Inspired by the popularity of when I did this in Kerbal Space Program 1, coupled with the fact that KSP 2 currently doesn't have any thermal heating, I decided to build an epic space station in close proximity to the sun! The Kraken tried its best, but we overcame lots of hurdles to get our Kerbals abandoned in one of the worse environments in the Solar System! For science, of course.

I remember being so excited KSP2 was first announced, and seeing the state that the game is in now hurts me more than I can express, especially after seeing the joy and dedication from the devs
It annoyed me they paid all the creators to swear it was not early access while showing a timeline that was clearly early access and then switched it up and acted like they always knew it was early access.
Not the same dev team or company as KSP1 either so they couldn't use any of the old code for legal reasons so it's going to be a hot mess for a long time.
@@MinistryOfMagic_DoMthey can use all the code from KSP, T2 bought everything from Squad and were even involved in the 2 DLC that were released for KSP. All of the KSP IP belongs to T2

"joy and dedication", more like "snake oil and acting". Looking back at the interviews, you never see real code editing, just people staring at blurred out code and spinning 3D models around. Then you have all the people talking to the camera that give off that fake corporate vibe.

Hey Matt, you wouldn't happen to be an Outer Wilds fan would you? As soon as I saw this vid I thought "huh sun station from outer wilds" and then I swear I could hear the sun station music from the game playing. If you are then that's amazing! That game deserves way more recognition then it received. One of the greatest of all time!

I like to think, since Kerbals are immortal, that when trapped on a station or outpost for to long and their water, food, and air runs out, instead of dying they kind of become a bit desiccated. They look like living mummies or zombies and in that quasi hibernation state all they can do is stumble around moaning "snacks". But of course after feeding and watering they return to their normal selves.

I just love the fact that he put the sun station theme from outer wilds at the end of the video.
As a solar station, you should have painted it in gold or chrome color (in relation to the thermal constraints).
When designing missions and crafts, the thing that I always consider is what the thumbnail will be. I painted the station white with colour accents because it would "pop" more in the thumbnail shot compared to gold or chrome :)

Never gonna happen sorry bud, re-entry heating was supposed to be added one month after launch yet here we are. Extrapolate that to the rest of the game and it'll take 10 years to be finished
It amazes me that this game has been out for 6 months and we were told right before early access dropped that science was a few months away and recently it was still "months away". I love ksp and it will forever be one of my favorite games but i have 0 faith in this game being finished. It just bothers me seeing their bug list being like 20 items long but then with every patch 5 more bugs come up. At this rate its gonna be years before we see things like interstellar. I hate to say it but i can totally see them scrapping this game.

Ksp 1 launch was just as bad. It'll be years before this game is polished.
@SaviorTheBurn true, but.... ksp was an original idea and was made from the ground up by one guy in the beginning. This game has supposedly a large crew with all the framework of the original to base their game off of. And the original was free in the beginning and was what $30 when it was 1.0.

@@SaviorTheBurn KSP was no where near as bad except right at the start and they priced the game as early access. Now there been greedy and pricing the game as a full release but making it as broken as KSP when it was a alpha
Once the thermal attributes update comes out, you should do a "Sunshine" style mission to your local star. Big, long ship, even bigger thermal-reflective shield umbrella at the fore of the ship. Maybe minus the psychosis.
The film sunshine was a decen idea but then it went poor when they decided to make it a slasher film halfway though

The bitterness is palpable. I really appreciate Matt soldiering on with videos, but the slow death of ksp2 is painful and sad.

I commend you for sticking with KSP 2 Matt. I couldn't. I went back to KSP1. It seems like their patch schedule gets slower and slower after every update and I'm suspicious with so many persistent bugs being "fixed" Nate may be more interested in pushing patches than actually testing them to verify what's in them is true. I am slowly losing faith in this game, which really saddens me.
This game would have needed another 2 years before releasing it in EA is my opinion. Bugs are to be expected in EA so I don’t mind them.
But the whole game was not ready for EA in this state.
i actually love that the sun is so incredibly bright. it makes things so much cooler
The cool thing is nasa’s original flight plan for the Parker solar probe was similar to Matt’s gravity assist (real engineering has a great vid on the mission)
It was actually a more efficient flight path than the one they chose. This new flight path using Venus gives them a few more passes around the sun and the chance to study Venus, which has received less attention than Jupiter, plus much more time spent near the sun.

Love your content Matt. Here and Space this Week. I'm living KSP 2 through you vicariously (at least until it's stable and trimmed enough to be a little less of a nightmare than currently so), so please keep up the noble struggle! If space were easy everyone would go! ;)
i just got ksp 1 instead of two, and i just put my first station into kerbin orbit, it has radiators and solar arrays, and its an SSTO (in a way) its just one stage to get to orbit then it jettisons that stage and no more thrusters and its in orbit, took me a few trys but my inspiration was from you, thanks!
this game was so hyped and took YEARS in development and it's still bugged. really bugged... i'm surprised you're such patient
TBH I think a lot of the joy with things like "sun stations" IS THE HEAT MANAGEMENT CHALLENGE. Should have radiators and stuff to carry heat away

Your segway into the commercial was smooth and your dedication to what is still a very broken game is admirable.
I actually completely forgot about KSP2 after being hyped about it for the past like 3 years(?). Don't even know how long it's been since it was announced and don't even remember how long it's been out but honestly, don't even care.
If you get closer to the sun the glow goes away and you get to see it in all its beauty I highly recommend
Possible suggestion: throw a probe with many science experiments and throw it into the sun/kerbol. To make it withstand the heat, put multiple layers of heat shields, you know, the big inflatable ones.
Back when this video was made there was no thermal stuff, but now there is

You can actually go through the sun's "surface", which I've done before, and on one attempt my probe reached the core of the sun and got krakened into an orbit.
I find it really funny that one of the main selling points of KSP 2 was that they were going to "slay the kraken". All they did was make it angry and it got worse. As someone who absolutely loves KSP and has over 2000 hours in KSP1, I can't justify supporting the company by buying this trash. Maybe in 2025 or so... on a sale.
They said that was their ultimate goal, not that they did it. But yeah the game does need more work although it has definetly improved a lot in terms of bug fixes and performance
@@razorback8300 It's still unacceptable. The game is objectively worse than the first game in literally every way. Modded KSP1 will be better than KSP2 for at least the next 5 years. I'd argue vanilla KSP1 is a better product too. I can't in good conscience support a company that thinks it's ok to release this trash and then take what is obviously going to be years to turn it into a decent game.

@@Jehty_ What they released is dishonest, have you seen the price tag for this steaming barely playable trash heap? It's abundantly clear that they just wanted the big money from the hype so released it in a mess at full price and then cut half the team so we only get 1 bugfix every 4 months or so.
...the big thing I've learned through watching KSP 2 stuff, is apparently I'm the only person to use struts like this in KSP 1.
Send a massive inter solar craft all the way to the edge of the universe in preparation for the solar systems update (also might find your crafts from ksp1)

I'm still upset about waiting for so many years for KSP2 and have this be the result. Releasing such a half finished buggy game, with the Kraken in it too is just a slap in the face.

Modifying the save file to fix a glitch was a pro gamer move, glad I haven't had to run into that. yet.
They STILL don't have heat in KSP2? Man, I remember when KSP1 was being built by just Harvester before he got a team, and he was pumping out updates and bug fixes faster. Then he got a VERY small team, all of them amateurs, and built KSP to what we have now. KSP2's team is twice as big and actually has a budget not just from Take Two, but from all the Steam sales (which they refuse to refund). Happy for Matt and anyone else that can still have fun, but I can't even land on the Mun without something gamebreaking. KSP1's kraken was never this bad, and again, it was a small team with a small budget, so it was excusable and always was eventually fixed.

I'm really only able to watch a KSP2 video up until the first catastrophic game-breaking bug appears, then I'm out. Made it though 11 minutes of this one.
What you’d want to look for is something called “Bloom”
Bloom is a graphical effect which can alter the brightness or sensitivity of light reflections.
Hmm What about making some Space Docks? As in trans lunar traffic.
In Ksp i made a station with 4 "shuttles" that could undock from the station around kerbin and fly all the way to the mun or minmus, theyre purely for transport but it was fun to make them, each of them also had a heatshield and parachute for evac, maybe something like this would be fun in ksp2, especially once you can make ore and fuel -w-
If the orbital decay or the heat doesn’t kill them the radiation will.
i wish radiators existed despite no heat, so that post-thermal-update, your ships dont get destroyed

Building rocket in KSP2 is 1% engineering and 99% STRUTS!
Have to say, I've been pretty disappointed in KSP2's extremely low update frequency compared to the original - especially given the number of high impact gameplay bugs that remain unfixed. Kudos for suffering so we don't have to.
