    About Simple Little Life:
    This channel has sort of turned (inadvertently) into a knife making channel. But the original idea behind what we wanted it to be is this description below:
    Videos on our journey to homesteading. With a recent purchase of a little piece of the Alberta prairie, we're looking to sell our nice suburban home in search of a more meaningful life beyond chasing the "American dream" working for some big company and making someone else rich. It's not about the money, it's about getting the most value from the work I do to improving the life of my family.
    Some preparedness, DIY, building quality things with your hands, guns, gear, and outdoor exploration.

    I realise that this video is over a year old. However, I'm a recent subscriber and have been binge-watching your channel like it was Netflix, and having started with newer videos I really appreciate these ones so much more and how far you've gone in a short time. Cutting the blades with a grinder (which is awesome, just, now you use your portable band-saw... which is also awesome), burning your blade with your belt-sander and drill-press (you obviously have a much greater free-hand feel now), pre-sanding your bevel before heat treating because you felt they weren't tight enough (refer to last bracket), heat treating with the torch rather than your temp controlled oven, etc., demonstrates a great contrast to celebrate the craft. As a Millwright you have an engineers think ahead, which allows you to "eye-ball" much of your work, and it's truly a pleasure to watch.

    WOW! as a beginer knife maker ive started watching your videos and have learned soo much. however being 2020 now, you have alot more equipment. going back and seeing this old video gave me alot of hope and ecitement. Im just starting and dont have a fancy belt grinder or heat treating oven, but seeing you use the more simple tools and still make a great knife is super inspiring. over the last couple weeks I built myself a work bench and got what I thought was nessesary for me to begin, built my forge and kydex press yesterday, and started making my first knife today! Really apreciate you sharing your skills and knowlage.

      +Jimmy Grey Thanks. It is pretty sharp. I'm surprised I haven't seen more people using it. Almost reminiscent of of bone or antler, but with out the stink when working with it. Cheers!

    • @jimmygrey6848
      @jimmygrey6848 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Simple Little Life Yes that is exactly the reason I want to get some, I love the look of camel bone but it's pricey and smells when grinding like you said. Plus I can't think of a more durable material than g10 for handles so I like to use it wherever possible.

    Great video Jeremy, and that is an absolutely beautiful knife. Btw, the spacer material is most likely vulcanized fiber. It's a super strong, plastic type material often used for adding strength to laminated wood products. I buy some of my knifemaking supplies from knifemaker.ca as well! All the best, and keep the knifemaking videos coming!

    • @Simplelittlelife
      @Simplelittlelife  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +NUMan14 Thanks man!. And thanks for the info on the spacer material. That makes sense that it would be used to add strength to laminate wood products; it a pretty interesting product. Thanks! I'm going to do more knife videos, but only after the 30 day challenge I put myself through is over. Too much work to make a knife and then edit all the footage in one day. (I was up till 1:30 in the morning getting this one done). Cheers!
