I went and did it, I bought a chipper and not just any chipper but the Cleveland Smart Sole. I tried a Tour Edge chipper cause it was half the price, but it did not have a good feel, so decided to spend the extra cash and got the Cleveland. The Smart Soled design makes a world of difference. The ground interaction is a lot more predictable. I have been practicing with it in the yard from all sorts of lies and it is a great club. It does not replace the need to use a wedge now and then to be sure, especially if you want the ball to check up, but it is still a lot more versatile than I would have imagined. Plus it is much easier to be accurate with the chipper. Especially on the bump and run shots....amazing. I love it. Thanks Mark.
Dean has the magic. Love the take away, don’t change what you are good at because you are good at it. Greg talks about it in the podcast as well and it is a great message for all of us average hacks!!
This sums up what you have been saying all along. Equipment can help to augment and make shots easier. However, equipment cannot replace lessons, talent, and hardwork.
Besides the fact that Dean has the magic, I really like how he quickly explained how to chip it off the fringe. Upright, off the toe almost; I'll be sure to try that one, next training session (I usually use a hybrid, after Rose winning the US Open). And yeah, when you're good, just be good.
I'm a 6hdcp, carry 9 clubs...and one of them is a forged chipper. 67-degree lie, loft 38, 35", and I also use it for knock-down shots from 100 yards in. I sometimes leave driver out of my bag (on shorter courses), but I NEVER leave the chipper out. Unlike a lob wedge, it is a club that every high handicapper can master by practicing in the backyard, and it will definitelty cut strokes off your score!!
Just bought the smart sole gap wedge to replace my zip core 50 degree. No effect that I can tell to my full shots and it just inspires me with confidence for little chips - best part is it doesn’t use up a space in the bag like a chipper
Precision shots from Dean. Chipper shots were a little worse than I expected. I have had a chipper for over 10 years & it comes in handy for chip & roll situations. The last couple of years I have found it also useful from in a tree lined situation where you need low & straight shots. You use it like a putter & it tends to hit it straight. Where you hit & depending on required length, the ball can travel good distances to get close to or onto greens where other irons you would be just getting back onto the fairway & taking your medicine. I can chip ok as well but this comes in handy in several situations. Took out my 5 iron or 5 wood depending on the course I'm playing.
I own a 2011 Cleveland Niblick. I bought it used as a joke (only $20), but it is nearly identical to Cleveland's newish Smart Sole chipper. And yes, I use it a lot!
I knew a guy (friend of a friend) that had a chipping club and he was so good with it. I asked him if I could look at it once. He was not happy when I pointed out that the putter grip he had on it made it illegal. He didn't talk to me much after that.
Why would he want to talk/play with someone that is going to point out every rule of the game if he's just out there having fun and learning?... You really think he doesn't know the rules?... You sound like the guy counting strokes for practice swings in the bunker...
I have a 18* driving iron and a 18* 5 wood which goes a bit further and higher. I get some criticism for having 2 clubs of the same loft but used for 2 very different scenarios. I see no problem in having a 9 iron and a chipper with the same loft if there's room in the bag. In fact using it as a putter can create more confidence in my opinion. I would like to try it.
I got his club,, and I can say... It's awesome,. easiest club to hit in my bag. I used dread chip shots now i welcome them. It works for bunker shots too.
"Dean has the Magic" Cheers to you all. Mark, thanks for another entertaining video. I'll be getting a smart sole chipper, soon enough. I'm getting new irons first. Keep up the great work
Dean has the magic. I would still contest though. That for the club golfer a chipper would still be the way to go. Courses set up for pro competitions tend to have the rough around the greens thickier making the chipper less practical.
Love the Cleveland zipcore, been wanting to get some of the tour ones but can’t find them anywhere online left handed - do they only do the standard for left handers?
Dean has the magic... Are we not going to talk about Dean seamlessly flicking his ball then marks ball up straight into his hand...@4:46. Such a neat little trick...but hard to pull off smooth...I still practice on the course.
Chippers are WONDERFUL clubs IF you know how to use them and actually play with them enough to understand them and get the feel for them. I have used mine for over 20 years and it’s never coming out of the bag!
Hi Mark I’d love to see a video for hitting chip shots around the green when the ball is on the downward slop. You have to swing up the slope then try to hit the ball down the slope. Hope I’ve articulated this well enough understand…
If you struggle on those 20-30 yard shots with a wedge these chipper clubs will save you some shots for sure. There’s quite a few makers out there so you’ll just have to try one. Maybe a friend might have one you could give a try…👍🏼👍🏼
DEAN HAS THE MAGIC!!! Wow… Just ridiculous. Love the chipper but also loved the process he went through to describe what he’s gonna do on that stinky lie…
Been trying to get one of these for ages but since Mr Parfield has been vlogging with the Smart Sole everywhere is sold out!! Hope you get some commission from Cleavland 😄
At age 70 plus the magic has long past for me...getting sick of jabbing my chips from 30 yards in, as no amout of practice will help me. Either the Cleveland or the PING I'll get, I play PING 430's but I like the extra loft on the Cleveland I think
Better competition would be non-pro wedge player against chipper; I believe more “average golfers might benefit from a chipper - however, using 8 iron or PW could be used as easily as a chipper.

“Chippers are great but if you’re good just be good” Love it!
Dean has the magic. Mark’s best advice (advise) to date: “If you’re good, just be good.”

“DEAN HAS THE MAGIC” Love the chipper content. Keep it coming!
I'll just piggyback off this guy's comment.
Besides the fact that Dean has the magic, I really like how he quickly explained how to chip it off the fringe.

Dean has the magic
Of course, Dean is in the top .0001% of players. For everybody else, a chipper is still probably the best choice

Dean has the magic - great video very entertaining 👏
Dean has the magic. Well done, Mark

What a class short game dean has
This is brilliant 😂 Gutted you didn't win though
The man is an absolute magician. Awesome Dean!
Magic those balls Dean!
had my smart sole chipper for about a month now, what a club! helped me with my short game massively

Where y'all playing in a PGA event, or were you just butt hurt?
Dean made this tough chips looking so easy. Great result from Marks chipper as well 👌

Loved this. What a short game 👏🏻👏🏻

Could only dream of having a short game like dean what a player. Great content as always mark cheers
"Dean has the Magic" Cheers to you all. Mark, thanks for another entertaining video. I'll be getting a smart sole chipper, soon enough. I'm getting new irons first. Keep up the great work
You're gonna love that smart sole chipper
Dean has the magic!!!! That was great to watch.
that was impressive chipping - thought the chipper would have done him - as you said get fox back hahaha
I’m amazed…. Didn’t think Mark + chipper would have gotten beat so easily…. Tour pros are just on another level
Dean has the magic...
Are we not going to talk about Dean seamlessly flicking his ball then marks ball up straight into his hand...@4:46.
Such a neat little trick...but hard to pull off smooth...I still practice on the course.
Best golf, life show ,on da tube👍
Dean definitely has the magic. A superb range of shots with a lob wedge!
Dean has the magic. Time to steal some of those shots and get them into my game this weekend!
A pleasure to watch
“DEAN HAS THE MAGIC”. I need to do some serious work on my chipping. I recently purchased the Cleveland chipper.
Chippers are WONDERFUL clubs IF you know how to use them and actually play with them enough to understand them and get the feel for them. I have used mine for over 20 years and it’s never coming out of the bag!
😂😂 ‘If you are good, just be good’ 😂😂
Perhaps the caption should be, "If you can't practice short game shots 2 hours a day, consider buying a chipper."
Hi Mark

Dean has the magic.
Good video as per mark
Beautiful golf shots
Dean has the magic - I saw a lot of him at the Scottish Open, class act, that 2 iron from the hay on the 16 th was wow if you saw it.
Dean has the magic! Lol u put it best …if ur good just be good… but for me I’ll continue to use my chipper 👍
Dean has the magic, just some crazy shots from him in this.
Great honest video.
Well done mark 👏 👍 the chipper love it 😀
If you are good, just be good 😂😂😂... what a motto 👍
Nice entertaining video. Dean has the magic
Dean has the magic. I consider myself good for an amateur, but I still want to try the chipper.
Never thought I would see the day…..😮 PLAYA!!! Man got skills.
Enjoyed the vid, chipper certainly has potential but will our egos let us put one in the bag!
Wow! Dean has the magic shots
DEAN HAS THE MAGIC!!! Wow… Just ridiculous. Love the chipper but also loved the process he went through to describe what he’s gonna do on that stinky lie…
Dean has the magic!! I wish I did too!
Woah what a spectacle
My 9 iron always closer than my Cleveland chipper. I just cannot control distance with the chipper.
Dean has the magic… great ti watch
Be versatile as well, if a tour pro carried one of those chippers what club would he give up? I mean, what other shots could they use it for.
“Dean has the magic” 🤘🤘🤘
Dean has the magic and he certainly does!
Keep up the chipper content
Dean has the magic. Great skill.
Dean's comment was tooooo funny "Were do you buy that....."
Been trying to get one of these for ages but since Mr Parfield has been vlogging with the Smart Sole everywhere is sold out!! Hope you get some commission from Cleavland 😄
Does anyone know what Brand Deans top is?
Marks comment about lowering spinning 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Poor appearance of the mythical Chipper here, Parfield! That's a shame! A true win woulda been hillarious!
Deans second shot was 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Is the chipper legal for tournament play?
Yes
Dean most definitely has the magic!
Worplesdon Mark???
At age 70 plus the magic has long past for me...getting sick of jabbing my chips from 30 yards in, as no amout of practice will help me. Either the Cleveland or the PING I'll get, I play PING 430's but I like the extra loft on the Cleveland I think

Dean has the magic, but the chipper is magic!
Dean has Magic!
Dean has the magic...but he needs a chipper to be "the guy who started it all" in reference to all the chippers we'll see on tour in 5 years.
Dean has the magic for sure
Dean has the magic!
Talent
Dean has the magic touch around the green
Dean has the magic. Fun.
Humble pie.
Dean has the magic
Mark has the chipper
Coach has both
The shots that drag you back to play another day. Give me a chip off the green inside 6ft beats a 250y drive fown the middle every day of the week
Dean has the magic…. I have the chipper and it helps.
Dean has the magic baby
I remember you guys slagging off the xact chipper and I knew you would come to the darkside.
Burmy can seriously play… he’s not just a bomber ☺️
Great shots by both but dean has the magic
Dean has the magic! Like bloody Harry Potter with that 60 degree!
DEAN HAS THE MAGIC
Dean does have the magic. But I don't have the magic...so I'll keep the chipper!
Mark has the chipper, Dean has the magic.
Dean certainly has the magic
Nothing wrong with those easy pitches with a 7 or 8 iron, imho. Same loft as a chipper.
Ha ha loved the video guys
