Tbh I really like KEP1ER despite them supposed to be being a project group like IZ*ONE (I told yall about). However, there was rumors that KEP1ER may have their contract extended but due to individual agencies each of the members come from, there has been a failed attempt to reach an agreement with WAKEONE ENTERTAINMENT (the company they are under along with SWING ENTERTAINMENT. And the company WAKEONE actually has another group (boy group named ZEROBASEONE formed under survival show “BOYS PLANET”) that debuted July of last year and are also a project group expected to only last for 2 years and 6 months. Ppl think that because both groups have grown so much popularity so fast that the companies will have no choice but to make sure they continue HOWEVER that is not the case because actually it is the opposite. The more popular the group the more popular individual members become which regards back to their respective SOLO AGENCIES they may come from. So, people think because ZB1 or KEP1 have become so popular that this guarantees an automatic extended contract but in reality this may cause for their companies to legitimately split them up and focus on their individual members or idols part of these temporary groups. IDK, I kinda hope KEP1 and even ZB1 continue for a while bc they make really good music, have quite valid fan bases, and live up to their reputations as a group and individually.
*side note* temporary groups happen occasionally in kpop esp under various survival shows but not all.
Kep1er is a nine-member girl group under (as I mentioned prior) WAKEONE and SWING ENTERTAINMENT). KEP1 were formed through one of Mnet's popular female idol survival show called called “GIRLS PLANE 999.” Kep1er debuted on January 3rd of 2022 with their mini album “First Impact.” Their debut title track/mv “WA DA DA” was iconic and created quite a buzz in the kpop community all over. Literally, everyone was doing the dance.
Their fandom name btw is “Kep1ian.”
When it comes to their music, they do have a variety of genres but mostly they make some chanty, pop, guitar, funky types of tunes. Idk, some ppl could agree or disagree but there are some songs people either bop too from them or don’t. There really is a subtle mix between a lot of them tho tbh. But either way, I recommend their songs/mvs/performances:
    WA DA DA
    UP
    WING WING
    WE FRESH
    I’ I do! Do you?
    GIDDY
    GALILEO
    GRAND PRIX
The members (pls note that some of the members do not have fixed positions like singing, rapping, dancing, etc):
3:10 Yujin: Leader, 27 yo, she is a South Korean singer and actress under CUBE ENTERTAINMENT (same company as GIDLE). Fun fact: as yall already know, Yujin indeed was part of the group CLC but the group as we know are not active anymore due to indefinite hiatus,
2:47 Xiaoting: Main Dancer, Visual, 24yo, Chinese singer under Top Class Entertainment, Fun Fact: she's a professional ballroom dancer with 50+ “dance sport awards” ranking both national and internationally. She also ranked #6 in a global British competition
3:16 Chaehyun: Korean, Main Vocalist, Center, 21yo, under WAKEONE ENT
3:02 Dayeon: Korean, Main Dancer, 20yo, under JELLYFISH ENTERTAINMENT (which btw has a known older boy group by the name of VIXX) and most recently a boy group named EVNNE that cause quite some hype for the company
3:28 Heuning Bahiyyih: 19yo, Vocalist, ethnic wise, she is part Polish, British, and German due to her father. However, he is American as he migrated there because I read somewhere he was born in Brazil. It’s a lot and ppl used to find their whole background so confusing lol but her mom is Korean so she is (mixed). She has 2 siblings both of whom are in the Korean industry. She has a brother named Heuning Kai (2 years older than her who is part of BIG HIT ENTERTAINMENT’S boy group TXT who are extremely popular). Also Bahi was born in South Korea and I believe Kai was born in Hawaii, USA. All of her siblings are extremely fluent in Korean and their English actually is good but because they grew up speaking other language in an an Asian country, they work hard on improving their English and Bahi actually has improved a lot. Lastly, Kai and Bahi have an older sister J’Lea was also was a kpop idol. The group name was VIVA but they disbanded in 2019
2:55 Mashiro: Japanese, Co-Leader, 24yo, Japanese singer under 143 ENTERTAINMENT
2:51 Yeseo: Korean, youngest member (maknae) at 18yo, Fun Fact: a singer ofc but a notable child actress under this company called JTG ENTERTAINMENT along with another named MARBLING E&M. She also used to be in a 2020 girl group named BUSTERS and as a child was in a child group named CuiteL.
3:33 Yongeun: Main Vocalist, 19yo, Korean, under BISCUIT ENT.
5:01 - girl In the middle, her name is Hikaru: Japanese, Main Dancer, Main Rapper, 19yo, Japanese singer under Avex Management, Fun Fact: there was speculation that originally Hiakru was SUPPOSED to debut in XG (yall just reacted to them, the all JAPANESE gg). Also, fans used to claim Hikaru would be joining XG after KEP1 disbands but this was never confirmed. The reason is because Hikaru trained with all the XG members for years under the same label company that helped with XG’s career debut. Hikaru is insanely talented and easily my fav from Kep1 so I hope after KEP1 if they do not continue, she makes due somewhere else
    Hopefully more KEP1 to come!

Great info. The temporary group thing is a bit surprising to us, but we understand the marketing from a basic level but feel it could backfire if the public really likes the group and they disband it. Anyway, we appreciate all this detail, as always, and we're sure it will help others as well, so we are pinning it.

@@CoachCastTV yea. Like it is quite surprising when you first hear about it because even for me when I found out about this concept I could not get the hang of it. However, I never had ULTIMATELY stanned a group who was a project so I wouldn’t even kno how that feels for those who do and know the high chances of their favs disbanding. But the purpose of these groups do help solo idols in the long run esp in regards to the promotion of themselves and their companies. But even still as yall said it can do more harm than good esp for those who become attached to their idols on parasocial levels even (btw NWJNS has a mv DITTO that is theorized to be speaking out to fans who have parasocial relationships w idols and how they are not healthy but can be seen as a way of overt idol love). Also, ofc anytime always happy to flood any info I have and ofc love ur feedback each time 🤍

Kep!er was formed through the survival program Girl's Planet 999, where trainess from different companies compete. The group emerging from the program will be managed by the show's company and the members' companies accept to lend their artists to that company. Typically, groups formed through survival shows will have a 2-1\2 year contract before the members return to their original companies, the goal being to bring exposure to their original company as survival programs are extremely popular. Thus being a temporary group, as opposed to permanent groups formed from a company's own pool of trainees which typically has a 7 year contract which gets renewed if the members and company can reach an agreement at that time.

@@CoachCastTV Right now all the companies from the Kep!er members are in talk to try and extend their contract, but it's not looking good. The most popular temporary group was Iz*One, and they also tried to keep it going but failed. Then two members from IZ*One formed Ive (Yujin and Wonyoung), two other members went to Le Sserafim (Chaewon and Sakura), and many others became successful soloists (Yena, Chaeyeon, etc...) I believe the fact that these groups are popular is exactly why they end after their temporary contract expires, because their original companies want their part of that success back

*KEP1ER* was formed through the survival show *Girls Planet 999* They were meant to be a temporary group, only a project of a few songs then disband. We don't know why, but tjey are fairly popular and have gone over their expiration date. Hopefully they stay together a while longer.

    • @Urracht

      Actually, some corrections/clarifications:
Kep1er is scheduled to disband in July 2024. Their lifespan was contractually set at 2.5 years from their "debut" date.
Hopefully, this helps Coach with a more familiar concept, but the KPop industry, as a whole, is comparable to sports in the U.S. There are companies who have talent scouts who try to find raw talent at a young age and then they sign them to a training contract where they refine their skills.
Kep1er is a temporary group for this reason: They were created from a reality competition show. This is, to keep with the sports metaphor, this would be akin to a baseball Minor League all-star game. The various companies ("teams") can bring their trainees and free agents and are showcased to the audience. By winning over the viewers, the group has an immediate fan-base from the viewers of the reality show (the "winning" is by popular vote of the viewers). However, when all is said and done, all of the members of Kep1er contractually belong to their original companies. They are just "on loan" to Kep1er as a result of their win in the show.
There are rumors that the Kep1er members have a desire to stay together, but ultimately, the decision falls to the companies they belong to.
For Coach and Mrs. Coach, the members they found alluring were: Yujin (from CLC - you are pronouncing her name correctly), Youngeun (pronounced yung-un) and Xiao Ting (the tall one - the sole Chinese member and pronounced like "shouting" but with a pause in the middle).

*apologies i did not realize how long this comment was getting until I reread it 😅*
The “problem” if you will, with temporary groups formed off survival shows is whether the fanbase will unite or not.
The biggest issue with Kepler is that you had 99 girls on a survival show that was heavily watched internationally (wasn’t really watched in Korea) so each girl had a very dedicated solo fandom (which means people that only cared for that ONE girl). Usually after the group winners are announced for the most part, people unite because you only have 2.5 years. Keplers fandom, on the other hand never did that so it’s 9 solo fandoms with some actual OT9 or keplian fans (fanbase name) sprinkled here and there.
Think Keplers fandom (since most are solo fans) are probably the first where 75-85% are counting down till the group disbands, due to so many issues but especially company wise bc, WakeOne are truly horrible. They have around 3/4 girls in Kepler that they favor and the rest get honestly not even the bear minimum. This leads to HEAVY conflict within the fandom and just leads to more solo stans.
Kepler sadly peaked at their debut (wa da da) and have just steadily gone down since then so it truly would just be beneficial for every member to go back to their original company and redebut with their new groups, as a soloist, or to pursue acting.
Since the group only has a little more than 5 months left it is now a huge topic of discussion on what the members will do after the group:
Two members Sakamoto Mashiro (99 liner, ex JYP trainee with ITZY, 2:56 ) and Kang Yeseo (05 liner, child actress, 2:52 ) are signed to the same company called 143 entertainment [houses the boy group iKON and girl group LIMELIGHT], are slated to be added into their already existing gg LIMELIGHT. It’s already been known since limelight’s creation that new members would be added into the group after a while and it was just announced last month that this would be limelight’s last comeback as a threesome and “new members will be added this year”
Yujin who you know from CLC will most likely not debut in a group again due to her age (96 liner). Her contract with CUBE entertainment will also be done when Kepler is completed, so she’ll most likely sign with a smaller acting agency and star in smaller web dramas (she has already done acting in some web dramas before).
Shen Xiaoting (99 liner, Chinese , 2:49). She has a more unique case that her company in China does not debut anyone. They are more of a “prep school” to debut if you will. She has the second most amount of solo stans and is very popular and probably the most bias member in the group. The issue is that Kepler isn’t known enough in Korea for her to be signed with a popular agency so she’ll most likely move back to China and purse an acting career. She’s not super fluent in Korean and Korea as a whole is very xenophobic to Chinese idols/actors so she’d find more success if she went home. On the other hand her solo fanbase wants her to stay in Korea bc it’s harder to keep up to date with Chinese entertainment outside of China.
Kim Chaehyun (01 liner, ex SM trainee with AESPA, 3:18) she won the show solely on Korean votes alone and became the center. Before the show she was an independent trainee (means she wasn’t signed to any company) so by default she was signed to WakeOne during her time in Kepler. So it’s up in the air whether she’ll stay or not. She’s honestly much more suited to being a soloist than a group, her biggest weakness is that her voice cracks if there is intense choreography and she seems to have health issues pretty frequently. WakeOne favors her heavily so they would probably offer her a contract if she wanted it.
Kim Dayeon (02 liner, 7:40). She’ll most likely go back to her company since they have been forming a gg for over a year now. Most of her fans are worried bc JELLYFISH (her company) ruined their last gg called gugudan by showing extreme favoritism to survival show winners over other members. Dayeon already doesn’t have the best reputation since she was beyond favored in the survival show and in Kepler, so her fans are worried jellyfish will just ruin another group instead of keeping things fair (obviously her getting favored isn’t her fault but she gets dragged for it online almost every day so her fans don’t want it to continue in the next group so people leave her alone).
Ezaki Hikaru (04 liner, AVEX trainee and almost made it into the global group XG, 5:09) people thought she would be added to XG after Kepler but i would highly doubt it. XG blew up big in 2023 so adding her to the group would be very out of place for their fandom. Plus Hikaru is known for her rapping and dancing and her being added into a group already known for rapping and dancing would not be beneficial at all, since she wouldn’t bring anything new to the table besides her fanbase. AVEX has been prepping another gg for around 2 years now so Hikaru will most likely be added to that. People are assuming it’s another global group and not just a jpop group.
Seo Youngeun (04 liner, 7:27). She’s signed to an extremely small company that seems to have financial difficulties. They have one other bg who debuted last year and haven’t had a comeback since. Her fandom is majority located in Japan so they are all hoping she leaves that company. They were planning a gg but stopped posting about them around half a year ago so they either scrapped the group or a preparing to debut them (but it’s probably the former). If she leaves her company she’ll probably sign with another smaller company and debut in a group or a soloist.
Huening Bahiyyih (04 liner, has popular siblings in the entertainment industry, 8:04). Hiyyih is by far the most popular and known member of this group. She was voted number one in 115 counties during the survival show and ended up placing second. She’s called the FOTG which is short for “face of the group” which means the first member you think of when someone says Kepler. Issue is WakeOne hates her the most in this group so you have the most popular member with the largest solo fanbase given adlibs or one line per song. Hiyyihs fandom has been counting down for the disbandment since their debut. She signed with a mid sized company called IST entertainment [houses popular boy group called THE BOYZ, along with bgs VICTON and ATBO and ggs APINK and WEEEKLY]. Biggest concern with Hiyyihs fanbase is whether she’ll stay an idol or not (with a big fanbase comes with a lot of hate so she’s gone through really sad and depressing issues from 16 years old due to an insane amount of hate she gets). She did influencing and social media as a young teen so she could go back to that, she also has the height to model and really excels at magazine shoots and she wants to do runway modeling as well, she also majored in acting in high school and is friends with a lot of upcoming actress. Obviously, her fanbase wants her to continue as an idol but will follow her down whatever path she ends up choosing.

On temporary groups: there are these survival shows being held with trainees from various companies who compete to join a project group with a fixed lifespan of 2.5 years. After that period they all return to their respective companies to presumably debut them in their own groups or as a soloist. The goal is for their trainees to get exposure and build up hype & a following beforehand already.
There's also always negotiations about potential extension of these temporary groups, but since there's so many parties involved it never happens. Especially when they're successful the companies want to make use of their trainees themselves and not wait multiple years more.
The most successful example by far to come out of these shows was IZ*ONE. Follow up groups with IZ*ONE members were highly anticipated and boosted the immediate success for both LE SSERAFIM (Chaewon, Sakura) and IVE (Yujin, Wonyoung) a ton.
In Kep1er case they started pretty good, but faded out quite a bit since then. While people like the members many are looking forward to their contract under wakeone to end this July, thinking they can get better opportunities elsewhere.

This group is disbanding in like 5 months. There's a thing in kpop where companies sometimes do project groups which are temporary, (most groups in kpop are permanent don't get it wrong haha) these project groups are made from survival shows where singers and performers from different kpop companies and already established kpop groups go and try to make it into a project group to get "clout" and recognition. Sometimes members of other groups join a project group to help their permanent group get more popularity through that member and sometimes singers that haven't debuted yet do it to get popularity before their group debuts (or in some cases they debut as soloists when the project group ends)
Most project groups last 2 years only, some 1 year (depends on the companies and contract).. So don't get to attached to them. Some examples of idols being part of former project groups are Sakura and Chaewon from LE SSERAFIM (there's a reason LE SSERAFIM started strong in popularity)

Temporary girl group. Will disband this year or so unless they extend their temporary contract one more time., . The other female members has their own agency so it can never become a permanent girl group. The group was formed base on a survival show. over 99 contestant trying to get the top 9 spot.; brutal battle. Almost all survival shows to form a group is temporary, to give them a chance or a 2nd chance to show case their talent to the world. Usually its 1 1/2 - 2 years temporary contract. Once disband, majority will head back to their original agency and they become basically non exitance again until they make it into a permanent group or a soloist like Yujin (former CLC member) . I do not think Yujin can ever be in a group again, she might become a soloist once this is all over

Artists with numbers that represent Korean syllables will crop up from time to time eg Dok2 (Doki), B2ST (Beast) ...and should not be confused with artists with numbers for English syllables like 2NE1 (Twen'y One) or 1TYM (One Time). Just another idiosyncrasy of Kpop culture to trip you up lol.

I still don't care for the big group thing because it doesn't allow for each member to be highlighted properly, and it makes it harder to get to know them. With Kep1er, it's another group that doesn't have singers in that lower register that's my personal preference. They're very talented, of course, and their vocals are great, but with hundreds of Kpop groups (Google says 208) I can be selective. ;)

208? Wow, that's quite a lot. It's truly amazing to us how many of these groups are out there.

Not one of my favorite groups. You have hit most of the major newer girl groups at this point. Some older ones you still need to see are Girls Generation and 2NE1.
