some of us do, I did a few digs different parts of Africa, and it differs greatly. while I was there saw one of the most beautifully advanced cities I've ever seen with architecture that would blow your mind! a lot of times people who are shown on the shows that Trevor was talking about our people who have decided to stay with a tribal way of life. some of these people that they use aren't even starving they just live outdoors more, in a hut so Americans assume they don't have enough. not to say there aren't those in need but those exist everywhere. more so if people are that determined to help people in Africa they would probably be better off sending mosquito Nets! ( although there are definitely places around the world that could use them more )

The sad thing about it is, they teach children that all of Africa looks like those ads. The first time I found out that Africa doesn't look like that everywhere was when I did a project on Kenya in 6th grade and saw urban cities. I felt really bad about it too.

Im gonna be honest im a somali kid living in the uk 16 yrs old, when i was 11 i going to somalia to visit my relatives i thought the country would like those ads they show on tv, i thought they dont have toilets at all but when me and my family came there it was different,there were alot of friendly people,there were alot of traffic everyday the market was full of traditional food i and my family really enjoyed our time there.

I'm an Indian and I'm glad to know that even Africans feel annoyed when West always portrays the developing countries as they want to portray. At times it's like they don't even try. How they make Indian videos is very simple,
1)Show the slum(it's either in Mumbai or Old Delhi)
2)Showcase some unhygienic street food vendor.
3)Show a few kids playing Cricket.
4)Add some shitty cliché Indian music

They do it to emotiomally manipulate the audience. It is very obvious & terrible. On the other hand, if they don't showcase the poverty then most would not be quite so willing to hand over huge portions of government sponsored aid (from collected taxes) or charitable donations which we can never be sure doesn't go in the acccount of the corrupt before it goes to people who need it.

I am an African child and we had a teacher who punished everybody for the mistake of one student!! It wasn't an Oprah School😂. Reflecting on that as a grown up I realise he was just a sadist bully & deranged man. He even used to foam at the mouth as he beat us all 🤮. One day my teenage cousin had enough of taking unwarranted beatings, mind you he wasn't academically interested or talented as his interest lay elsewhere😁. Anyway one late evening, as the mad teacher came to hit him my cousin grabbed the whip, hit the teacher with it following that with several hard punches, knocked the teacher down, to a classroom applause as we all ran out. My cousin was expelled, we did continue to get class retention punishments but no more beatings. My cousin gleefully started a family!! To this day I thank his guts by standing up to that vicious teacher who happened to be my uncle as well 😂😂😂😂

I went to Zambia and part of my visit was out into the villages in the bush. I can’t say that anyone was starving there, but what was shocking was how little people had. I am glad that Trevor was able to live a privileged life in South Africa. It’s still remains the fact that the poorest Americans have access to clean surroundings, basic education, too much food, constant entertainment, and so forth. The rural poor in Africa and elsewhere have none of these things. Don’t fool yourself.

Whats the point of bringing that up when theres places like nigeria.. I can gurantee you Lagos is better than Compton, South side Chicago and all the other ghettos of america I've lived in

This was brilliant. Believe me it's not just Africa that has an incorrect image problem in America. They don't know anything about Australia too. Considering a large majority of Americans don't have a passport they really have no idea about the world outside of their country. I am so glad Trevor Noah can portray this in such a hilarious way.
I'm Canadian. In my various jobs in life, I've met thousands of Americans. The vast majority of them, and I mean upper 90% by that, are drooling morons who believe some of the most idiotic crap I've ever heard someone try to tell me is "true" about my own country, let alone other nations. I Trevor, Love you for denouncing the AID industry and the so called ambassadors for the African poor. I lived 5 years in Mozambique and did 3 years in a bush hospital at Inhambane and 2 years in a Germany government AIDS Project. My son is born in Nelspruit and we both are proud that being born there he has the South African birth right. Yes Mozambique was the second poorest country in the world when I went there and after the huge privatization policies , many African countries where forced into by the world bank and other so called donors, not really very mich changed. Sometimes I write a comment on facebook about a particularly greedy and Western centered NGOs, I get a lot of criticism that I am heartless. But the AID business is one of the most moral questionable industries in the world. As far as Un organizations , world bank etc is concerned thy simply buy parts of government to force them to do their biding. The money lands in the politicians ban account and the country has to pay for debts people never benefited from. Its only worse when it coes to NGOs, specially Pentecostal NGOs.not matter whether they are regional, national or international like for example world vision. They simply go from one catastrophe to the other and off course being christian and withe know everything better, then the coordinated and with big donors coordinates local response. They simply do what they like and in disaster areas make things worse, because all those missionaries need houses and food, and they off course cannot live in huts, so prices for food and places to stay go up in those disaster stricken regions. As soon as somewhere else there is a disaster they forget about the last and go there. Every time making millions showing the picture with the brainwashed fly. The people of Africa deserve better , then some postcolonial, patronizing charity. They deserve an equal share of the riches extracted by mining companies and other fro their countries. African statesmen deserve to be treated as adults and not as some unruly children the West has to save, becaue of the corruption there etc. As if we do not have corruption in the West. And yes I agree with you, that Trump seems very much like Bocassa or Idi Amin. But I also heard African leaders, or their wifes, like in the case of Mandela ( I do mean his third wife Grace Machel). There are African leaders whom I admire for their integrity and strength to stand up for their people against the postcolonial exploitation system, which tries to tell us Africa needs Charity. Africa and this is true for most African countries. African nations deserve respect , fairness and justice, not charities, who show you starving kids all over, to give you the feeling, if o give them 20 bucks amonth you are one of the good guys. You probably do better if you give the same money to the next homeless pperson you see in your city instead of enriching NGos and make publicity stunts for celebrities from Oprah to Madonna.

I'm half South African, my mother was a member of the ANC's Youth League at the age of twelve and used to carry messages in her lunch box between key members of the ANC who were underground. She was born and grew up in District Six, Cape Town, and learnt to fight injustice while very young. The results of those misadventures are clear to see. If our people did not have a sense of resilience, bolstered by humour, we would have to succumb to the patronizing and inhuman way we have been treated by those who think they know best but can't understand the South African national anthem! Amen!
South Africa has roads, buildings and they drink beer like everyone else. I wouldn't know though, never been there.
