Yes, they are awesome and everybody around here in Germany uses them when doing the big weekly shopping trip, which is why I am always confused when people call them "weird". Do people in other countries not have these? Here in Germany they even offer them at the checkout in supermarkets (i.e. you can either get bags or you can spend a couple Euros and get one of these right at the checkout if you do not have one yet).
They're even perfect for laundry! We have like 20 of them
Scherer Richard, most places here (except for Aldi - which is a German supermarket chain) provide free plastic bags at checkout...so most people don't use bags/baskets.
Prefer this over the 5 series but it's all about your personal choice, they are both great cars...

I own a 2012 E-class estate and it’s just brilliant. Consider how much gadgetry they squeeze into them the reliability is Excellent, Never had any problems with it. For long journeys I couldn’t think about anything better exept maybe an S-class. Real wheel drive in the winter, no problems as long as you use the right tyres and don’t venture off-road. I had a fwd before and driving on snow it was horrible whilst the E-class just plows on. Next car? Probably a newer E-class!

I have the 13 plate version of this with every extra you can get practically even the sound system. Only difference between that and this newer version is the larger screen and even that is an upgrade you have to pay for. Must say though, for me, its the perfect family cruiser.
Only got it because i have a german shepherd and its ideal for him in the boot. He can sit fully upright.
Couldn't do that in the c class i had for a few weeks before that. Much difference.

I'm so excited because in a while my dad will be buying this car (not this exact one) but he is buying it with all of the features this one has. Burmester sound system, glass roof, Distronic and all the good stuff. and it has been my dream car for so long!

I have 2018 saloon 2.2 diesel amg line and mine is 9 speed automatic gearbox and on motorway its doing easily 62mpg love it!

I had a loan car while my C-class was in for service and loved this it was only basic model no seat control.. lumber control was a faff but liked the extra boot space over the C-class and passenger leg room though the amount of time I carry people is only low.. I have driven the BMW 5 series tourer ,but found it heavy esp when accelerating you can feel the weight comfort wise the bmw is great but fuel thirsty but strangely no folding mirrors which is on the mercedes maybe an extra but really on a £60,000 car.

Hunting for 1 right now to upgrade my 2015 c class. Quite a struggle to find the 350d models with a Prem Plus package and dual lcd screens
Tested the Beemer and the Volvo, I felt this was streets ahead in refinement and noise. Comfort too, the Beemer was just a little too firm and direct. Horses for courses quite probably.

Their new 220d diesel engine really is sublime. It is smooth and quiet yet pulls strongly and delivers such great fuel economy. It's easy to go 1000kms on a long road without refuelling. It's just excellent. They can fit that engine to any car and it'll be the perfect one.
its mainly because of the 9speed trans at 9th speed it goes only at 2000rpm
I consider the 4 pot diesels clattery and unrefined under load not to mention verging on gutless, sorry. I wouldn't specify a merc with one. The straight 6 diesel on the other hand is a different kettle of fish entirely.

Has anyone switched from an e-class to the Skoda Superb or vice versa? And what are the pros and cons for each car? And yes, I know that the comparison is weird, but im considering one of them, because of the surprising quality of the Skoda Superb.

Oh, I forgot. You can attach the load cover on the back of the rear seats when they’re folded and attach the integrated net to the ceiling. Quite practical.
Very true! There are two chrome posts on the rear seatbacks, to which you can attach the loadcover! I must say, I do find the load cover quite heavy.

Can you get Mercedes to fit the sporty exhaust and get rid of the fake exhaust facias at the rear?
It's supposed to return 67 mpg (the saloon 220d 72) and many drivers actually get not so far under that with general use. You also speak of a 7 speed automatic, but I'm quite sure that it's been the Mercedes 9 speed automatic box ever since the launch of this W 123 E-Class.
I have to say, by the way, that I'm not used to you getting things like that wrong in your videos !

This type of basket isn't "weird", they are indispensable for carrying your laundry around from washing machine to washing line for example (or for groceries, of course). Also: Mat seemed to be in a big rush this time?
If I had to buy any estate. This would be it. Especially the E63.

Why is the boot space extender a good thing? My ford kuga can do that with a lever about risking trapping fingers or manually throwing seat backs around

I had a test drive in the bmw for a weekend and didn't like it then had 1 day in the mercedes before i fell in love with it.

Much better like the new headlamps and daylight LEDs than former versions, though the rear section is slightly on the understated and boring side, it lacks some finesse. But who to judge an E-class really - If one like Mercedes then this is the essence of it.

I had one of these for two weeks whilst the company car was being repaired. Interior - definitely a notch above the BMW 5 touring series but I felt the seats in the BMW were a tad more comfortable. Had difficulty getting a comfortable view of the dial cluster despite numerous seat adjustments. Super comfortable ride, handling and sharp brakes. Auto transmission a tad hesitant unlike the 5 series. Boot space is enormous. Probably would go for a 5 series instead of the Merc.
