    I got one for my wife, she was reluctant at first cause no one else used one but now it’s her favourite club in the bag.

    I am amazed that everyone doesn't carry a chipper. I have a Cleveland Niblick which I bought on ebay (mainly because I couldn't find a decent new branded club). I found I was often chunking my wedges for the more delicate chips from the edge of the green, especially in wet conditions, often costing me 3 or 4 shots a round. My chipper has been a revelation. I find I use this club maybe 10 times a round and I've never chunked it. Its also very helpful in those situations where the ball is in a hazard and you just want to get back on the fairway. After practice the results are consistently close and chip-ins are fairly common. It replaced my gap wedge which I rarely used. I still need the 60 degree for over bunkers etc.

    A lot of snobbery in golf and i'm no tiger woods so as soon as i dropped my ego and got myself a chipper (Odyssey) 6 months back i saved 6-8 shots per round..no one cares how many clubs i have in my bag at my level, couldn't recommend enough

      I've been using a vintage chipper I found at a tag sale years ago and... love it.
      These days we have hybrids, graphite shafts, range finders, adjustable drivers with 460cc heads, golf watches, etc, etc... yet chippers are frowned upon??? Go figure.

      I just put a 5 gallon bucket in the yard and hit balls at it with my 52. You can even work on flop shots with a 60 once the balls get too close, best thing you'll ever do for a high handicap game is take 50 chips every evening.

    Love it I got a Cleveland smart sole chipper same thing. I call it the Chutter. Anyway good for me up to 130 yard shots 150 down hill. Very accurate at close ranges. If I'm hitting off of tight lies and not hitting my 56 or 60 well I break out the Chutter. Bump and run all the way. Also great for low ball flight keeps ball underneath tree branches and stuff. Lovee all your videos! Keep it up.

      Same for me with Cleveland Smart sole chipper. Anything inside 100 yards, unless there's no room for runout. Then the Cleveland Smart sole sand wedge. My short game still sucks, but at least I can get on the green.

    I actually used this chipper for about eight months on the Amateur Tour I was on. I wasn’t confident with chipping and this club helped, but it also taught me the better mechanics of chipping that I was able to chip confidently with my other clubs that I was able to take it out of the bag. So I do think it can help someone, and the club I took out was my most lofted club. It worked for me.

    I borrowed my moms pitch putter. It's a 45 degree. I found straight shots and easy to control. Going to find me one tomorrow. Definitely going to improve my game. On the practice green I was getting close to sinking them. For us who struggle with chipping this is the ticket

    I am a 5hdcp, from the midwest and now reside in the northwest, very good with short game around the green. However, I still struggle with bermuda grass especially into the grain in the south including Las Vegas and California. The big sole helps prevent digging, just no bite. I even think of putting this club in the bag when I travel for friendly tournaments.

  • @stevencarroll4250

    I have used the Adams Idea chipper 37 degree for 10 years, I put an extra fat grip on it lovely. I do not have enough confidence around the green. BUT you need a lot of green to work with. Our greens are elevated so you cannot run up. Best on flatter approaches with a lot of green at least 20 feet as this baby will run. Putter stroke is best. My biggest problem is if I try to land before the green and run, that is tricky. You were just using this and found it easy to use, very accurate. If you used a lot you would love even more.

    • @frontlinefortificationfind5636
      @frontlinefortificationfind5636 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Installing a fat grip or putter grip is a violation of USGA rules. Sorry, you just turned an iron into a 2nd putter. The chipper can also only have one striking face. Sorry to be a rules snob, but you need to know this if you ever use it in any tourneys.

    Great video great advice. I have one and if my short game is off it goes back in the bag. Otherwise I find that standing closer with the shaft upright and the heel of the club off the ground works really well. The British coach Pete Cowan advocates this method with great effect.

    I took a cavity back 9 iron, filled the cavity with silver solder, smoothed it out and covered the solder in lead tape. I then mounted that head onto a graphite shaft to maximize swing weight. I was absolutely amazed at the shots I could stick close from almost any lie. Thanks and keep up the great work!

    I found one of these and played around with it in the yard. First thing I noticed was having to hold the handle high like you mentioned vs choking up like i normally would. It does work, honestly you would have to really screw something up to not chip with this. To me the flight is about what you would expect from an 8 iron, which i use a lot for chip n runs. If you struggle at all it would be worth trying a chipper, because it won't only help you in game, it will help groove in a nice technique. I can't play one though, no room in bag and I would just use an 8 iron to do the same thing. If I was going to remove a club it would probably be the 62*, but I carry a lot of wedges.

  • @2Eaglez
    @2Eaglez 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    For those of us who play single length clubs, chipping with a 6 hybrid (30 degree) works as good or better because the sole on the hybrid is not flat. My putter length is 34 inches and my single length clubs are 37 inches in length, so if you choke up on the hybrid about 4 inches it is the same length as my putter which I choke up about an inch. You can then use a putting stroke. This way you don’t have to decide about what clubs are in or out of the bag.

    • @Alandale45
      @Alandale45 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your choice of a hybrid 6 iron is correct. I own a chipper from MacGregor Golf named "Long Roll Chipper". It is 27° and looks like a hybrid iron. It has a length of 37". It is unbelievably versatile.

    I'm 72.. I only have 10 clubs in my bag because there is no reason to carry something you rarely use...One of mine is a chipper which I added after playing for years with a friend who is deadly with his from about 20 yards in and chips in once or twice every round... I'm not that great with mine BUT I now have a lot more 1 putts than I used to... I also carry an Alien wedge as one of my 10 clubs... I'm no scratch golfer but I'm consistently in the low 90's and quite happy with that.

    I’ve used a chipper for a few years. It takes a while to master especially on longer pitches. The biggest thing for me was distance control. I’ve even used it out of shallow bunkers. Once you get used to it, it can be a useful club.

    As the instructions say, "use your putter swing and grip". I do carry one, and took out my pitching wedge, my 9 iron and gap wedge can carry most of the difference. I usually track my fairways hit, G.I.R., and putts. Even though I am not a great putter, I rarely take more than 32, and that's less than a par number. Fairways come in at about 50%, not good! But, G.I.R. is about 5 of 18(Crap!) The chipper helps me take less putts by getting on the greens sooner and closer ; no brainer!!

Never thought about using it from the trap though that’s pretty crazy but maybe worth a shot if the lip isn’t too high. Thanks for the video man ✌🏻

    The club encourages a bit of a putting stroke. The same can be done with an 8 iron, standing more upright and having the toe of the club be what passes through the grass. It's very effective, pretty much impossible to chunk it.

My scores immediately got better with this club. I suck at chipping with wedges and this club makes me feel like im cheating lol

      You shouldn’t try to chip with a wedge in most situations. The amount of loft on a wedge will either send the ball flying in the air and go too far, or go super short on a softer shot. Really you want to choke down on a 7 or 8 iron and swing it like a putter stroke.

    I was semi-Pro 23 years ago and was gifted one by my girlfriend at the time. She is no longer with us so that club means something special to me, but in regards to my game, I will always have it in my bag. I use it at least 4 times a round to this day and cannot express how valuable it is. Putting through fringe is unpredictable and a chipper allows you to go over it and roll with accuracy and confidence. I also hate baby chip shots with a wedge and a chipper allows me to avoid that. It doesn’t work with downhill roll out, but it gives you a significantly better chance to hole out within 12 feet off the green and with practice gives you a much higher percentage at saving par.
    Just think of how many pros wish they had one at Pine Hurst for the US Open🤔

    I carry a Cleveland Niblick 42 instead of either a 60 or a 3 iron. I have zero doubt it saves me 2-3 strokes as an 8 handicap, particularly for tight lies and the sneaky use is the 100 yd sand trap. What cracks me up is the buddies who chuckle about it, then they chunk a shot and take 2 more to get down when I get up and down. Go ahead and chuckle while I take your money. Again.

    Knock off Cleveland chipper with a 3/4 swing average 145 to 150 with decent accuracy. Got rid of 8,9 and p wedge. Will use it this year in my clubs one club tournament.

    Bought a cheap double sided chipper once, obviously only used it playing with friends because it's not legal. I wanted to know 2 things, if it was any use & if it was any good for left handed shots from a bad lie. It was a brutal club, I found it best used for getting out of rough or behind trees when there was a risk of damage to a club. I also found I could hit it straight as a die for about 150 yds & played a few holes solely using the chipper inc as a putter. It performed admirably, but like you say it had little "touch" to it. I think it's worth having one for wrong handed shots from a bad lie if you can get the appropriate hand, & they can be fun to use as a type of rough rescue.

    I just took my new Cleveland smart sole 4 "c" to the range today. I think it's 42 deg loft and about as long as my other wedges. It was great! I was able to nail my targets from 100 yards and in, knowing it would roll out a bit. Closer in will be easy peesy :0)

    Hello again Matt! After waiting for my chipper about 2 weeks ago, it finally arrived yesterday😃. I took it out to try on the practice green on the course but didn't get to use it during the round yet. I found that most of the balls started on line and staying pretty straight like you shared here. It was really easy to chip with and i even had a friend who was having hard time chipping with his clubs tried it and he too was impressed by this chipper 😃👍. I am going to practice with it and also find out if it is legal to use in tournaments because i would love to keep it in my bag if i do no get DQ 😂. Let me know if you or anyone here who knows for sure if this chipper is legal for competition. Thank you all in advance and thank you so much for introducing this chipper here Matt! 🙏

      @@djmech3871 well, it was a yes from a golf pro at the course that I played once a week and also from a few guys who sell golf products at the biggest golf store in my town. I would say the best thing to do is to ask the guys in charge of the tournament where you are competing to make sure they know and it's 100% legal so there's no question about it from the players in your group or in the tournament. 😊 Good luck!
