But how in the world did they go from making unreliable cars in the 90s to BUYING VOLVO? And what made the founder so mad that he drove a steamroller over an entire lot of cars? Join James Pumphrey as he gets you up to speed, on the largest Chinese car brand you've never heard of.

      To bad volvo didn't really needed saving and now they are producing terrible cars, beautiful, but unreliable, seen to many cracked pistons, broken valves and failing hybrid systems in new volvos. I'm a volvo guy btw so don't get me wrong

    • @MichaelReeves412
      @MichaelReeves412 3 ปีที่แล้ว +180

      Glenn Tjan A Sem interesting, outside of some Hybrid difficulties (as all first generation cars have), I’ve had no issues with mine. I also work for a Volvo and haven’t had many complaints with the cars at all. As for saving, Volvo definitely needed it. Ford wasn’t funding them at all and was essentially letting the brand die. No investment into advancing the cars and therefore no sales, and Vice versa. The Ford era reliability was terrible, the Geely era outside of first gen 2016 XC90s, have been VERY reliable thanks to the universally used SPA Platform and Drive-E motor we have used in EVERY model for the last 5+ years. Ford essentially bought Volvo for the safety patents and let the company die. Geely has caused it to be one of fastest growing luxury brands on the market outside of Tesla with some of the highest ratings we’ve ever had.

    As a Chinese, it feels so good to see an western youtuber introduce a Chinese company without bias and based on research not proganda. especially when I see many comments say Chinese compamy only do reverse engineering and reverse engineering is bad thing bla bla. for those people I want to say if you have a little bit more knowledge about car manufacture history, you would know a lot of famous car brand start from reverse engineering.just google Toyota victoria, A1, KIA Brisa, you will know what Iam saying. I can give more examples but I don't think it is necessay. and regarding to FTT, when foreign car brands want to come in China amd use chinese cheap labour and market sharing and goverent investigating, Chinese government ask technology as price. These brands could say no if they didn't want. it is called business, being a grown man! compared with Chinese government who make everything clear before the deal, some countries just want to Tiktok for "national security reason " and wanted to make benefit of it. I think that is calling stealing is more appropriate.

    The following is what wrote in another video of yours before I saw this video :
    Geely started out making refrigerators.This Chinese car manufacturer now ranks #716 in the 2020 Forbes top 2000 most valuable companies in the world. Geely now owns Volvo, Jaguar, about 10% of Daimler, about 50% of Proton(Malaysian car) and the British Black Cab company in London. Volvo is going hybrid and will be totally EV in the next several years. Volvo also now produces the Polestar which is an EV. Geely also owns the Terrafugia, a flying car developed by 6 MIT students from whom Geely bought the rights. Geely was never high tech but is an example of a company being successful in an area where they really had no expertise.

    Mungkin kereta proton tak sebagus kereta keluaran lotus dll. Tapi, bagi aku proton sangat bermakna untuk aku dan Malaysia. Kita pernah berbangga dengan kereta keluaran Malaysia satu masa dulu. Masa proton dah ada ura² untuk bangkrap, Geely beli saham proton. Masa tu baru lah proton bangkit. Aku rasa bukan org biasa² yang boleh beli saham dalam keadaan company banyak dengan hutang. Orang kaya Malaysia pun tak sanggup beli. Ayah aku antara pekerja first batch dalam proton. Pahit, manis dalam company ni semua ayah aku lalui untuk besarkan anak². Tahun depan nak pencen dah ayah aku. Semoga Proton terus sukses. Walaupun jolokan nama sebagai kereta Nasional tu dah tak ada.

      Bryan Williams the 03+ has crazy luxury interior in all alcantara which limited the production so ppl can buy this car in China but the demand is much higher than the supply. I guess it can be in the US market with a Volvo badge. Also according to the Chinese media, this car is like a gti with all wheel drive system, less sporty and more comfy than a golf r. The interior is definitely better than vw but not sure about the quality.

    When LI bought Volvo (at huge financial loss at the time), Geely was already huge and he insisted that no Chinese executives sent to Volvo HQ, but requested Volvo to build the best cars on earth. Geely subsequently spent millions on Volvo & turned them around, built a new R&D center. Today, Volvo also helped design Geely's other brands, Zeekr, Link & Co, Polestar. Zeekr is pure EV, with awesome design & driving experience. However, on EV, Geely needs to compete with 200 other Chinese EV firms, including Nio, BYD, HiPhi, Wuling, etc, which are already dominating the EV space, and started export globally.
