    Thanks for the video. Just got slingshots for me and my dad. Haven't had one in 20 years and figured since we used to enjoy shooting we can have another go at it. Setting them up now!

    That was awesome. Great tutorial, string tip was awesome but the partial pull through tip is the best part.

    What slingshot and bands set-up do you suggest for a beginner?

      I would highly recommend you going to simple-shot.com, and metrogradegoods.com and looking at the various slingshot options available. I would look at the occularis poly models, and the HDPE models as they are fairly cheap, and should work well and be pretty versatile. If you have a bit more to spend, the scout, sold by simpleshot, is said to be a fantastic slingshot, and is recommended by a lot of people I know. Also make sure to get safety glasses as they are very important. As for bands I would recommend some simple theraband gold, or latex flat bands to get you started in target shooting. I buy mine from simpleshot, they sell them in complete band sets and in diy kits where you just get the bands, and you have to attach your own pouches. They also have some great tutorials and guides on their site and on their TH-cam channel that I would recommend checking out. If you are more into the DIY side, both company's have some great products to offer in that category as well, from wood blanks to aluminum cores, and I have many great DIY tutorials on my channel that might interest you as well. Lastly check out www.slingshotcommunity.com/forums. There you will find lots of people with much more knowledge about these things than me :). Good luck!

    How reliable is a standard rubber band compared to the home made rubber latex one?

    • @sharpshooterjd
      @sharpshooterjd  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No idea, sorry, I only use latex.

    • @TheCaptain008
      @TheCaptain008 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sharpshooterjd - Mm. Rubber bands do not old up. You can layer them to make it last longer. But ultimately they break within a few dozen shots, at least that's been the case with my Milbro Catapult.

    • @alexcrowder1673
      @alexcrowder1673 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      For attaching bands, standard office rubber is fine. For the bands doing the propelling though, you honestly want something quality. Not only do office rubber bands not last as many shots, they dont fire anywhere near as fast no matter how many you chain up. Id be nervous to fire a office rubber band slingshot to be honest. Too many knots. The physics with slingshots arent what youd think. Heavier draw weight will ONLY help shoot heavier ammo faster, itll actually shoot light ammo more slowly. The limitation is actually the speed at which the rubber retracts, and thats something office rubber is bad at, particularly when tied together in a bunch of knots. So thats why no matter how many rubber office rubber bands you add, itll always be inferior to flat bands of the same draw weight. Also the thicker your flat bands, or the more you stack, the slower they will retract. Thats why more draw weight isnt always better. Heavy draw weights are definitely helpful for shooting ammo like large lead balls of 1-3cm diameter, but for stuff like BBs youll want only about a 5-6lb draw weight. Many people swear by therabands products. You have to cut them to shape yourself though. Its basically a giant roll or rubber. You can make a whole lot of bands even with a 1 meter roll of it. Its also fun getting the cheaper chinese rubber rolls from 3rd parties though. They come in pretty much every color. Sometimes its nice to get colored bands to match the slingshot. Most rubber intended for slingshots is still good enough, even the cheap colored stuff from china. It just may only last like 200 shots instead of 400 shots like you often get with theraband.

    Can i use zip tie to attach flatband to slingshot ?

    • @sharpshooterjd
      @sharpshooterjd  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would advise against it. I tried it once and it's really difficult to get them on right, and they can damage the bands, and cause them to fail prematurely. You don't want to get hit in the face by a broken band, that's the main reason I wear eye protection. It's honestly way easier, cheaper and safer to do it this way.

    • @vskate
      @vskate 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ok thanks ! i wear eye protection too because one time when im shooting with my slingshot band broke and i get slap to face . :D

    • @sharpshooterjd
      @sharpshooterjd  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +wikto5 No problem, thanks for commenting! Ah that stinks man, glad you didn't get hurt. And I'm glad you now wear eye protection. It's such a simple thing to do, and you only get one pair of eyes :).

    • @alexcrowder1673
      @alexcrowder1673 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vskate same, except it was a 70lb recurve bow lol. Split into 3 pieces and slashed my face and split my lip. I realized i easily could have lost an eye, so now i always use safety glasses even for bb guns and slingshots and stuff lol. Hell, i even use eye protection when i shoot marshmallows out of my slingshot, im not kidding. I also have a 2 year old daughter who im teaching to shoot a very weak modified slingshot i made with marshmallows. I want to set a good example for her. If i expect her to wear her glasses the least i can do is wear mine.

      +Rajiv Lackchan You should be able to do it pretty much the same way, I have never tried chained band sets though, so I don't know for sure.

    How about with tubular bands?

    • @sharpshooterjd
      @sharpshooterjd  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Josh Cohn Should work the same exact way, but I can do a video on that if you want me to :).

    • @joshcohn8934
      @joshcohn8934 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +sharpshooterjd please! I made a plywood slingshot and used a method were I put a hole in the slingshot and put paracord through the holes. I knot off each end so only 1 inch is sticking out of the side yours bands should face then proceed to push them into the bands after a wrap that with some paracord innards and then I'm done

    • @sharpshooterjd
      @sharpshooterjd  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Josh Cohn That's cool! There are a ton of different ways to do it with tubes. I think the most common method is the same as in this video. Some people even use tube protectors to keep the wrap from damaging the bands.

    • @joshcohn8934

      sharpshooterjd Great! Sounds good :) Slingshots are illegal in Holland and we don't use railroad spikes :( Otherwise I would try it.

    • @sharpshooterjd
      @sharpshooterjd  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah that stinks man. Some laws are just ridiculous. A few of the laws here are incredibly stupid too. Like shotguns are legal, but nunchucks are not :).

    • @knivesstuff
      @knivesstuff 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, so true! Here you are allowed to have a sword or machete, but a folding knife isn't allowed to have a blade longer than 10 cm/4inch.

      Try deepening the slots in the forks or doubling the band over. And make sure the wrapping is as tight as you can get it.

    • @sharpshooterjd
      @sharpshooterjd  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also make sure you are pulling the bands over the forks.
