No joke man, I think I may have seen this video like 10 times, I've watched so much of your FF content! This is my favourite game and I love your enthusiasm for the game too! You have probably heard this before but I would love to hear your rundown from a few of the best Final Fantasy music pieces. I love our work man, shame there isn't much more for you to add until (fingers crossed) one day me may receive FFX-3. Whats your opinion on the FFX Audio tape? Keep up the good work bro, Love your work.
Incredible content man, much appreciated. Only criticism is stop saying "obviously" every few sentences. It must've been said almost 100 times and not a single time was it about something obvious. Kinda annoying :P
Hey, am I the only one who couldn’t help but compare events in FF3 with the 1000 years prior backstory for FFx? I suspect Unei to be a nickname of Yunalesca’s
The Fourth Captain maybe they bring x-3 i know maybe it gonna ruin everything but the audio drama blowing my mind, i want to know what gonna happen to tidus and yuna i dont want they break up this is sad
***** but what new story elements could it possibly add? Nothing. We already know all the key events of braskas pilgrimage. I mean you'd get to see trivial things like how jecht or auron behaved in certain environments, but nothing that would ever warrant making a new game
played this game as a kid and had no idea wtf was going on in the story, I thought it did revolve around time traveling back then and of course, being a lil kid and all, I was more focused on the whole "Omg pretty cutscenes!" and just enjoying learning how to use a controller and be awed by the graphics (since they were really good at the time). Years later, I never really knew what FFX was about plotwise and now I just realize... man, final fantasy X is probably one of the saddest games ever, emotionally speaking :(
The game just came out on Playstation Now so I decided to play it for the first time since I first played it almost 20 years ago. Man, this game's just so good. Loved it then and love it now. Think I appreciate it a lot more now than I did back then, though, in terms of the storyline.
It the only game to ever make me tear up. That ending was so tragic... you know it's coming, but I held out right to the very end that some miracle could save Tidus but sadly no.
My understanding of the lore is that Yunalesca (unsent) went to Bevelle and bartered with them. In exchange for the knowledge of the Final Summoning, they had to honor her father as he once was, not as the being inside of Sin. So, the religion of Yevon was created to honor him. Which is why the "Hymn of the Fayth" is actually a Zanarkand patriotic song, which the military of Zanarkand sang in battle with Bevelle, in honor of their leader.
It tells you in the game the reason Bevelle took the Zanarkand song was as a “if you can’t beat them, join them method.” Bevelle wanted to take credit for the song to make it look like Zanarkand wasn’t singing it in defiance towards them in the Machina War.
nope. Actually, Yunalesca didn't really know about Yevon religion before her death. Someone in Bevelle created that religion follow anything happened ( Yu Yevon, Sin, Yunalesca story). Many centuries after, she-Unsent-knew about Yevon religion thank to these High Summoner who she met at Zanakarnd. She finally followed Yevon religion because its teaching really fix with her idea. So, she actually just the hero who sacrificed herself and her lover to defeat Sin, as same as other High Summoner. My theory is Yunalesca is very famous during her period. Or may be the unknown Bevelle guy who created Yevon religion is her friend, or at least, met her several times before her death. He/she so favour Yunalesca that added her in the Yevon religion.
@Miguel Bustamante actually. I just the rumour. after that, Square release some artbooks and source materials,... From what I read, she actually doesn't even know about Yevon religion. She learned about it through these High Summoner, and finally worships it.
@@yevonsama that doesn't make any sense in the context of the story. Oftentimes later material comes out which doesn't quite fit the canon which may have been a more self-contained story. Mika knew about Yu Yevon, what Sin really is (his armor), and Yunalesca's method to temporarily subdue it. As far as he knew it was the only way. There had to be more communication/contact with her. There is a saying that Rome conquered Greece, but Greece conquered Rome. One in terms of military, the other in culture. I agree with OP that Yunalesca offered Bevelle a truce. Eschew use of machina (mostly) and create a culture/religion around her father and fallen home. Then she gave them *magical* (the old ways) arsenal to hurt Sin but it could never fully eliminate it. That ensured her old culture would forever dominate. I still wonder if Yunalesca was complicit with her father's plans to summon Dream Zanarkand and create Sin. If so, it made herself and her husband into martyrs.
@@burger_kinghorn " that doesn't make any sense in the context of the story. Oftentimes later material comes out which doesn't quite fit the canon which may have been a more self-contained story." I agree. But the part about Yunalesca doesnt opposite the story at all. Mika knows about Yu Yevon and Yunalesca's method dont mean Lesca has any agreement or contact to Yevon religion. She maybe tell to Spiral people something like " Summoners, go to Zanarkand, to take Final Aeon." and it is enough. We can see she only lives in Zanarkand. It isnt what someone who starving of power will do ( look at Seymour and Mika). After Machina War, everyone see how machine will destroy their world. It isnt need Yunalesca to ask them to blame it. It as same as everyone hate Nazi and IJA after WW2. And Yevon religion actually is Bevelle ( who famous about their machina during the war). They convert themselves to that religion, while still practice and hide their machina under their basement, remember? Even if Yunalesca wants, she doesnt have anything to stop them from practicing their machina. And even if Bevelle doesnt convert, summoners still go to Zanarkand to receive Final Aeon, and Bevelle power will reduce. = > Why not join with everyone to favor Yunalesca, while still hold machine under your storage?
Bahmute explained to Tidus that when Ject and Tidus was touch by Sin they became more then just a dream. Also Tidus was able to see his mother in the farplane, this shows that even though they are dream, the people of Dream Zanarkand are not just a dream or illusions they have a soul.
Law Nocturn I always wondered why Tidus was able to see his mother at the farplane unless their souls were real or something? My guess is that Tidus and Jecht became more like real humans that could manifest themselves on Spira once they rode Sin there. Because the fayth’s had the power to do so. Only those made up from pyreflies can enter or leave and Sin sort of acts as a gatekeeper of that world (Dream Zanarkand) Great, I answered one question but my next question now is: What count’s as a soul? A being who can speak, think and act? As to why the dreams of Zanarkand can rest in piece at the farplane. Maybe because DZ (Dream Zanarkand) is still a thing that was created by the fayth’s in Spira? Now I am just rambling but it’s fun to come up with theories. ^^
Rikku explains before u walk into the farplane that the pyreflies react to people's memories of the dead, that they aren't actually their dead relatives' souls.
Fun fact; Yuna never says "I love you" at the end of the game in the Japanese release. She says "thankyou". That line was replaced with "I love you" in the english release.
@@stevencraeynest7729 Well the motives were to preserve their beloved city that was about to be wiped out. Imagine being all powerful ruler of city of that magnitude, no wonder Yevon turned into summoning it after realizing it can not be saved.
@@DonPrecedensi mean yeah, but then he kind of started being an asshole with it and killing any humans that used a lot of machina regardless of their intention...
@@iateyursandwiches very late reply, but there's a difference between yu yevon and the religion, same name different agendas. they are not one or the same.
Every few weeks, I come back to your videos like these just to dwell in nostalgy and memories about the great times I have had in my childhood with this game. Such a well-made story and all-around game, I wish Square Enix would have a genius idea and make a game up to this scale once again.
@@NicolaAcoust rember when the ps3 and 4 and 5 came out? No new game like FFX every time so there being a new console coming out obviously has nothing to do with it
I played this game when i was a kid like 14 years old , i barely made it through the story , there were a lot of things i did not understand but i loved it so much that years went by and i continued to listen to ffx music from time to time. Now i am 22 years old and i found some time to play the remastered ffx and stumbled upon this awesome channel and awesome video , a lot of my night sleep questions are answered by this video , thank you so much dear friend i highly appreciate it. I thought some questions were never gonna be answered about this game s story but this video took care of that , thank you and the japanese translator :)
Same mate, I was 14 when I played FFX, used to come home and binge play after a hard day of summer school PE classes, that was way back in 2003. Good times
I was always under the impression that Tidus was just a variant of Shuyin. There were big differences between the Dream Zanarkand and the Zanarkand that actually existed 1000 years ago. It's reasonable to assume that some of those differences weren't exactly intentional. Like the Fayth that dreamt everything up just couldn't get everything exactly the way it was. Therefore, Shuyin was born as a Blitzball player named Tidus. Other differences such as the building in the center being a blitzdome rather than a shrine that I assume was used for summoning purposes were most likely intentional. Another fact that lends credit to this is the non-existence of summoning in Dream Zanarkand. If it was a carbon copy of the actual Zanarkand, Tidus would've had a deep knowledge of summoning.
Wow this is mind bogglingly incredible. I was always confused w/ the whole Zanarkand/Time aspect of the plot, and this cleared everything up on the most fantastic way possible.
Yeah, he cleared up one misconception but planted several others in its place. I can't even, I'd need to write a small novel to hit all the corrections needed.
It was an intentional misdirection by the writers. A coincidence that Sin destroyed both the real Zanarkand and the Dream Zanarkand. Yu Yevon's mind was occupied with summoning DZ so Sin was created as a sort of magical WMD of revenge with only basic AI to destroy big machina. According to Maechen, it destroyed Bevelle's invading army but the real Zanarkand too. Sin attacking DZ never made sense if it's supposed to be its guard dog/whale. I guess it's only if Jecht had enough willpower to direct Sin there.
This is great, well done. So many people don't understand that Dream Zanarkand where you start the game physically exists in some remote part of Spira and there's no actual time travel involved. In fairness this is really hard to deduce using the story told in the game itself, since it does spend a good 20 hours pounding "1000 years ago" into your head. Thank you for the video.
Lex It exists near Baaj Temple which is where Tidus ends up near the start of the game. Dream Zanarkand/Tidus are basically aeons like Valefor, Bahamut etc.. just summoned on a much grander scale with alot more fayth being used.
@xheralt ok all clear as it is by almost 20 years now... but, how jecht came outside the dream zanarkand?? it said he met sin when he adrift and disappered in the zanarkand sea... but dream zanarkand is itself an invocation existing inside Sin itself... so how and mostly why Jecht met Sin and went to Spira? (With all information we got from games and interviews we know Jecht and tidus borned in the Dream Zanarkand itself, they're like Aeon's sons)
@@filippoclozza22 Since Dream Zanarkand is inside of Sin itself then it could possibly stand to reason that going deep enough into the "sea" would have him end up touching Sin since the "sea" is only so deep. Alternatively something about Jecht sinking into the "sea" or other extraneous factors lead to him breaking out/ slipping out of Dream Zanarkand accidentally which then sets in motion the recent events leading up to Tidus being broken out o Dream Zanarkand as well & his destiny to end the Sin cycle.
If dream zanarkand existed inside sin jecht would have easily meet with tidus, what you re saying makes no sense, yes there is copy of zanarkand inside sin, but it's not our dream zanarkand. Our dream zanarkand has a physical place in the world, the guy of the video even says that he read the ultimania which is the ultimate source of lore of the final fantasy franchise, and people are still debating this for Christ sakes
It turned out quite good Dan. Great job! Now I know where to send anybody that is confused about the FFX universe. This, coupled with your 133 part play through, is probably the definitive source of FFX knowledge ever created apart from the Ultimania. I almost wish I had it all on Blu-Ray.
That's why I love jRPGs. It's not a single story. It's not a plain, simple playthrough. There's an entire world built around this. Every location has a history every person has a past, everything has a reason. Compare it to any game even the best ones and it's like comparing Flan to a fucking Anima. It works such beautifully as a whole that there aren't really many games that come this close to Final Fantasy series in case of story and historical landscape.
Watching this realizing the whole story is really based on everyone dealing with the inevitability of death, and the willingness to love the people around them knowing they will lose them
Death is the central theme of FFX. You can even go deeper: Auron is dead. Yuna, at the start of the game, was accepting to die to save many lives. At the end, she refuses to and try to find another solution. Tidus has the exact opposite character progression. Wakka refuses to accept his brother's death. Lulu accepted it but refuses to move one. Rikku (and the Al Bhed in general) are fighting again a death cult, the Church of Yevon. Seymour wants to become the God of Death. Sin is seen as an incarnation of Death. And there are many more lore/story elements about death. The unsents, the pyreflies, etc. And the whole moral seems to be "fight death as hard as you can, but don't fear it and accept the inevitability of death when it comes. Cheerish the livings but remember the deads and carry their memories". This is a typical eastern philosophy, finding the "middle" ground.
I can't thank you enough for this effort! And the effort you made in your other videos as well!!!!! This game changed everything and I still would play it just for nostalgia, but I got older and times changed, so all I mostly have for now is my memory and your videos. So thank you!!!!
This video has made Final Fantasy X even more beautiful in my eyes than ever. Potholes or not, just having a jist of an understanding of a few more things makes me re-experience this treasure of a game in a bigger light. Plus you've explained it better than anyone else on youtube- i even shed a tear haha. Thank you so much for this ♥
This video....this one video has instantly made me subscribe to your channel, not just for the fact that you seem to love FFX as much as i do (my fave in the series, closely followed by 8 and 7) but because you've done a great job of lining up the timeline of the games backstory and gone into things i never knew about or even expected, i think even the few things left for speculation were bang on or at the very least sound the most plausible so thanks man and keep the good work up :P
+ViciousArcanum You missed the part where he said mostly all this was done by another person, he was for the most part following a translation someone else had done from a japanese game guide. Ltr, ltpa.
Dansg thanks man. I waited for such a video for a long time. It's amazing. About five minutes in i already added it to my favorites and liked it (would've liked thousands of times but well youtube says i only got one thumb). I'd like to see you covering the characters back storys, would love to know more about lulu and auron cuz they are amazing characters. Keep up the work man and have fun doing it. Also good luck in turkey just saw it in the last hangout that you moved.
this is a great video! I miss this game alot. I almost started to tear up when the ending was playing in the background lol idk exactly what.it was really, but this game was the first time that I had ever cried from the story of a game way back when I first played it on ps2. No other final fantasy has ever even had me close to crying, I guess cuz I ended up playing FF7 well into the ps3/X360 era so I already knew about "that death" cant wait to see ur FF15 playthrough :D
Damn I've played through this game probably 3 times and thought I had a pretty firm understanding of the timeline but you cleared a lot of things up and blew my mind thanks!
Really nice vid! My brother and I always debated about the story of FFX for around 9 years now. Although I knew the basics, it was confusing as to how all the events presented in the game occured and why they were important. I played it through 5-6 times so it is incredible how much one can still continue to learn! Hopefully, I will be able to truly grasp every detail next time I play it on the ps4 version. Once again great job and I will be looking forward to new videos!!
Phenomenal job! I genuinely enjoy listening to your commentary because not only is it incredibly informative, but it was also very interesting. I know there are many people who are lazy (myself included) who enjoy concise synopses and learning new information about video games. Perhaps in the future you could expand by including FFX character bios? Again, thank you for taking the time to create this- as well as all the other walkthroughs. Best wishes and continued success, Dansg08.
Thank you very much for the video! I didnt see this side of the FFX story. It makes alot of sense and it really is insightful. SUBBED! Look forward to more content :)
I've been playing this game for over 15 years... it's shaped my childhood and there have always been questions and things I wondered about how the heck the whole time-line made any sense. I'm 28 now and you've enlightened me with some good information about this game. I've restarted it recently after a break of a few years and the questions came back. Thank you, I appreciate you.
Nice to see someone made a video out of this. I, for my part, knew all of this but this is very well made. It's more interesting to watch a video about something rather than just reading some guides or articles. If you do another one of these videos, would you include some information that you get in FFX-2? Seriously, that game essentially gives really unexpected details about some characters that could very well be implemented.
You knew all of it? Damn, there was stuff in there that even I didn't know, you must have investigated the Ultimanias at some point. For example the idea that Zanarkand was the only city that had people capable of summoning/being turned into fayth was pretty interesting :)
dansg08 Thanks for this Timeline Video Dan, i love FFX-X2. I have both on ps2 and the HD Remaster on ps3 and played through them multiple times, the story is epic. there were afew things in this video that enlightened me, although i did know most of it.... but its nice to have a vid like this to watch.... ps, FFVII, VIII, X, X-2 are my favourites' and i have your movie marathons in my watch later, thanks again for all your hard work bud, these vids mean alot to me and alot of us... tc & l8rz
dansg08 Well I didn't spend all of my time on nothing :D I feel like I have read some of those exact sentences that you read out there too, quite literally so I am sure I stumbled across the Ultimania content myself. Well I know for a fact that I looked it up for some game mechanics but I must have checked some of the story parts as well.
dansg08 I like how you used the original soundtrack instead of the remastered soundtrack :) Also perfect usage of the incredibly beautiful original soundtrack, thank you, that makes it so much more awesome.
Man I played this game 15 years ago and now is the first time I realize, that dream zanarkand is an actual place in this world.. Thanks for clearing that up man!
It was an intentional misdirection by the writers. A coincidence that Sin destroyed both the real Zanarkand and the Dream Zanarkand. wow that just changed the game for me that was so help full i did always think he did time travel tthanks so much for clearing that up for me and keep up the great work man ill always support you every step of the way :)
thank you ! really thank you for this video, i was always so confused with the time line in FFX, i always thought there was timetravel involved but never got it together how it would really work but your explanations makes total sense, Thank you !!! FFX was my very first Final Fantasy and also my very first RPG, i still love it !!! But now i have too play it again :-D
Thanks for making this video, man. I love this game, and I've been playing it for 20 years. I'm always glad to watch content for it, and I'm disappointed it took me this long to find you video. My best wishes to you, man.
Thank you for the contribution man. I'm a working dude with a corporate job, rat-racing, but I remember the fun I had being part of this - I'll call it 'journey' of a game.
Every so often I refresh myself on this great story. The attention to detail is so incredible, it really is. It touches practically every emotion, and it feels like an incredible journey. And the creativity that's gone into creating the world itself is amazing. Think of all the fictional construct and ideas that've come together to create Spira. All this backstory that sprang from nothing, and yet now exists in such a glorious form.
@@thalesatreides9566 The dialogue sort of treats "Sin" like it's two different objects: there's the "unholy armor" that is Sin, or Yu Yevon's shell, and there is the aeon that is possessed by Yu Yevon (meaning Jecht becomes Sin). For all intents and purposes, the great beast of a shell is Sin. But the fayth/aeon that "becomes" Sin only really becomes Sin's core. In other words, the outer appearance remains the same, while the inner core varies with possessed aeon.
How is it that Jecht was able to serve as the fayth for Braska's final aeon? If Jecht himself was a result of Yu Yevon's summoning of dream Zanarkand, and thus wasn't a "person" with a "soul" to sacrifice, doesn't this get to be like some aeon-within-an-aeon, or "aeonception" type craziness? I have no desire to punch a hole in anyone's theory, but I'm playing through again while trying to keep the theories in mind, and it's details like this that makes it so hard to wrap my head around some of this.
Peter Metzger that's actually a good question! Supposedly when Jecht was training out at sea and touched Sin he somehow became apart of reality. But then Tidus came into contact with Sin as well and is as far as I understand, a dream. There's a lot of continuity errors that really don't make sense when you really think about it but I still love this game.
Physdelicdreaming right?! Thank you for confirming my suspicions... sometimes I wish I could go back to the simpler times, when I thought that Tidus just time-traveled. It was way easier to accept and hurt my brain less. Lol
(sepculation ahead) I think it's that fact (that jecht isn't a "real" person) that derails the Sin loop and allows the party to definitely deafeat yu yevon. Jecht turns out to be a mock final aeon that yu yevon cant possess fully BECAUSE he is yu yevon's aeon already. All the others final aeons were built with human souls independent of yu yevon. (as i write this, even if doesnt make sense, its blowing my mind XD)
I'd assume him not being from Spira and only a dream is why Sin is vulnerable. I don't see how they could have defeated any previous sins without it having some weakness like that.
This guy is the Vaatividya of FFX. I am playing the remastered for the 4th time in 15 years, and using his walkthrough I’m learning things like it’s my first play through. And now this video... I’m happy I find you mate, TH-cam algorithm is underrated.
That was brilliant! Thank you for such an informative video! This has cleared a lot of things up for me! I will definitely look at pmog's translations but I would also be very interested in your take on each character's background (if you decide to make another FFX video!)
amazing video... So many things have started to make sense now especially since I finished FFX for the first time a couple of months ago. FFX has always been a bit cryptic and confusing but you did a great job keeping it concise and relevant. Thanks man.
Wow, Berk, this was amazing! Part of the reason I love FFX so much is due to the rich history of Spira, so this really made my day:) I've feel like I've been in withdrawal since the end or your FFX/X-2 videos! I never knew about Ultimania so this was absolutely fascinating to hear. So... a possibility of videos on character's backstories... that would be incredible... I really hope you decide to do it. I've watched a lot of game commentaries, many of them on FF and yours are hands-down the best out there. Thank you once again for another great video. I hope everything is going well for you in Turkey:)
Funny...the spiral of death that stopped us from involving... false hope that keeps us going. the god that they praised turned out to be the final boss.. I played ALOT this game when I was a child. and so I came to be an atheist till this day. :) thx u ffx Besides the magic, I see more in it than just fantasy
Since I subscribed to you, thats probaly my favorite video from you, liked and favorited. I already knew all of the impotant things mentioned, but is always nice to know the little things like why Wakka was a Yevon fanatic(even more than the others), when the maesters got to their positions, etc. Amazing video, sadly the last (probaly)about FFX, but ill still follow your playthroughs and movie versions. Stay well.
It may be possible that he purposely changed his appearance (magic or physically) to keep people from suspecting that he was dead and no longer aging. I agree with you though, he should not naturally age.
Significant traumatic event or physical stress could cause someone to look older practically overnight. Not saying that's the case with Auron, but we could keep it in our pocket as a possibility and not think on it too hard except when we wake up in the morning and look in the mirror.
Laura I’ts happened in real life so I’ts a possibility. But I also think since he was an unsent he gained powers from being made up of pyreflies and so he could alter his looks too. I base this of the facts that he could showcase his abillity to reveal memories to Tidus. I don’t think we are gonna get a final answer on this detail but it’s fun to speculate around. ^^
Damn Yuna and Tidus are 17 years old. When you think about it, it's weird how she was getting married at such a young age... Also, this game has one of the saddest endings i've seen in a game yet apart from Shadow of the Colossus. Funny how I still have the Greatest hits PS2 version but I only beat the game with the HD Remaster on PS4 just a month ago. Took me a month and a half to beat the game but it was worth it. Also, how everyone in my household has played it, my sister, mom and my brother. Only my brother beat it on PS2 back then but it was funny how my mom watched me fight Sin with Rikku as my strongest character and she got really upset because she never got as strong as me and even swore that they dumbed down the fight with Sin and made him easier in the HD remaster. I never played the original PS2 version to that point so someone tell me if this is true or not? I mean I grinded countless hours and got 129 hours of playtime and got 3 celestial weapons maxed and only got 6 out of the 8 aeons in total so it depends but irdk.
exactlly, but my mother doesn't belive that. She always said the game was much easier than the PS2 version which is simply untrue. Sin is a cakewalk compared to Penance. Even in both versions.
A world where people are dying rapidly and the gene pool is limited as is, marrying young and incestrous relationships are common. For those that don't know, Yuna's eyes (Heterochromia) is the result of incest, that and the game acknowledges Al Bhed (of which Yuna is half) delve into relation (specifically cousin) fucking. The marrying young part we can see in our own history.
@@guthetanuki256 yeah they don't even come close. I never managed to even get to Penance (I only got about half of the dark aeons), but I remember I could one shot Jecht with a single hit from any character at that time. I think Jecht had about 150.000HP, while dark Valefor had 1mil HP, and dark Bahamut 10mil HP!
I like to believe Sin would go to DZ waters to relax, but never close enough to be seen. Jecht however being the drunk madman he is, goes further out to to sea than anyone previously to practice blitz. A mix of dumb luck and fate.
Even though I've been a Final Fantasy fanatic since grade school, I thought I'd watch a couple minutes of this and get bored. Before i knew it i was 30 minutes in and had to leave a comment. This video is very informative, organized, and is presented extremely well. Anyone that has played through FFX and still felt like they missed something must watch this! I feel like i really understand the story now, as before i always had so many questions about the world of Spira even after beating the game multiple times. Everywhere i looked for answers confused me more until i found this. Thank you so much for putting your time into making this. 11/10!! I'm going to finish the video now!
+dansg08 the book is what happens before that i gave it a go it makes the thing as a whole seem alot less worse than just listening to the drama and a few people pointed out a few things that make the whole tidus yuna situation make sense in a way we would all agree with
Love your ffx content. Probably my top 3 games ever since it was my first ps2 game. It left a big impression so it’s cool to see others having the same feeling.
I was under the impression lulu was older than wakka, she says she was 5 at the time she and wakka lost their parents with sin's attack. I assumed it was the same sin's attack
+Pedro do Paço There is a discrepancy going on there, and there is no absolute answer, although I believe one is more likely than the other. I think that line has been worded incorrectly or has been translated incorrectly, Because it isn't very likely that the Ultimania is wrong. I think she is maybe talking about a different Sin attack when she was 5. It's either that or all the official sources that state her age as 22 is wrong. I doubt this :)
This is probably not canon, but there's a great comic called "Guardian" by DA artist DippyWerewolf that puts Lulu's origin in another part of Spira. So she's not a Besaid native exactly, and moves there as a child. If she was five when her folks died, it's safe to say she went to Besaid shortly after.
So glad i came across the video just a few hours prior to the steam release. Really got me pumped to play my fav final fantasy game all over again. Thank you for clearing up alot of the story with this video.
This is my first video I've ever seen of yours. (off of reddit mind you) This is a fantastic watch and very informative.I learned a lot. I hope you do another on with stuff from 10-2.
Wow the time it must have taken to make a video like this thank you played this game 4 times when I was younger new there was a dream and not time travel but did not know any of the details of it
This is so awesome, subbed to you! I thought I knew a lot about this game already (played it and x-2 about 4 or 5 times each now) and just found out I knew like half of the information haha. Very well done!
Please forgive the spelling errors. Not having played the game wholly through yet, I took notes on this video and wanted to put this here in case people wanted the shortform of the video (how I heard it, anyhow). wow this has been & still is one of my top favorite FF games even today & I pay attention to a lot of the lore in games but i didn't knoTHIS much thnx for this its very detailed great job
I first saw that ending scene 16 years ago, I've played through FFX on many different occasions, and EVERY TIME it makes me cry T_T Every time without fail
Die as a hero, or live long enough to become the villain. I feel like this is how a lot of stories go, when once you are there to try to protect your home... eventually once you are the bigger group, you become the enemy.
Thank you for making this video, from when I finished this game a long time ago I always thought it was time travel. I was quite young and you answered a lot of questions I had that was hard to find answers for, I'm starting another play through and it all makes a lot more sense now.
Great Video. FFX mythology ressonates very deeply in my heart. 15 years later, im still playing the game :D This video really tied in stuff i misunderstood as a kid "way back when" (little wakka quote in here :3 )
Thank you for clearing things up! I was confused how dream Zanarkand works, the war between Bevelle and Zanarkand, how Tidus was formed when he himself is a dream and Shuyin's existence. This is brilliant. Thanks for the hard work! I subscribed 😊
I always assumed that Sin attacking Dream Zanarkand occurred because it was a recreation of the destruction of the actual Zanarkand. Think of it this way, The dream Zanarkand is like a looping Sphere recording, except the period before the loop ends and starts over is very VERY long: potentially lasting decades. Looking at it like that, Jecht and Tidus may have existed many times in the past as well, all part of that loop. That would also be why the dream Zanarkand doesn't appear to change much in a thousand years.
+magesfolly Yes if I remember correctly, Sin destroys Zanarkand every now and again, to prevent them from also getting too technologically advanced, and seeking out the rest of spira. Another theory is that Sin is basically programmed to do 1 thing. Prevent the outside world from discovering Dream Zanarkand by destroying them periodically. It tends to target large cities. In order to extract Tidus, Jecht needs to get really close to the city, which causes Sin to also attack the city.
I played the game four times and I still find this video very informative ... My respect to the game concept is increased and I'm very thankful to you for making this video
now, I'm a big fan of this game, absolutely love it. And after watching this video i only had one question left....... why didn't Yevon just summon Sin from the start? If it was powerful enough to wipe out the rest of the machina cities all alone, wouldn't it be powerful enough to to simply be a guardian of Zanarkand? Something that flies over the city, protecting it. That's that only thing i never understood in the game.
I do remember reading (don't remember if the source can be trusted) that when summoning Sin, Yu Yevon lost its total consciousness and was only able to perform the 2 tasks he assigned to Sin : protecting the Dream Zanarkand and detroying "enemies" = machina users. From this, we can speculate that, in order to not destroy its own city (Zanarkand still relying on machinas after all), Yu Yevon would have made a replica with a bond with his other creation, Sin, to avoid completelly destroying it. This is confirmed by the fact that, when Bevelle's soldiers got past Mt. Gagazet when attacking Zanarkand (1000 years ago), they found the city in ruins : Sin applied its "destroy technology" pattern on the first civilization it crossed. That while keeping its distances from Dream Zanarkand from the rule that the speculated bond between the two made. This could also explain the theory/fact/idunno saying that neither Jecht nor Yu Yevon planned the destruction of Dream Zanarkand at the beginning of the game. Sin was protecting it from a distance. But in order to retrieve Tidus from it to make him go to Spira, Jecht had to make Sin approach Dream Zanarkand, and it toggled the "destroy technology" pattern again. Pattern that didn't occur when Sin brought Auron 9 years ago because it was still "tiny" from the fusion with Jecht's Final Aeon.
Yevon objective wasnt destroy the enemies, I heard long ago that he was a pacifist and were just defending against bevelle, he had no intent in fighting or destroying anyone, his only objective was to keep his city alive, Sin was suposed to be just an armor for him(so he can safely summon his city)and a guardian for that dream city, not a killing machine. But once he created Sin and the Dream Zanarkand, he lost his consciousness( it was to much power to control), and started to function in automatic, and without Yu Yevon in control Sin interpreted his orders wrongfully, the armor though that the only way to keep Dream Zanarkand and Yu Yevon safe was destroying the machina cities, and keeping people in the dark age and not leting the population grow to much. TL;DR-YU YEVON WAS A PACIFIST,SIN WAS NOT MADE TO DESTROY BUT TO PROTECT. But the dream Zanarkand was to much for Yu Yevon to handle so he lost consciousness and the control over Sin(they started working in automatic). And Sin interpreted that for the the protection of Dream Zanarkand and Yu Yevon he should destroy the machinas and keep population growth in control.
Matuiss2 Seems logic. But we get back to the first question then. Why creating Dream Zanarkand if he could have protected the real city in the first place (in his plans, not knowing that he would lose control) ?
kangourouuu1 well, i cant really be sure about that, but mine guess is that he knew that he would lose his consciousness, coz summoning a city OR creating an armor like that would take a lot from him.....but he didnt expect that Sin would interpret wrong his orders, he was expecting Sin to just be a gatekeeper near Baaj and Dream Zanarkand. to avoid people messing with him and the summon. Thats just mine speculation but makes sense.
kangourouuu1 Yevon was losing the fight against Bevelle, meaning that Zanarkand was likely already in at least partial ruins. Yevon wants to keep his city alive forever as he remembered it, so he summoned Dream Zanarkand. Then to protect himself and keep the summon of Dream Zanarkand going, he summoned his armor Sin. More than likely he lost his mind over time from the strain and ended up not only destroying Bevelle, but also Zanarkand and every other machina city. This would explain why Yevon is basically a mindless parasite when you encounter him, just blindly possessing Aeons with no mind of his own.
I absolutely LOVE you for this! Please do a video catering to the characters individual backgrounds! I know you may not be up to it, but I have been following all your FF10 vids since he beginning, and I'm a heavy fan! It would be so cool. Reading it is fine, but it's just always a bonus to hear your take on it.
This was one badass video, I want one like this for FFVIII, because that game story can be confusing too. I'll be watching this again later were I can take all the info more properly.
I guess an FFVII expert will have to step up and do it, the only other game I could make something like this for is probably Metal Gear, but that has such a long and convoluted story that it would be about 12 hours long and I would definitely make a crapload of mistakes :P
0meg4f3n1x Nice try :) I'd have to have played the game multiple times first, I think only then can you truly have the insight necessary to do a video like this and relate it to the things we see within the game. Just reading/memorizing/paraphrasing a wall of text won't really help. I just don't know FFVII at all, that's what I meant in my previous comment :)
lol, ppl thought this game had time travel xD wtf were u guys playing or listening too -_- , the game clearly tells its story and events being played out. This is why the ending of FFX is so sad as Tidus the dream vanishes when Yuna performs the sending of all the spirits :'(
You forgot to say the final fantasy 10 story is in the same world from Final Fantasy 7. Final Final X story happens like 1000 years in the past from Final Fantasy 7. Are the only Final Fantasy games connected!. But the most evident is the al bhed smart kid from the ship called "Shinra" is the guy who create shinra from final fantasy 7. Even Kazushige Nojima said both games are related.
Don Jon Fascinating. I do remember reading something about how the genius kid was gonna use the tech from the final boss to harness the energy from the farplane.
Besides that, all of it was probably just some easter egg the writers decided to add for fun when they wrote FFX2. I highly doubt that Nojima had even envisioned the connection when he wrote FFX.
I'd love a full in depth detailed history to preasent story...not just a time line of special events. That would be great to listen to...would be like 4 hours but still great.

I always wished they would have made a prequel game that was the story of jecht, auron ,and braska's journey.
Me too. but after 15 years, i have lost all hope that could happen XD
Maarek Steele but fundamentally it'd be exactly the same as X. just with different faces
The Fourth Captain maybe they bring x-3 i know maybe it gonna ruin everything but the audio drama blowing my mind, i want to know what gonna happen to tidus and yuna i dont want they break up this is sad
The Fourth Captain
Not exactly the same. Just doing prayers, facing Fiends, and Jecht selling himself to Yunalesca to become the Final Aeon.
***** but what new story elements could it possibly add? Nothing. We already know all the key events of braskas pilgrimage. I mean you'd get to see trivial things like how jecht or auron behaved in certain environments, but nothing that would ever warrant making a new game
i believe this is the only game that can make me shiver in the 1st 2 secvs just because of its music. ITS BEAUTIFUL!
best game
i play it every year, and i already played it this year, but i'm about to play it again
I personally think that road to zanarkand is the best music ever put in a final fantasy game
The name Of the music Is To Zanarkand.
there is an 10 hours special.
The music in this game is like a part of me. I'll play it and remember it for the rest of my life
it's good story time music!
played this game as a kid and had no idea wtf was going on in the story, I thought it did revolve around time traveling back then and of course, being a lil kid and all, I was more focused on the whole "Omg pretty cutscenes!" and just enjoying learning how to use a controller and be awed by the graphics (since they were really good at the time).
Years later, I never really knew what FFX was about plotwise and now I just realize...
man, final fantasy X is probably one of the saddest games ever, emotionally speaking :(
Bro we all didn't have a fucking clue what was going on, hence why we're watching this video.... as adults.
Facts. This entire story is a drama. Ughh
I've come to find out that every FF is just a big "fuck you" right to the feels.
@@burger_kinghorn
" that doesn't make any sense in the context of the story. Oftentimes later material comes out which doesn't quite fit the canon which may have been a more self-contained story."
I agree.
Only those made up from pyreflies can enter or leave and Sin sort of acts as a gatekeeper of that world (Dream Zanarkand)
Great, I answered one question but my next question now is: What count’s as a soul? A being who can speak, think and act? As to why the dreams of Zanarkand can rest in piece at the farplane.
Maybe because DZ (Dream Zanarkand) is still a thing that was created by the fayth’s in Spira?
Now I am just rambling but it’s fun to come up with theories. ^^
Rikku explains before u walk into the farplane that the pyreflies react to people's memories of the dead, that they aren't actually their dead relatives' souls.

You so smart
5 seconds in the video and I already feel nostalgic.
Did you not pay attention at the end of gagazet? They explain it when you see all the fayth on the mountain
@@paulcrandell2198 yes , there is only those options
If dream zanarkand existed inside sin jecht would have easily meet with tidus, what you re saying makes no sense, yes there is copy of zanarkand inside sin, but it's not our dream zanarkand. Our dream zanarkand has a physical place in the world, the guy of the video even says that he read the ultimania which is the ultimate source of lore of the final fantasy franchise, and people are still debating this for Christ sakes

You should do a vid like this for the other FF's! The format and production is always 1000%, tremendous in every respect bro.
Watching this realizing the whole story is really based on everyone dealing with the inevitability of death, and the willingness to love the people around them knowing they will lose them
Yup! Just like in the real world, inevitable that death comes to us all
Especially with a disaster class monster around.
Death is the central theme of FFX. You can even go deeper:
Auron is dead.
The explanation actually starts around 5:00
Yeah, that "intro" was way too drawn out.
@@ErnestoDelacruzJunior I literally went to the comments to see if anyone else got frustrated with it too.
@@aerrozettv lol same. Tyler Fontenot is a hero
Omg Im glad Im not alone here
This video has made Final Fantasy X even more beautiful in my eyes than ever.
Ltr, ltpa.
IS YOU TRYING TO BRING BACK THE TEARS FROM THE LAST SCENE?
Putting the goodbye scene in the end was so unnecessary. Now I'm crying :/
I just wanted some fun FFX trivia and *BOOM* right in the feels
The ending got me too. Right in the feels.
Gaspar Monteiro ARE you*
Why is someone chopping onions?? 😭
I remember feeling sad when I finished this game. The story is amazing.
Same I played through ffx more then 4 times
I just noticed the Fayth, at beginning talking to Tidus, is the stand user and Tidus is his "stand". It all goes back to Jojo.
Yare yare
Yikes jojo fans ruining everything
@@Walamonga1313 lol it was a joke man
I've been playing this game for over 15 years... it's shaped my childhood and there have always been questions and things I wondered about how the heck the whole time-line made any sense.
I have both on ps2 and the HD Remaster on ps3 and played through them multiple times, the story is epic. there were afew things in this video that enlightened me, although i did know most of it.... but its nice to have a vid like this to watch.... ps, FFVII, VIII, X, X-2 are my favourites' and i have your movie marathons in my watch later, thanks again for all your hard work bud, these vids mean alot to me and alot of us... tc & l8rz
dansg08 Well I didn't spend all of my time on nothing :D
I feel like I have read some of those exact sentences that you read out there too, quite literally so I am sure I stumbled across the Ultimania content myself. Well I know for a fact that I looked it up for some game mechanics but I must have checked some of the story parts as well.
dansg08 he prob didn’t. Sounds like a pretentious douche. Who says that?!
dansg08 I like how you used the original soundtrack instead of the remastered soundtrack :)
Also perfect usage of the incredibly beautiful original soundtrack, thank you, that makes it so much more awesome.
I guess it's only if Jecht had enough willpower to direct Sin there.
wow that just changed the game for me that was so help full i did always think he did time travel tthanks so much for clearing that up for me and keep up the great work man ill always support you every step of the way :)
thank you ! really thank you for this video, i was always so confused with the time line in FFX, i always thought there was timetravel involved but never got it together how it would really work but your explanations makes total sense, Thank you !!! FFX was my very first Final Fantasy and also my very first RPG, i still love it !!! But now i have too play it again :-D
You should, and see it with new eyes :)
Love this, fills in a lot of the gaps I had when I was in my teens playing this!
Thanks for making this video, man. I love this game, and I've been playing it for 20 years.
I'm always glad to watch content for it, and I'm disappointed it took me this long to find you video.
My best wishes to you, man.
OMG THANK YOU!!!!! You explained everything so well and this is a very complicated game. Thank you and you earned a sub.
Thank you for the contribution man. I'm a working dude with a corporate job, rat-racing, but I remember the fun I had being part of this - I'll call it 'journey' of a game.
Thanks for making this man, really grounded out my understanding of what happened prior to the game.
Ive always been wondering if sin just looks the same everytime or changes from aeon to aeon.
Wegron i wondered too during the video but it would make sense that he does change
Perhaps the longer it's around the larger the outer shell is.
The core is obviously the guardian who became a aeon
@@swordkingx4874 no,the guardian becomes sin, which is the armor for Yu Yevon inside
@@thalesatreides9566
The dialogue sort of treats "Sin" like it's two different objects: there's the "unholy armor" that is Sin, or Yu Yevon's shell, and there is the aeon that is possessed by Yu Yevon (meaning Jecht becomes Sin).
For all intents and purposes, the great beast of a shell is Sin. But the fayth/aeon that "becomes" Sin only really becomes Sin's core. In other words, the outer appearance remains the same, while the inner core varies with possessed aeon.
Nicely done.
And, great music choices throughout.
Even Yu Yevon's love for his country is apparent here.
Oh, man. I saw the FFX thumbnail in my sub feed and got SO EXCITED. This is fascinating!
I know I love anything that involves learning more and in depth about this story
Thanks for all the background, I've been curious but never had the time as I was always looking for other sites information
Unlimited Aeon Works
This is awesome! I usually struggle to explain this to people, but here is an awesome summary
amazing video...
:) thx u ffx
Besides the magic, I see more in it than just fantasy
That kinda sounds like the plot of Grandia 2
Since I subscribed to you, thats probaly my favorite video from you, liked and favorited.
I already knew all of the impotant things mentioned, but is always nice to know the little things like why Wakka was a Yevon fanatic(even more than the others), when the maesters got to their positions, etc.
Amazing video, sadly the last (probaly)about FFX, but ill still follow your playthroughs and movie versions.
Stay well.
Wow! I really enjoyed learning all the stuff I didn't already know! Thanks! :)
Wow, this video was great and it made a lot of sense. Are you going to upload a video about the characters? Thanks a lot man, great job :)
just blew my mind holy shit i thought i knew everything about ffx...but in truth i knew nothing at all. thank u sir for educating me properly
It the same universe as final fantasy. The machina of old were the maki reactors and technology.
I've revisited this video every six months, thank you for making it.
So even after Aauron died he continued to age. I didn't think the unsent changed at all such as Yunalesca.
It may be possible that he purposely changed his appearance (magic or physically) to keep people from suspecting that he was dead and no longer aging. I agree with you though, he should not naturally age.
He uses the faith to feign aging
love how you paced the music to match the point of the story you’re telling.
I mean I grinded countless hours and got 129 hours of playtime and got 3 celestial weapons maxed and only got 6 out of the 8 aeons in total so it depends but irdk.
the last bosses in ffx are very easy even in the ps2 version. there are other bosses in the game that is way harder.
exactlly, but my mother doesn't belive that. She always said the game was much easier than the PS2 version which is simply untrue. Sin is a cakewalk compared to Penance. Even in both versions.
oh that reminds me of the penance fight...and rikku did the job in the end lol
A mix of dumb luck and fate.
fantastically well done to the exact point of perfection
Even though I've been a Final Fantasy fanatic since grade school, I thought I'd watch a couple minutes of this and get bored. Before i knew it i was 30 minutes in and had to leave a comment. This video is very informative, organized, and is presented extremely well. Anyone that has played through FFX and still felt like they missed something must watch this! I feel like i really understand the story now, as before i always had so many questions about the world of Spira even after beating the game multiple times. Everywhere i looked for answers confused me more until i found this. Thank you so much for putting your time into making this. 11/10!! I'm going to finish the video now!
dansg can you please do a video on ffx2.5 its really pissed me off and i would love to hear what you tbink?
+thedialgaclub It's in the FFX-2 Commentary Walkthrough playlist :)
+dansg08 no i mean the book where tidus kicks a bomb and gets reborn again
thedialgaclub After hearing the audio drama I don't want to go anywhere near the "book"
+dansg08 the book is what happens before that i gave it a go it makes the thing as a whole seem alot less worse than just listening to the drama and a few people pointed out a few things that make the whole tidus yuna situation make sense in a way we would all agree with
thedialgaclub Might give it a go one day, do you have a link to read it?
+Yelroc Watching this as it downloads, even super fast internet isnt fast enough.
+Bannana Could NOT agree more brother! lol

Wow the time it must have taken to make a video like this thank you played this game 4 times when I was younger new there was a dream and not time travel but did not know any of the details of it

wow this has been & still is one of my top favorite FF games even today & I pay attention to a lot of the lore in games but i didn't knoTHIS much thnx for this its very detailed great job
You know. Now that you explain it, it makes sense. I feel kind of dense now. xD
I think the world has been appreciating nerdy things more and more. Like, "Oh, now we see why that is good."
I was quite young and you answered a lot of questions I had that was hard to find answers for, I'm starting another play through and it all makes a lot more sense now.
what about ffx2? how did tidus sleep for 2 year and wake up in the ocean?
Great Video. FFX mythology ressonates very deeply in my heart. 15 years later, im still playing the game :D This video really tied in stuff i misunderstood as a kid "way back when" (little wakka quote in here :3 )
4:55 to skip the blablaa

Seems logic.
I have something written down for Auron as a potential video, we'll see how things go. I don't want to get people's hopes up :)
dansg08 Too late lol! Hopes on Mercury!!!! ^_^
This was one badass video, I want one like this for FFVIII, because that game story can be confusing too. I'll be watching this again later were I can take all the info more properly.
I guess an FFVII expert will have to step up and do it, the only other game I could make something like this for is probably Metal Gear, but that has such a long and convoluted story that it would be about 12 hours long and I would definitely make a crapload of mistakes :P
enjoy =)

0meg4f3n1x Nice try :) I'd have to have played the game multiple times first, I think only then can you truly have the insight necessary to do a video like this and relate it to the things we see within the game. Just reading/memorizing/paraphrasing a wall of text won't really help. I just don't know FFVII at all, that's what I meant in my previous comment :)
dansg08 Oh, I was answering Hyan36, he or she seemed interrested in learning more about FF8's plot ^^
My bad :), it didn't have a "tag" for him and since it appeared under my comment I thought it was for me :)
Final Fantasy X was the first I played from the franchise, and it has always been my favourite.
Gandalf the summoner?
Gandof :P
This explains so much, I’ve been confused for 23 years and now I finally get it.
my favorite FF game, i would love if SE makes X-3.
i knew all of this already but listening to you talk about it was still super interesting!
thanks for making this awesome video
lol, ppl thought this game had time travel xD
wtf were u guys playing or listening too -_- ,
the game clearly tells its story and events being played out. This is why the ending of FFX is so sad as Tidus the dream vanishes when Yuna performs the sending of all the spirits :'(
Very thorough explanation of everything in the game. Very well done! Thank you for creating this video 😊
I do remember reading something about how the genius kid was gonna use the tech from the final boss to harness the energy from the farplane.
didn't really " forget". why would he speak on that when this video is about the Spira timeline prior to the main game story? kinda irrelevant.
