      So glad you loved this rockhounding adventure. It’s one of our favorite places to go. And this video WAS made for you!😉. I would say that just about everything we pull out of there is a combination of 2 or more different materials. Mainly agate and Jasper. (I think) the white one with the green streaks you’re wondering about, at the end there?, is an agate. It really looks a lot like ‘tree agate’ (from India). Definitely a rare pattern for out there. I’ve found quite a few pieces that look like they just don’t belong there at all. But that’s also what I love about Gem Hill. Every single time I go there I find something different. Thank You so much, for checking us out, Laura T! 💎

    Great show! You are much like me, though I am anchored in Indiana; see some colour and the eyes grow wider!

      Well thank you Sir🙂 All I've ever really wanted from this whole endeavor. Is for more enthusiasts to make vids. Not too many people we're making videos, when I first started sharing. My favorite channels, that I had newly discovered. Had long since stopped making content. Nearly no one covers this part of California either. So I'm very pleased to see your channel. Keep up the great work and Thanks again👍

      Thank YOU, friend. I can tell Gem Hill is a special place to you too! I’m surprised we haven’t crossed paths out there. And it seems, from some of your other vidz that there are a couple other places we also hit up. Such as Clay mine road and vicinity. We may have even been out at Gem Hill the same time a few years back. I brought a pretty big group out and we were over at the south east slope. We saw a truck up on top of the ‘green’ hill…that could’ve been you. Again, hope to see you out there sometime. 💎

      Gem Hill is just west and a little north of Rosamond, CA. There’s pretty fair descriptions in the Southern Calif. Rockhound books. That’s how I found it many years ago. Also took field trips there with clubs. There’s a couple ways to get in there. I’ve never been skunked there. And never even disappointed. I’m sure there is So Much more just waiting to be found!💎

    What do you do to clean up your agates? pressure wash, Iron Out, cleaner? Do you cut the agates?

    • @rockhoundingwithjasperblue
      @rockhoundingwithjasperblue  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. Well, normally I just wash them real good with a hose and then cut them. I’m also looking forward to carving some of them. For real hard mud, a pressure washer would probably be pretty good to use. I’m also gonna get a high pressure pin-point fabric stain removing gun for real tight places. Some people get a sand blaster and use baking soda in it. For real stubborn staining or heavy calcium build-up, I soak them in Muriatic Acid. But that stuff can be dangerous so one needs to take real good precautions when handling it.

    1:55 amazing agatized jasper it looks like. I could be wrong but I have one that looks very similar but it solely jasper. Beautiful Chalcedony through it. Some really cool find you got there, where around are you rockhounding at?

    • @rockhoundingwithjasperblue
      @rockhoundingwithjasperblue  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So far, all the videos are in Southern California. And these spots are in the Southern California books. Gem Hill is in Rosamond, near Edwards AFB. Lavic Siding is out by Barstow. Right now it’s WAY too hot for me out there. But I’m really wanting to get back out there as soon as it cools down a little. We’re about to put out a ‘Beach’ hounding video we did a couple weeks ago.

      @@rockhoundingwithjasperblue Awesome, we just went to the beach as well found more fossils then rocks haha, went to a beach called Agate Beach, found no agates. And I feel you with the heat wave. It's pretty hot here and Cali is even hotter. Next week's suppose to cool down.

      @@OregonRocks there’s an Agate Beach up in Bolinas, Ca. Just north of San Francisco. The place is a little hard to find at first. But if you go at the right time, you can find these little gems called ‘Oil Agates’. Sometimes you can find a few that are about an inch long. Real awesome and unique Agates. They glow yellow-orange under a long wave UV light and are SUPER hard! There’s also some Whale Bone there!

    What material is the tumblers?? Is it chalcedony? I found quite a bunch of material like that and don’t know for sure what it is! They tumble up beautifully! I know that because I just keep tumbling it lol I found it all on the reservation in my own back yard :) it’s so pretty!

      I’m referring to pieces like at 24:55 and on. What would you call that?

    • @rockhoundingwithjasperblue
      @rockhoundingwithjasperblue  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rockersfromaz3001 at that point in the vid, those are a mix, I’m fairly certain, of moss agate, Jasper, chlorite-the kind of matte green stuff, with some chalcedony thrown in the mix. It’s all types of silica mixed together. A very unique place. I often wonder what went on there to cause such variety!

    • @rockhoundingwithjasperblue
      @rockhoundingwithjasperblue  2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I wish you were telling us what these all were. I'm ignorant when it comes to rock and mineral types.

    • @rockhoundingwithjasperblue
      @rockhoundingwithjasperblue  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. Most of them are agates. Some are mixed with Jasper and are called Jaspagates. There is Rhyolite and even some petrified wood in there. Some of the green colored material is opalite and some is Chlorite. Over at Gem Hill a lot of the material got nicely mixed up way back when it was cooking in the earth. The mixing of the different materials makes for some very unique and wild patterns in the pieces we find. I would’ve really liked to have been there when the place was first discovered. There is still to this day some very nice material to be found. I was there about a month ago with some friends and we did very well. Have a great day. 💎

      Yes there is pet wood there. Most of it is dull white or a grey-brown color. But I have found some pretty cool stuff that I call RhyolAgateWood. It appears to be a combination of all 3. It looks and cleaves like Arizona Pet Wood.

    Hi what street do you approach Gem Hill from to get to that location? Will two wheel drive vehicle work?

    • @rockhoundingwithjasperblue
      @rockhoundingwithjasperblue  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. I took Mojave-Tropico road. You come to a left turn, coming from the south, and go up a little road through a flat area with a bunch of big white rocks surrounding the flat area. It looks like massive parking lot. Go through there veering right. A two-drive will get you most of the way in. BEWARE. There are a bunch of signs stating no trespassing and that we are on private land. I don’t know how legit those signs are. They look like someone just slapped them up. However, there are other signs that say Property of Portland Cement Co. Right to pass subject to…I believe they are the actual owner. But the site appears to be abandoned. Beyond the signs is BLM land. You can always go in the other way and walk over Gem Hill. But that’s a long walk… Good Luck. 💎
