As a mandarin user that last bit cracks me up real good, back in primary school (7 - 12) for 6 years we were still learning new Chinese characters and when we were secondary school (13 - 17) we still come across Chinese characters that still means something different (even the stroke of the Chinese character seems alike or the same) Imagine writing a Chinese essay, man those days in primary school couldn't write a line without the need to check the dictionary for some characters.
I always admired Trevor Noah before he started working at the daily show. I have always loved this part of his "African American" presentation and it finally is on TH-cam!! As a Spanish-speaking English teacher it helps me a lot when I teach my students English because they get when I talk about mouth placement and head voice, chest voice etc.

Exactly. For me, the influence of using English made me not want to learn more about Chinese itself, and the common thinking of "I know enough Chinese words to get me by" is probably why I am very bad at it. Most of the things are now in English, so it is really hard to speak Chinese more than English.

Credit is simple. Let me give you my opinion. The Biggest things are to have a mix, i.e.revolving (credit cards), installments (auto loans), and mortgage, but also a good length of credit history and on-time payments to your creditors. The length of your credit history is a very big factor. The last big factor is to have an acceptable credit utilization ratio, typically 30% or less on any revolving account, e.g. credit cards. You want your debt-to-income ratio as low as possible as well. You can add or drop hundreds of points in a short time just off your credit utilization ratio, all other things remaining the same. Most of the free credit scores that are available are not fair-Isaac’s corporation, i.e. FICO. But they will be close approximations. So they can be useful. In my experience your FICO credit score will be a bit lower than what the educational models indicate (e.g. credit karma). If you pay cash, you can’t build credit. Have no credit? Get a secured credit card. Within 6-12 months you will qualify for a regular credit card. Some banks offer loans that assist with this endeavor. My credit history began when I took out student loans. Don’t ever cancel a credit card unless you never use it and it charges an annual fee, otherwise you will reduce you average age of accounts (which lowers your score). Another thing, it is usally not worth your wiles to EVER take out a department store credit card. How the heck did he manage to pull of a perfect American attempts to speak Chinese accent. I wouldn't be surprised if he turned out to be the one foreigner that could speak Chinese perfectly
he's very sensitive to intonation probably because his diverse upbringing. if you ever meet someone that was born, raised, and almost never left their hometown and try to teach them any accent it is about as frustrating as trying to teach a cat tricks, but if you instead find bilinguals or people who often hear many types of accents in their home town, or someone who lived a long time in two places each with very distinct or different dialects, you'll find that they can not only understand non American accent English about 100x easier, they will get often very close to proper pronunciation in any new accent or language on their first attempt vs one accent person who will never roll an r even after 100 tries. I once had a chemistry professor from Columbia and everyone's snickering like hahaha can't understand a fucking thing he's saying and I'm dumbfounded like yeah, his accent is heavy but it's not that fucking hard, you can clearly tell every word he's saying in perfect grammar just with an accent. it was watching ignorance try to belittle someone who could speak magnitudes of more eloquent English but the takeaway point is those students truly couldn't understand him, and I had no problem even though that was probably the first Colombian accent I ever heard more than maybe some tv or one time acquaintances

I came the US to buy a car that had not come in Europe and had exactly the same problem as Trevor with the salesman, he had no idea how to sell a car and only knew about leasing or financing. I had come with cash as I didn't have a US bank account and my credit card limit was below the price of the car. He told me the sale would not be possible. Finally, it was the owner of the dealership who said they would sell it to me and gladly accepted my cash payment.

10,000 characters is just for a basic vocabulary, to be more college educated it's more like 20,000 characters & there's more than that in existence.
Characters in Chinese are largely associated with each other and they can be differentiated by the strokes on their side.

How the heck did he manage to pull of a perfect American attempts to speak Chinese accent. I wouldn't be surprised if he turned out to be the one foreigner that could speak Chinese perfectly
he's very sensitive to intonation probably because his diverse upbringing. if you ever meet someone that was born, raised, and almost never left their hometown and try to teach them any accent it is about as frustrating as trying to teach a cat tricks, but if you instead find bilinguals or people who often hear many types of accents in their home town, or someone who lived a long time in two places each with very distinct or different dialects, you'll find that they can not only understand non American accent English about 100x easier, they will get often very close to proper pronunciation in any new accent or language on their first attempt vs one accent person who will never roll an r even after 100 tries. I once had a chemistry professor from Columbia and everyone's snickering like hahaha can't understand a fucking thing he's saying and I'm dumbfounded like yeah, his accent is heavy but it's not that fucking hard, you can clearly tell every word he's saying in perfect grammar just with an accent. it was watching ignorance try to belittle someone who could speak magnitudes of more eloquent English but the takeaway point is those students truly couldn't understand him, and I had no problem even though that was probably the first Colombian accent I ever heard more than maybe some tv or one time acquaintances
Trevor Noah is infectious and there is no cure for him. The mistake we made was to watch just one of his comedy, then boom! you are addicted!

Hahah it’s so true that Chinese is the most difficult language, I still remember how almost every class we had in pre school and elementary school were all basically language learning, grammar and writing, up until like middle school. I can’t image how hard it is for foreigners, good luck!

I came the US to buy a car that had not come in Europe and had exactly the same problem as Trevor with the salesman, he had no idea how to sell a car and only knew about leasing or financing. I had come with cash as I didn't have a US bank account and my credit card limit was below the price of the car. He told me the sale would not be possible. Finally, it was the owner of the dealership who said they would sell it to me and gladly accepted my cash payment.
