He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."

    I have been shooting flat bands for a while now but recently decided to give it a try. I released my first video this week. I have never seen someone twist their bands like you before. What Is the reason for this? Do you find it effects accuracy?

    could it be done so you have two tubes instead of one tube? i need a stupid easy way to make plinking bands.

    • @sharpshooterjd
      @sharpshooterjd  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It actually works better with two tubes! It's easiest to take a single tube and just fold it in half. I think it would be considered a larks head knot in that case. Would look like this on the pouch side:

    Could you that with flat bands? And not bad shots ,I personally find tubes to be less accurate then flat bands.

    • @sharpshooterjd
      @sharpshooterjd  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +SlingshotWarrrior Possibly, I haven't tried it though. Yeah I agree, have always liked flats better, but tubes just last longer.

    I noticed that on the flat bands you draw way back to your shoulder. what lengths are you using for the straps ? do you feel that your accuracy is the same with both bands

    • @sharpshooterjd
      @sharpshooterjd  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I usually cut all of my bands between 8 and 9 inches long and draw back to above my shoulder like you said. But they could be shorter (especially the tubes as they stretch a little more I think), I just keep them long because I am too lazy to cut them, and so they will last a little longer. But if they were shorter I would get better speeds out of them. The only reason I was drawing to my cheek in this video was because I ran out of tubing, and I couldn't cut them to the length I wanted. I feel like flat bands are much more consistent, accurate and get greater speeds. That is why I use them in most of my videos. However tubular bands can last a lot longer and they can be very fast and accurate as well, I just personally haven't had as much luck with them as some.

    Wow, I'm surprised at how simple that was. Great to know if I ever get tubes because making normal bandsets is the worst.

      +The Slingshot King I know right! They are not that bad if you have a jig. You should look into making one, (I have a tutorial on an under $10 one), they make life so much easier.

    I have recently gotten a tip that a small amount of water, (or spit), can help tighten the knot without putting two much friction on the tubes. I have not tried it yet, but it makes sense. If it works for you, please leave me a comment! I would love to hear from you!

      a drop or 2 of rubbing alcohol works much better

    • @usernamemykel
      @usernamemykel 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agree with Tom - we used to put alcohol on bent rod slingshot
      tips and dip the tubes in alcohol, then push them on the tips - makes it easy. Then we'd give the alcohol some time to evaporate before using the slingshot.

      Thanks! It's actually PVC (polyvinyl chloride), which is used as plumbing pipe :). I have a video on my channel showing how I made it if you are interested.

      They are called flip clips. These ones are homemade. Here is a link to Clever Monikers tutorial on how to make them if you are interested :D. www.slingshotcommunity.com/threads/how-to-make-metal-flipclips-for-7-51.546/

    Knot the rubber ends on the pouch with a small piece of rubber string 😉

  • @jonnydoe3348
    @jonnydoe3348 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Youre twisting your bands when you pull them up to your cheek. This would cause those erattic shots you were referring to. You want to be sure to keep them as straight and untweaked as much as possible. Straight draw, not twist.

    • @jonnydoe3348
      @jonnydoe3348 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      no*** twist

    • @sharpshooterjd
      @sharpshooterjd  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      To my knowledge you are incorrect. It is generally excepted in the slingshot community that twisting the pouch is preferred, as it helps to eliminate fork hits. I have done it for years, as do most other shooters, with no accuracy problems, and I have competed at two national slingshot competitions with this style. It also puts your wrist in a much more natural position, and as far as I know, does not contribute to erratic shots. If anything not twisting the pouch will result in more erratic shots, as it puts your wrist in a weird position, which could lead to tweaking the pouch up or down, which causes fork hits and other problems. However this is only to the best of my knowledge, and I highly recommend you doing your own research on the subject.

    ALWAYS yank on it. Especially when no one else is around. For their safety, of course.

    I like your tips, but I'm not impressed at all with that "cow" hitch.

    • @sharpshooterjd
      @sharpshooterjd  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's actually quite secure if done right :). It's elastic not rope, so if tightened right, ideally with water or spit or something, it can hold very tightly. It's not a replacement for the normal methods, but it could be pretty handy in the field if you needed to re-tie a band and you lost the tie.
