My mate and I just use the mod, ‘Player Led Peace Deals’. It allows one to take all land regardless of one so chooses, but we always choose to be fair and allocate territory per AI contribution.
It looks like the original player was not very experienced, he probably forgot to build a supply hub in savoy leading to terrible supplies in the alps and an easy push opportunity for the axis

at first i was thinking the same but even if he took that port the axis troops would still get some pretty good supply because there was another port a couple of tiles away but by retreating to tripoli he made it so that the axis troops dont get supply

Defending whole France is not so hard... You just need to reform industry, take Maginot extension focus, build 10 fort at Sedan and Dunkirk, and max fighters...and concentrate all your troops on the mainland.
Italy even took Egypt, which it actually does a lot for some odd reason, one time I was playing as Germany and Italy had steamrolled Africa all the way down to the Cape, but they failed in Algeria meaning that it was completely useless anyways
My favorite of these videos is the start where you plan your strategy. Once you've got the plan I feel it's just over. HOI4 AI is powerless against a player with a good game plan
I mean. Blum wasn't in charge then. In 1940, you're looking at Paul Reynaud, with Gamelin as commander. Now, I'm sure he'd do a better job than Gamelin - but then again, it's hard to do a worse job than Gamelin.
I personally always go for Organization First, since various doctrines help with recovery but only one doctrine tech box helps with reinforce rate; and reinforce rate matters!!!
Head ups for anyone checking out the Mobile Game Bitt3rSteel showed; it's VERY similar to Company of Heroes (but on Mobile). If you're a fan of the game series, I HIGHLY recommend the game.
I only managed to survive with a full democratic France ONCE. I even was technologically and industrially superior to all of the allies combined but somehow Spain was still almost impossible to take down
I would not want to be in the planning room when the wehrmacht had to explain to Hitler how they were not only unable to capture all of France despite the majority of the country being captured, but that Italy also allowed the French to naval invade behind them and encircle all of the German troops in France.

I honestly have a hard time to believe some of these scenarios weren't created with console commands. But I really don't care, it's interesting to see you take up the challenge. I often create these kinds of scenarios through modding and console commands, it's the best fun I have with Paradox games.

I made a harder comeback. I had the mag and the three Paris tiles. You can then lose 1 VP in N. Africa and not cap. I ultimately sat there till the US Ddayed in like 44. But I did get the win

Paradox needs to really get the AI de-prioritize these tiny sub countries in peace deals, they're so messy and pointless in the final peace deal

Air is just about going where the enemy isn't. Sea is easy, the French fleet is massive
