Thank you so much for posting this, we need more videos like this especially of black women and HAITIAN women (I’m Haitian too) and their journey to becoming a veterinarian. I’m rooting and wishing you a successful journey! 💕

Girl! Finding videos likes this is like finding a needle in a hay stack it literally feels impossible! As a black vet student seeing videos this is so motivating and inspirational it’s very easy to feel alone. Keep posting girl show us everything !💗💗
Much respect. It ain't easy. I got into vet med at 40. Randomly rescued and rehabbed and an injured opossum, started rehabbing, walked into my local vet, told them I was ready for a career change, they hired me an an assistant and now I'm finishing my BA in hopes of going to vet school. Good luck on your journey.
Ohhh wowww! What a unique journey!! God bless you for joining the field at 40. That’s so inspiring. Wishing you the best of luck on your journey to vet school 🙂
Don't give up that dream!! This job is super tough, yet very rewarding. This video doesn't show the really hard stuff, but don't let that deter you! We need more awesome vets/techs!!!
Wait omg, I’m a first generation Haitian American and I’ve never seen a Haitian vet. Planning on being a vet when I’m out of school, currently shadowing whenever I can at a veterinary clinic
As a pre-vet student myself, this video is everything!!! thank you so much, looking forward to more videos. A VEG just opened right by my house, I'm trying to do shadowing there!!!
Just found you; and you’re legit so pretty. I’ve just decided to go back to college and become a vet, emergency small animals maybe perhaps with marine animals on the side if I’m able to. I know it’ll be years and years of work but I’m tired of just kinda being here yknow? I want to live life and not just go through the motions. lol got heavy but thanks for the video!!! Very appreciated xoxo
Thank you so much!! This means so much to me 🥹 Going through the motions of life can definitely be tough but I’m glad you’ve decided to set your goals and go back to school. Although it’ll be long and challenging at times. I believe you can do it! Good luck 😊
Laura! So happy I came across your channel! I am currently a vet student at the WCVM in Canada, just finished my 1st year! Also a non-traditional student, and actually was an ICU nurse before going to vet school. Can totally relate to your journey and wish you the best of luck on getting into vet school! 😊 I’ve started a channel to document my journey through vet school as well if you’re interested.
Hi Chantal!! I’ve actually been following your channel for a few months now, as I was looking to see what the vet school experience is like. I found your story to be so unique and inspiring. Thank you so much 😊 Wishing you the best of luck on your remaining years in vet school!
vet tech student here! it was refreshing to see this current video on YT! im about to finish my program after two years of trying to finish this degree!! :') im doing my externship for ten weeks at a bluepearl ER/specialty center where I live
Great video, I’m about to start my last year in my Veterinary Technician program. I’m also Haitian and it’s refreshing to see other black women excelling and doing their thing in the vet med field. I’m one of 2 black girls in my whole program😭, hoping my last year is better than the first and trying to stay positive✨.
I'm a male in a very female dominated field. My cohort's top classmates was black. Race has nothing to do with it, she was just simply highly intelligent and skilled and is a great friend and mentor. It's a tough field to work in, but highly rewarding (and I don't mean monetary). Keep up the studying and pass the national exam as we need more awesome and enthuisastic licensed techs to help our Drs and patients!
I'm so happy that I found your channel! I'm starting tomorrow with work experience at a vet clinic and I'm so nervous but this video made me even more excited!
I’m starting at Pet ER in August, vet assistant, as a first timer in the ER setting!!! I’ve only been in GP for 1.5 years but my goal is ultimately to be in ER vet med.
The fact that youre working for VEG and keep doing it is an honor on its own. Heard about VEG in school it takes a big heart to love both animals and people. there are positions for everyone who want to better themselves and the life of pets. Allowing pet parents to come in and watch you work is an extra stress in a stressful environment
Hello, Laura! I'm a vet assistant at a local spay, neuter, and wellness clinic, but I would love to work my way up to emergency care one day. I wanted to thank you for your amazing video and ask whether you work part-time or full-time. I currently work part-time as school is my main focus, but for future reference, I'd love to know what you prefer. Keep up the great work! ❤
Love your channel, Laura! I was wondering if you could do a video on how to become a vet assistant, what the pay is like, etc? I've done a good amount of research on the field but I feel confused because so much of the info is contradictory or outdated. I'd actually love to pick your brain a bit about your journey, but I understand if you don't want to share a ton of personal info as well
Hi, thank you 😊 I actually have a Q&A video posted that’s tailored to some of your questions. But to answer your question, my veterinary assistant journey started a few years ago as a receptionist at a general practice. After two years, I was able to obtain a job as a vet assistant/technician at another animal Hospital where I was able to get a lot of hands and experience. I stayed there for about a year until I decided to apply to Veg as an ER vet assistant. I believe for my other positions, I use LinkedIn as a source of applying. But when applying to VEG, I did apply using their Veg website. As for the pay, it very much ranges on how much experience you have. But I would say maybe about $20+. It could be less or more depending on your location. I hope this helps! 🫶🏾
Hey Laura! I’m looking into transitioning from GP to ER. I’ve been a vet assistant for 3 years and planning to become a veterinarian as well! Any tips? Also love to see content from individuals like us in the field 💕
Hi Bri! Any tips for transitioning from GP to ER, I would say is to be prepared for much longer shifts, faster pace, and busy/chaotic days. But if you have a love for it, you’ll be just fine! Good luck on your journey to becoming a Vet and thank you for watching 😊
i dont mean to be repetitive but im a current vet student getting my AA first and then my bachelors. i want to know if you were able to find any jobs during your schooling to get some experience. every time i try they deny me😭 it might be bc i am still in school..? idk
Oh no worries! Although it did take alot of tries, I was able to find work in the vetmed field while still completing my bachelors degree. I started off as a receptionist at a general practice for about two years before I got a chance to get some hands-on experience. I don’t think being in school would necessarily be a reason for them to deny you. But I think nowadays, alot of employers are looking for people with experience. So I’d advise you to try volunteering at animal shelters, doggy daycare or your local zoo or farm just to get your feet wet; so that they can see on resume that you’ve had experience dealing with animals. Hope that was helpful! 😊
i just found your channel during my research on focusing on becoming a vet, i currently major in psychology. i’m still a undergrad, so still in prereqs, i jus wanted to know what major is best to do while doing pre-vet curriculum
Hi, technically, you can major in anything so long as you complete your prerequisites. But it might be easier to complete all your prerequisites if you’re in a science related major. Since most of the prerequisites consist of biology, chemistry, physics, biochemistry, etc. Hope that was helpful!
Hi, so the patient presented for urinating outside of his litter box and having bloody urine. The radiograph showed that there was no stones present. Ultimately, the patient was diagnosed with being FLUTD (feline lower urinary track disease).
is your hospital open 24hrs? I love this video so much :) I’m thinking of becoming a vet tech. I’ve been in the medical field for like 8 years now, i work at the ER as patient registration. it’s OK i don’t really have issues with my role ,it’s tough like any other job out there , i earn a great living out of it . However I’ve always loved animals and see myself providing care to them long term. I’m hoping to start school this fall or if not by early January next year 😊 I think right now i want to volunteer at a shelter so i can gain some experience and see how it is daily
Thank you so much for the love ♥️ Yes, we are open 24 hours. I think volunteering at a shelter is a great start so you can get an idea of what it feels like to work in the vet field. Good luck in vet tech school!!
hi! im currently in veternary technician school now and was wondering what your pay was? i know it varies by state but I wanted a general realistic number!
I believe for emergency specifically (at my hospital), vet tech with no background education start off at $25. But with background education, I think it’s much higher. Not sure of the exact number. Hope that was helpful!
Hii! Do you think it's possible to be a vet tech and a nurse at the same time?? I am interested in nursing because of the job prospects but I also have a passion for animal care and working at a zoo part-time once I'm a nurse. Do you think it would be achievable? Also, I'm wishing you best on your journey to being a vet!!☺
Thank you so much!! I am a big believer that anything is possible. So if that is something you are interested in then I definitely think it’s feasible. Both fields are very taxing, so although it may not be easy I’m sure it’s possible!
I think it all depends on what you’re looking for. ER is very fast paced and can be chaotic at time but I think you can get great exposure there! Whereas general practice is a slower pace and very routine.
Thank you so much for posting this, we need more videos like this especially of black women and HAITIAN women (I’m Haitian too) and their journey to becoming a veterinarian. I’m rooting and wishing you a successful journey! 💕
