We didn't see the resistance in haute-savoie (savoya), the savoya boy win against the ss in 19 august 1944.

I honestly have not heard of the French resistance in Haute-Savoie before. I've just now been looking it up and its pretty interesting, definitely some stuff that I should have included in this video

Hey just a little correction. Vichy never gave Alsace Lorraine to the germans, this occupation was 100% illegal even from Vichy's point of view. Anyway nice video

Great video! I'm glad to see the pathetic Vichy regime collapse. The commenters defending Vichy France need to pull their heads out of the sand.

Exactly, it was a criminal regime who voluntarily subjected their own citizens to horrors of the Holocaust and used concentration camps in their overseas colonies

GalacticPenguinTV I'm not defending vichy france, but it was better for the french to live under vichy france then under the nazi's. You can say whatever you want about de gaule, but he did make life a lot easier for the french, even tough he was subjected to the germans. I think it is sad to see that people don't understand the pressure of war, which also happend to romania and bulgaria, who where forced into the axis. De gaule made it a lot easier for the french than other people and thats why he served his country well in my opinion.

Nico Iannacone holocaust would have happend anyway in france and even harder than it did in the past as we know it. Sometimes you have to take a morally wrong route to save a lot of lives.

@@reddyforlenny9389 It would have been better for France if their government hadn't been at eachothers throats 24/7 and the French army actually knew what was going on instead of being left to fend for themselves. I agree Petain was a traitor, but I also acknowledge that he too feared a repeat of the Great War, and so signed an armistice to save many lives. Unfortunately he became a puppet to the Nazi Party in the process.

    • @reddyforlenny9389

That’s an oxymoron, how can he be a traitor while also being a hero for saving France from further occupation? Being a fascist doesn’t automatically make you bad, like all ideologies it’s a tool to be used however the leader sees fit. And he used it to keep France, well French and not Deustch.

@@reddyforlenny9389 I didn't say he was evil, I merely said he was a traitor to the French by allowing thousands of his citizens to be rounded up and sent to death camps, but he also saved alot of French soldiers.

We really came close to total annihilation didnt we. Baffles me how recent all of this is.
interesting fact : while the landing in Normandy was primarily anglo-saxon, the landing in Provence was primarily French (although supported by allied equipment and logistics)

I have literally never heard of the german colonisation zone of burgundy before. But apparently because it used to be part of the holy roman empire the nazi’s wanted it. Weird.
