- A quick how-to on setting up a dash cam on a Toyota Highlander (2014 - 2019 model years). This works for vehicles equipped with auto-dimming rearview mirrors with power available above the plastic shroud. Dongar Technologies develops an adapter that's clean and simple. The adapter seen here is a 10-pin Type B. It's one of the easiest mods to keep yourself protected on the road today. Hope this helps - Cheers!

I purchased the adapter and installed it successfully in my Toyota Highlander 2023 Hybrid by connecting it to the 10-pin digital mirror in my car (installation was a breeze). My question is: will the 24-hours parking mode of my dash cam work? Or do I still need the hardwire kit to wire it to the fuse box? In other words, is the 10-pin connector hot when the car is off?
Thanks
Nope. I reached out to them about this and it's designed to turn ON/OFF with your vehicle to prevents premature draining of car battery should the vehicle sit for an extended period of time. However, if that's not a concern to you, then I would go down the fuse box or OBDI connector route. Cheers!
Thanks bro
How would this work for a 2011 model?
Will I get power for 24 hour surveillance if I get the plug? I do have the same dash cam but I have not instaled it yet.
Hey there! Tapping into this allows the dashcam to turn [ON] and [OFF] with the vehicle. If you want 24h surveillance, you'll need to run a full hardwire kit which will pull power from your cars battery when vehicle is [OFF].
It doesn’t work for my Highlander LE 2019. There is no power cable.
Hmm...does the LE come with a powered rearview mirror? HomeLink or auto-dimming?

It is a real pain in the ass to jam the connectors under that cover. The bulky adapter interferes with re-installing the cover, and the wiring has to be manipulated to not be in the way of the cover attachment clips, too.
I agree that it can be a little cumbersome tidying up the cables in order to pop that cover back on. They actually released a new version of this where the USB module sits outside of the plastic shroud.
@@Auto-Minute My goal with the adapter was to make a less obvious power cable connection. I FINALLY got the adapter under the cover, and the cover in place, but it was a struggle. I wouldn't like the USB connector external to the cover. That's not "less obvious" to me.
@@powrguy1696 I know what you mean. I personally like the hidden aspect of the connector as well, but I get why they made the change. In any case, glad you got it sorted out! 🙏🏾
What about for a 2023 Highlander hybrid? Which adapter?
The adapter of the link in the description works perfectly fine with the 2023 Highlander Hybrid, I just installed it in mine (I have a digital rearview mirror, but I think you only need an autodimming mirror). The installation was very easy and quick.
@@angeloesposito5797is the process the same when removing the covers for the mirror? Looking to get the Oem camera and cable as well.
@@muko2002 yes, removing the cover is the same. If I'm not mistaken, the OEM camera doesn't have the 24h and the collision-sensing video-lock features. I decided to go with a cheaper and after-market camera and I'm very satisfied with it.
@@angeloesposito5797 thank you for answering. We just got a 23 xse blacked out red interior and we would like to get a Camera for sure.
Where is the clip
How do yo see the video records?
Depending on the camera, they usually have aplications in which you can do settings to the dash, see videos, and save what you do need to save.
It not enogh power for my dash cam
Uh oh....what kinda dashcam are you running on your Highlander?
@@Auto-Minute it was running good on 12v
@@IvanZhang1210 Gotcha, well definitely reach out to them and I'm sure they'll sort it out for ya! 👌What dashcam are you running? I'd be curious to test something like that out myself.
Does it fit with 2024 Toyota grand highlander xle
Hey there! Yes it does.
Where do you get that adapter
Hey there! Thanks for mentioning that. I'll add a link to the description. Here you go - dongar.tech/products/10pin-type-b-lexus-toyota
