    Back around 1992 my mining partner and I were staking claims in the Owens Valley.
    We happened on a well hidden aboriginal turquoise mine. Spectacular.
    Think Independence.
    I have been scrounging since the mid 50s for turquoise. My first finds were around Winnemucca.
    Then Battle Mountain, then moved on to Crescent Green. Great times, great finds.

      @@rockhoundingwithjasperblue I contend there is more still out there than has been removed.
      Dedication, hard work and luck will eventually pay off.

    Nice little pocket you were into, to bad you didn't have a chisel with you. My local mineral group has a trip planned in February.

      @rockhoundingwithjasperblue  ปีที่แล้ว

      Awesome! I’m sure you will all have a great time! I went back in there with a chisel and yes, is was MUCH better! Unfortunately my ‘cameraman’ was taking a ‘break’ then🤨. But again, it is just awesome to be able to mine Turquoise so close to home! I wish you much luck. A hope you all make awesome finds ( and memories)!💎

      Hi. This is near Hinkley, CA. Very close to Barstow. The Rockhound Field Trip Fanatics have been going there quite a bit, lately.

    Great color turquoise. We need to get you a chisel. How stable is it? That’s usually the issue with turquoise. Looks like a lot of fun. I think you had all the rockhounds in SoCal out there.

    • @rockhoundingwithjasperblue
      @rockhoundingwithjasperblue  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there! I actually did go back with a chisel and it worked real well! We had to bail, though. Had a small kid issue. 😳. But yes, you’re right. It was pretty crumbly. And will more than likely need to be stabilized in order to get a polish. And yeah, I think that was the most folks I’ve been out with at one time!

    You did good my friend, what kind of Turquoise is it

    • @rockhoundingwithjasperblue
      @rockhoundingwithjasperblue  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi. Thanks for the nice comment. That Turquoise is unique to that area, outside of Hinkley, Calif. Most of the stuff we found was fairly chalky and will need to be stabilized, if possible, to be able to work on it. But, the mine owner did say that some harder material can be had there. It was a very cool experience. 💎

      I did hear about it. And I believe it was on the RHFTF and the Roadside Rockhound FB pages. I hope you score real good if you can get out there. It’s a very unique place. And it just makes you wonder…there’s probably some kind of mother-load vein running through there…somewhere!!💎

    Does the group do any collecting instruction, any use of proper tools?

    • @rockhoundingwithjasperblue
      @rockhoundingwithjasperblue  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. Well, the Wagonmaster, Kris Rowe, can surely give collecting instruction while on site and very good advice on the use of proper tools. I don’t recommend ‘doing things the way I do’. I was pretty much all over the road that day as far as extracting the material from the host rock. I did utilize a chisel with that hammer, off camera and that worked a lot better. There are many others in the group that have much more experience than myself in this kind of work. 💎
