    Harrison "Two Touch" Petty is just woeful and needs to go for Melbourne. How on Earth could firstly, Adelaide offer two first rounders for him, and secondly, how on Earth did Melbourne turn that down? He is lucky to be a single thrird rounder now, and looks like a guy that has checked out anyway.
    Amazing how well the forward line looks without him anywhere near the team.

    As a tiges fan who loves Baker, Bolton and Rioli, Kingy actually swayed me a bit with the hypothetical glut of picks that would come in. Bolton himself is still quite young though so I don’t love the idea of trading him

    • @jeremyholland4
      @jeremyholland4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I agree the picks sound nice, you'd ideally move most of them to get something like 1, 5 and 10. But I think we need to keep 1 of Bolton, Baker or rioli. You need experience to teach draftees how to play, we've seen pick #1s go to poor teams with little leadership and they flop. So you need experienced stars to teach the future

      The players know the criteria for the Brownlow before the season starts, it would be unfair for whoever wins it to give it up because it was expected to be Isaac's. I understand your frustration and I would like change for this too but you can't turn around mid year because the favourite is out of the race.

    Brownlow - if you get a week and only one week over the year, you are still eligible. The fact that the player misses a week removes the potential for them to accumulate more votes so that is enough!

      Hit the nail on the head. I would go 1 step further and remove suspensions altogether. If someone gets rubbed out for 3 games, then virtually impossible to win the Brownlow anyhow because 0 votes for 3 weeks. I mean it's a self-tuning vote isn't it? What is fair when the Brownlow was invented is not what is fair now. The only thing is what to do about financial sanctions instead of suspensions - maybe a financial sanction could be -1. Punters that moan 'leave the game alone' are stuck in a time warp when dinosaurs wandered around the place.

    Echoing what someone else said in the comments when I say, footy isn't what it used to be and it may be a silly and obvious statement but we have so many rule changes year over year and even mid year too. AFL needs to come out with the rules pre season, set them and stick to them for the rest of the year, have a review at the off season of what worked and what didn't work well and look at what you can improve. The players look lost half the time when the whistle blows they don't know which way its going and who did what wrong.

  • @spiz649
    @spiz649 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    The Brownlow does affect the coaches. Imagine the mindset of a player when he comes back from a suspension knowing they can still win vs knowing they’re out of the run. Knowing they can still win but missing a game probably means they come back in hungrier.

    If he wasn't in contention for the Brownlow or it was just any run of the mill player, this wouldn't even be a discussion. The fact that he is theoretically polling well for an award should have zero bearing on his guilt or innocence. The AFL told everyone that this action would be graded intentional before the season started, so they all knew. Plus the AFL has about zero consistency so why would you do an action that takes your destiny out of your hands and puts it into those of the tribunal? I'm sure he didn't mean to do it, but in the end he smashed a guy in the face with a clenched fist.....much the same as those players who chose to hip and shoulder but just get it wrong and make contact with the head.

      Corey McKernan was suspended for 1 week for a tripping offence & missed out on tying the brownlow / potentially winning it outright in 96… 12 months later they changed the rules so the penalty would only be a fine.

      @InTheOuter หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Stewf85 Dont worry I know. I am a North supporter. My point is that if Heeny had been someone not in contention, it's a week no questions. Why should the fact that he could potentially win a Brownlow change the way we view his (or anyone elses) offence. If we feel it should be downgraded because he might win, then we are accepting that the "fairest" isn't that important any longer. So in that case, let's get rid of that as a criteria. If not, then we have to not even allow Brownlow contention to enter the conversation. BTW, I am on the fence, but I realise we can't have it both ways.

    Doing something against the rules, to such a degree that they are given a suspension, means that they were not fair enough to win the Brownlow medal.
