I was coming down with a cold the other night when I recorded all the dialog, sorry if I sound gross. 😅What do you guys think? What other classic handheld shells would you like to see parts made for?
Insane amount of work... Much easier and cheaper to just pay someone with experience and a confident hand to do it for you. Well worth the $100 people charge for this.
I don't agree that you should hold down that little sound chip with tweezers when you hit it with hot air. (Looked like a QFN package.) Holding it down will prevent the flux and molten solder from correcting the placement. Instead set the hot air gun on it's lowest fan setting and be sure to hold the gun totally perpendicular to the chip and board, so that you don't blow the chip away. Start a few inches away and slowly over the gun nozzle towards the chip. When the solder melts you'll see the chip twist into alignment.
@Wermy, could you by chance release your modified STL file for the back buttons along with the button guide you printed up? I know galaxy is going to be releasing a handful of files, but there seem to be a few that you have made up that would benefit those of us who have obtained blank boards only (no shoulder button pcbs)
I second this, I just bought all the parts for the gaboze build and cannot find the back button bracket for the life of me. I've e-mailed several people in the community, joined forums and dischords just to find a stl and no luck. These seem to be near impossible to get.
Nice. You should have used LM18650 batteries instead of the Li-ION. LM18650 batteries are 3.7v like Li-ION and are the same size as AA batteries. That would allow for easy swapping of batteries if depleted and also make it easy to cut the power should you need too. You could wire them up in parallel for the 3.7v or just use one slot for running the system and the other as a backup battery holder.
@@konnorbowen5246 I don't know enough about the specific versions to actually answer that question. I'm good at soldering and I can flash OS's fairly easily so I don't mind it being complex, I'm just looking for a kit that I can make an R.Pi machine that looks like a gameboy advance.
Use the plug in black module from eBay, peel the black bit off and wire the 5v output to the input of the tp4056 or whatever charging circuit you are using
Can you help answer a question, I am building a Game Boy Zero right now and I’m confused about what gauge wire to use. I read anywhere from 22 - 32. I bought 26 and 28. 28 seems really thin. Any help would be great.
i would love to get such a pocket pi but it is hard to get all parts than its way more expensive than ownling the regular consoles ect. :D but it would be nice :D did see an PAL SNES controller with built in display and so on :D looked somewhat nice but i think the battery would be very short lifed
speaking of the mintypi v3. is there a place i can sign up for alerts to when the new pcb and screen come out for preorder or is it best to just check instagram? and not sure how good your relationsip is with galaxy but do you possibly know whn their stock will replenish for the picket pi fe boards?
Hi wermy I've been working on my mintypi for awhile now but whenever I boot it up, I can see the backlight slightly turn on, but not nearly to a full white which would reference that just not all contacts are soldered correctly. I have tried the bridging if grounds that you mentioned Helder came up with a long ways back for the issue but nothing seems to change just the slight bit of light that is coming through, any thoughts?
Hey, i highly doubt it, but i was wondering if it was even possible to put a raspberry pi in a retro mini shell? I have one, unfortunatly its unmodable, great feel with controls, just bad emulation
Hello wermy I got and idea for a great handheld project How about installing a rassbery pi in a wonderswan ? I think it will be amazing can you make a toturial about it
This may be a lame question because I don't really understand the software behind it, and the question is more about that, then this kit, but is it possible to great an ad-hoc wifi network with 2 of these and play 2 players games against each other? Talking more specifically GB/GBC games here... For some pokemon battle nostalgia.

Gameboy in a gameboy cartridge! 😬
nobble oddly Specific... 😉 it would only be good if it could fit into the cartridge slot... 🤣
@@mtb0x Ask and you shall receive. 😉
Just do them all please. A Game Gear, an Atari Lynx, A Gameboy SP. restorations and mods. I’d watch them too.
nobble #ChallengeAccepted 🤘
i must admit that flipping transition was pretty slick
Flippin' slick transitions!
I replayed it 20 times
I did not expect that transition at all. Had to rewatch to make sure I wasn't trippin.
Ikr so cool
Holy shit, I love those transitions
You had so much fun with those transitions didn't you ;D
Yes. Yes I did. 😁
Dude transitions at 0:13 were so cool!
I actually went back and re-watched them few times haha
Same! i really appreciate this kind of detail!
WTF !?? COOL !!!
Same

I don't know if we need another comment about the transitions
But man
Those transitions
Went ahead and subscribed. Came for the retro emulation machine video, stayed for those slammin' transitions!
Oh man, that flip cut really got me. That was very well done.
Always the best quality from wermy, thanks for doing what you do.
that flip effect is brilliant!
SUPERB EDITING SKILLS WHEN FLIPPING THOSE HANDHELDS!!!!!

Thanks for leaving the tip
dude the flippin'gameboy transition was fire
I reccomend fluxing the ribbon and dragging your well tinned tip all the way across it to get the best results
Awesome transitions between gameboy models!
Good to see you getting in front of the camera from time to time :)
I looked at these boards a while ago. Looks like a great build, may have to do one for my next build. Great vid and love the transitions.
that transition effect is awesome 😱
Wermy is a magician! I love the setup, nice and easy to follow!
brother your seriously a legend keep up the great work
Awesome job Wermy! Keep up the great work!
Great staff for someone who don't know what to do with money from TH-cam

Pretty awesome, I'd gladly buy a pre-built one, thanks!
Those transitions though omg DOPE!
Enable the watchdog on the pi, it'll reset it in the event of a lock up 👍
you make it look easy
Dear god this is amazing. You, sir, are awesome.
I subscribed as soon as he did the flip
Awsome video! Can't wait to see more.
Quality channel Wermy
Great video! Would love to see a wireless NES zapper!
Oh man those transitions were lit
Dem transitions though! Awesome to see one giveaway c:
I love the idea, but I think I would want more buttons.

Ryan D 18650 is much larger than a AA, I think you’re thinking of 14500. But the Game Boy Pocket takes AAA anyway. :)
@@wermy Woops, my mistake. Yeah the 14500.
These lipos are a good option because of the size and capacity
This is spectacular. Incredibly high quality work. May I ask, where do you get your tiny buttons and switches? Ebay?
AliExpress or eBay yeah
Where can we find those 3D printed button wells and rear brackets? Or stls?
Will be uploaded to galaxygaming.co.uk soon
I like your editing!
would be fun to add here some wifi or lte module and play triple A titles with this thing through Parsec or any other cloud gaming platform
Do a GBA SP! I'd like to see a Pi A+ go into it.
How come the link to the kit isnt working?
Famicom buttons= greatness
Is it possible to use a larger screen on this? One closer to the regular gameboy mod?
Probably, not with this board though as it has the footprint for the ili 9342 screen
Are there any kits in the gameboy advance style? That was by far my favourite console from the company, and I can't seem to find one anywhere.
Free play tech, zero or cm3 versions

I’m new to soldering and I was just wondering what’s a good temperature the iron should be and what kind of wire to use
300 degrees c is a good point for the iron, use 63/37 solder wire with a rosin core
I need this but with only the original two buttons
You can get that, order the kit and email galaxygaming666@gmail.com and ask for a 2 button kit or build
Will the minty pi have the option to be ordered pre built?
Screen quality looks great
Man those flush cutters must be awesome. Whenever I snip the headers the piece flys off at 100mph.
Wow, that’s really cool!
Woooo! Excellent video? In your opinion, how does this stack up against something like the Gaboze pocaio?
Love your Work man
Great tutorial, excited to build mine! Where can I get a parts list for the build, nothing on Galaxy Gaming??
What kind of retro pie are you using. The menu look so cool!
This is exactly what I was looking for :D
Have you ever considered making a Pi powered Gameboy Advance like the freeplay?
I have a couple of Game Boy Colours, you gonna do a video on how to improve those?
you should do a soldering crash course
Look at abrugsch soldering guide
Just chiming in to say those flips at the beginning are slick as hell!
Please make a tutorial on how to make the raspberry pi have wireless charging.
Use the plug in black module from eBay, peel the black bit off and wire the 5v output to the input of the tp4056 or whatever charging circuit you are using
this is really cool. great video!

28 for signals and 26 for power

Nice work on the soldering video part +1
Awesome video :) do you know if there is a way to add a mini hdmi output on this?

Can you stream this to the big tv or a firestick even?
Where could someone buy those little magnets to keep the cartridge in place? I'd love to have those for a GBZ build
Trasitions are on point
Where can we get the file for the rear buttons that you did for it? I didn't see it on Sudomod
Where do you buy this?

I have a spare raspberry pi zero what do I need to purchase to get something like this going????
How did you manage to get those flip transitions so smooth? Looks awesome!
is there something with more performance that can be used? pi zero feels so slugish :(

Does anyone have more info on that circuit board that does the graceful shutdown?
Pololu mini MOSFET switch
Would really love to buy and make one of these! But seems the project has been abandoned in it’s entirety. :(
im not good at this kinda stuff and i dont have the resources to do it and wandering if i could buy a mintypi insides prebuilt
Sudomod.com buy sell
Does anyone have the written build guide for this. My order took for ever to arrive and as it finally arrived the webpage is not longer online.
