I drive a 2019 Honda Insight EX and to get the best gas mileage you have to drive it like a hybrid and not a ICE car. By that I mean drive it in Economy mode, don't stomp on the gas pedal, accelerate slowly and use the regenerative braking to slow the car down before braking and don't stomp on the brake and if it's not hot don't use the A/C unless you have too. After awhile you don't think about it, you just do it. I live in mountainous rural east Tennessee and on state highways I consistently get between 63-69 mpg but that's driving the posted 55 - 60 mph speed limit with limited passing and stopping for traffic. On the interstate driving 70 - 75 mph the mileage goes down 10 - 15% depending on how fast you drive and when going up a steep incline you get a lot of droning from the engine. When driving in traffic only use Sport mode to merge into traffic, Sport mode decreased mileage with a minimal gain in performance. EV mode is almost useless, you might go a mile if you have a good charge on the battery. I use EV mode when I'm going through the drive through because it doesn't use any gas while you're creeping along and I've been stuck in the drive thru for 20 - 30 minutes getting food because of the Wuhan Virus. All in all a great car, I'd do it all over again except I'd spend the extra money for the Touring model. You'll see reviews where the reviewers only get 40 mpg and that's because of the way they are driving it, its not a sports car. I'd had my car for 8 months and with constant experimenting and note taking I think I figured it out. You should checked the Gen3insight.com forum, lots of Insight owners getting even better gas mileage but that depends on where you live and how you drive. When I drove to Florida and the roads started becoming flat I got up to 68 mpg for long 100+ mile stretches. I've gotten 500 or more miles between fill ups on trips and fill ups are usually less than 9 gallons since the Insight only has a 10.6 gallon tank. Not bad and it looks so much better than the Toyota Prius but the Toyota Corolla hybrid is a good looking hybrid too. If you buy the Insight I know you'll love it! This gal has a nice Honda Insight Touring! The Insight will not run gasoline engine only under 40 mph, it requires battery + gasoline power to drive the car meaning while the you hear the engine its charging the battery and running the engine. Over 40 mph you can drive gasoline only if you are really going fast, maybe too fast otherwise the gasoline engines job is to power the generator which charges the battery and when you have enough charge it's a combination of electric + gasoline which is what makes it a hybrid. It runs for awhile on just the battery and when the charge goes down the engine starts running for the recharge. The Honda hybrid system is very similar to an EV while the Toyota system is more ICE like hybrid system because it has a bigger battery. Honda uses Li-ON and Toyota uses older NiMH technology which is why they use a bigger battery (I've done a lot of research and my brother drives a 2016 Prius and he likes the Honda system better because the battery lasts longer). Honda's battery warranty is 7 years and newer Toyota's are 10 years on its newest hybrids if that matters. Another thing to know is depreciation, hybrids because they rely on a large electric battery depreciates faster than a ICE that's because as the battery ages it has less capacity meaning my Insight might only have 2/3rds of its original life in 5 years which is what I've seen with the Prius. Last of my long winded comments (I promise). The Insight LX and EX gets better gas mileage than the Touring becuase the Touring uses 19 inch tires and its a little heavier with the extra features. The Insight does not come with a spare tire but the spare from a Honda Civic fits in the little cubby. You get a can of fix-a-flat and a small air compressor but you do get 3 year/36000 mile road side assistance from Honda which fortunately I've never had to use. Before my Insight I had a 2015 Civic EX-L.

yoooo, this was (and no pun intended, unless you find it funny) very insightful!! Wow i need to copy and paste this and send it to my mom. She has the accord hybrid and i know most of these specificities you mentioned are for the insight but i think some of the ways you drive will really help both of us maximize our use of our cars! thank you so much for all of this information!

A quick question on the blind spot thingy. I see the passenger's side has a camera, but does the driver's side mirror have any type of blind spot indicator?
