine for me to record with. I can put a tiny bit of hall effect on it and get pretty close to the expensive sound.
That epicanthic fold is poppin bro😊
It reminds of Tom Cruise from Top Gun. Its not the plane, its the pilot!
Bravo!
B has a darker and warmer tone color, but i think that's because its gold. Both sound amazing and would be suited for different things.
as someone who plays the flute I just want to point out that the quality of the flute isn't just about the sound.
a cheap flute made with poor quality materials or built poorly
can lead to difficulty maintaining it or playing it , for example some cheap flute may have problems with spings, mechinisims posts can bend and the instrument can be more difficult to play and just need more repairs
I personally wouldn't buy a custom made instrument but a good intermediate instrument can make a big difference especially if you play often
the first one sounds better than than the expensive one.
Can you tell me exactly which aspects of the sound seem to be better in your opinion on the 1st one?
Yes. I did hear it before it was revealed.
Yes, it was pretty obvious. Resonates more richly, fuller tone. Subtle, but very noticable.
Sicilienne!!!! My favorite solo to play!!!!
I could definitely tell when you played. The $29k flute has so much more richness to its sound.
I would be interested in a $1200 flute vs the $29k flute. I imagine at some point the sound improvement levels off and you’re just paying for brand names and appearance.
Nice one! Ok, phone audio not helpful, but only very minor differences audible. I really couldn't say either was better. Clearly your skill has a lot to do with that. How playable though? Did you have to work harder on the cheap one?
Just going to list some benefits of having a nuvo 2.0 plastic flute as your intro flute despite being 2.25 times more expensive.
Durability, doesn't need much maintenance. Doesn't need to be cleaned immediately after use. Isn't as effected by humidity making it safer to play outside. Can leave it assembled on your desk increasing unstructured practice. Also getting good intonation is a bit harder which helps you develop good habits that will be amplified when upgraded to a better student it intermediate flute that produces better tones easier.
Also the nuvo is quieter overall so I can practice more often without annoying my neighbors.
The very fine engraving in the bottom flute kinda gave it away...
Eagle eye! 🦅 Nice!
To me A sounded a bit stuffy and didn’t have as much as a clear sound but B sounded great smooth and clean
There is a famous poem called “The Old Violin -The Touch of a Masters Hand”. You have demonstrated that the perceptively cheap and unworthy can be elevated to a tool worthy of respect and admiration. You fooled me. Well done.
Thanks so much, David! ❤️
I guessed correctly, and A sounded surprisingly better due to the fact it’s 80$. I thought they would do some improvements on the sounds of the flute.
Absolutely, Notes of flite B have different characters, while flute A sounds static, not expressive
I did hear the difference and guessed correctly. Id like to point out you could probably a rusty fence post sound amazing.
Yes. The $80 did not transition as well between notes. I also hear the amount of effort into blowing into the $80 flute.
I Wass stunned to earn that the sound I prefer was coming out of the cheaper flute...
The expensive flute was louder and was overwhelming my s21 ultra phone speaker
He played the second one in minor so that the first one sounds better. I've never heard $80 Amazon flute in person. But I can tell you with all honesty the more expensive ones vs cheap rental ones definitely do sound different.
Yep. Guessed it right. i was one of those 'It doesn't matter what metal the flute is made of' guys till I could afford my gold flute. Gold is on a whole other level entirely. The 80$ flute was definitely regulated. But Im sure it will fall out of regulation within 2 weeks of constant play.
I think maybe the mic didn't do B justice. I didn't like how spread and spinny the tone was. The tone on A seemed more focused, which I enjoyed.
There are stepping in the cheap one while tones are connected smoothly in the expensive one. Still, skill could make it barely noticeable
I’m serious this is amazing information thank you
I actually like the sound of the $80 dollars one better . However the expensive one defines the lower tones a little better .
Huh, maybe it's just my speakers, but begore the reveal; "A" sounded a lot clearer while B seemed to have to (idk how to describe it, not a musician) irregularities whole playing so I thought that B was the cheap 😅
I’ve been playing instruments for most of my life and I have to say, there is certainly merit to getting a really nice instrument and they do tend to have a richer sound quality, but I have my fair share of mendini instruments that I’ve bought for as low as $30 and I think they are great for some uses, students who aren’t sure they’ll stick with it, marching band, or any other gig where an instrument may get banged around a bit, they hold up alright and don’t sound awful. Besides it builds character to learn on something that requires a touch more effort to sound good 😂
The expensive one is louder and has more harmonics, a more nozy sound and a bit more focused. A mid range flute, how does it sound?
The expensive one is clearly diffrent the other one i‘m not sure what note but one note sound diffrent then the other one even tho they’re same note
In my opinion the cheap one sounds better
And i‘m following you :)
Average music listeners: Nope...
Musicians: Ahhhh, There's a tonal difference
Yeah B sounded a lot fuller! Good to know expensive flutes sound expensive too
Honestly, I was a little scared to make this video because I wasn't sure how it would turn out. Glad to know that my expensive one DOES sound expensive. Whew!
Yes. I closed my eyes and listened. Both sounded fine but the first flute had a sharper tone whereas the
Its for me better big price 😃 so very clear to play 😊
i just wish in the video both had the same melody!!
Compared side by side the expensive one definitely had a richer tone and depth, but if I weren’t actively listening for it I wouldn’t even know that the 80$ flute was that cheap at all. It might really boil down to the skill. In the hands of an artist even a cheap paintbrush can make a masterpiece.
interesting! I liked the cheaper flute, it didn't have the same kind of buzzing as the more expensive one
C'est que le musicien est excellent !!!!
Yo what song or duet did you play becouse it sounds amazing
Yep. A higher B was soft and darker
1st impression A sounded better but 2nd time B was a little richer but definitely not $28,920 difference. Overseas flutes are cheaper and now almost just as good imho.
The instrument makes about 20, may be 30% of the music, everything else comes from the musician. The expensive flute had this strong compressed resonance that just hits different, while you can here a slight thiness of the $80 flutes tone. Is very minor, but it's a quality thing that should only be thought of when your music can pay the bills or one has the excess to indulge inbquality without worrying about expense
Genuinely thought B was the cheap one. As a flute player I thought the $80 one was fine, but it’s probably better to get something a bit more expensive
Can't figure out which one is better before I know it . Can't believe the $80 flute is better than the expensive one.
As a flute player I couldn't even tell the difference
That’s crazy how a 80$ flute sounds better than a expensive one
What is the name of that song? That was beautiful, would like to listen to a full version
I liked the sound of the first one more..
I got wrong, i'm not an expert but the cheap one seem to sound better at high frequencies but the expensive one is more rich on low frequency and harsh on high 😅
B has a darker and deeper tone. It has more depth and character. Mellower. Its probably made from gold or a denser material than silver or nickel. Amazon's good for a solid sound, but will never have that nuanced sound the more expensive one can make. Ill stay with my beginner flute just give me 25 hours a day
A talented artist can make any instrument sound good. Zack wylde made a hello kitty guitar sound like a studio Gibson!
Slight difference in sound, but for that amount of a price change, not even noticeable.
Oh wow now I know I have a bamboo flute 🪈
Honestly...I thought the $80 flute sounded better...The more expensive flute seemed to sound out more of the overtones (I don't know enough to know I don't know enough)...
I mean its not the instrument that do all the work,if you put the expensive instrument in the hand of someone who can't play it will still sound awful ,everyone can get to have a nice sound and its true that if you can play you can play anything and make it sound like an expensive flute but the expensive one got such an amazing tone that make me wanna cry🥹
B is the golden one and A is the 80 dollar
Yes I got it!
I could tell the difference, but only because the $29,000 flute has a richer or deeper sound (idk the technical term, but both are nice sounding instruments).
How expensive can a flute get before the quality stops increasing?
knew right away which was which! WOOHOO! ( Goes back to playing my 10 thousand dollar flute )
Yeah I did got it!!
👍
80$ sounded like 29k
Same to me
I nailed it i new it lol
My cheap flute was never right
No, because with the expensive flure you fluted a less round sound compared to the amazon one. Btw wait a minute, if the amazon flute can sound that good, it will be an awesome thing to start on... i guess as 2nd hand mostly are in need of repair and repair cost more than the 2nd flute cost.
Does anyone know what is the name of the song played?
I liked the sound of the 80 flute more
Yeh i can see the branding
I just bought a 60$ flute which my flute teacher said it amazing.
Yes I can.
some player cannot place the nickel plated instrument on their lip or fingers
True. 👍
Wow... I listened to the video on my phone speakers and I guessed that A sounds better
I mean, I can hear a difference, but definitely not a $28,920 difference.
I guessed correctly.
Got it. But that $80 flute sounds amazing. And the $29K flute is not worth a fraction of that price!
I think b sounds higher, and I think a is the cheaper one
I cant believe it's not butter...
I feel like ive heard this before
LAFIN 14K GOLD HEAD JOINT 😂😂😂😂😂 Mr. LAFIN BEST SOUND MASTER
I’m not sure if I’m correct, but I think the one at the top is Yamaha😅
Is it me, or am I the only one who just figured out my flute is 29,000? And is borrowed
I am interested 🎉🎉
Somehow I did, I don't even know how to play the flute
I’m sorry ik we guitar players spend a couple thousand on a guitar and then more on an amp and pedals but 29,000 on a flute…
God damn that’s insane
I could tell but I liked the sound of the $80.00 flute
I have one yfl281
Alexandra
B is the 80 roller one
