Just wanted to say that I really appreciated you keeping that blade getting yeeted on your buffer. I think that's the most dangerous (and perhaps most useful) tool in the shop. It's a great teaching that you left that part in. It only takes a fraction of a second for something bad to happen. Nicely done and taught.
I agree 100%. I use tools every day and even after years of experience they can surprise you. Glad I wan’t hurt and figured it was good for everyone to see👍
Just beginning to make knives-- have repaired/restored firesrm for thirty years. Respect quality in the shop. Four years old & still very informative...keep it up.
I have watched your videos from the start of your channel, Each knife you produce gets better and better, I especially liked this video for the reason it was a detailed start to finish video, you put a lot of time and pride into the production of not only your knives but the videos that accompany them, Keep up the great work, its always a pleasure to watch your channel.
Newly discovered your channel and have to agree. Even with this video being done over a year ago, this work is stunning. Also very clear you've branched out, tried new types of knives, expanded your skill, and have learned how to make your channel and videos stronger. Keep it up - really great to see content creators like yourself stick with something and see the progress on multiple fronts! You're what makes TH-cam great - would have never thought I'd stumble upon blacksmithing/blade crafting in a million years but I've found something that I'd love to get started in when I have a space that would allow for the tools to begin the basics.
I'd just like to say that I find your videos very informative and entertaining! Jeremy you are very talented and have inspired me to take up this craft myself! Thank you!
Great video, I learned a lot about making a hidden tang knife from this video. I am a very new knifemaker and I learned a lot about the details of fit and finish. Layout, metal fabrication using a mill, squaring up etc.. Thanks a lot.
I truly admire your precision and all of the steps you take to get perfection in the fit. Of course I also appreciate sitting similar precision in the finish... but I learn a lot by when I see HOW you achieve that "fit". Those videoed details matter to me. Thanks Jeremy! Now I want one!
That's a really good looking knife and also a very uncomplicated way of making a hidden tang handle. I was overcomplicating it in my head thinking I was going to have to cut the tang shape into some wood (going to make my first handle for a kitchen knife that had a mangled handle) so this video has been very helpful. I hope to have a respectable handle on this knife.
Another beautiful knife you’ve made. I really wish you could do this video in more real time but understand why not. That was a lot of work and time to make that masterpiece. Great job !!!
Wow. Little scary with that close call. Man that thing turned out amazing. Such simple and clean lines. I love the care you put into this. It really shows in the end product. Great work and great video.
+Simple Little Life I was cleaning a grinding wheel once with a bunch of sharp steel disks that you would place against it. Long story short, the bolt was loose and 25 micro saw blades went flying. Let's just say that's the last time I'll ever doubt the need for safety gear, especially glasses.
Great video. Good looking knife. You may consider squaring up the corners where the tang meets the blade after you do the heat treat. 90 degree angles during heat treating cause stress risers and a weak spot in the steel at the 90 degree corner. (thats why so many knives fail at the tang) I round off the corners to 1/8" and then square them after tempering. Just a thought. Cheers.
Beautiful thing, so nice to watch a beauty like that done by hand. Oh, btw, I'm a DDS, I do know how it is to do delicate things by hand that can be used to do a hard job...Thumb up!!
I have watched several of your videos and I am impressed by your skill. I really enjoy the less talk more action approach. I am definitely a subscriber. Keep up the good work sir.
I somehow missed this one in your vid sequence Jeremy but glad I found it today. Another great build mate! Glad the blade didn't come back at you when it caught on the buffer; had that happen with a chisel (very near miss). These days I wear a face shield at the buffing wheels. Thanks for another inspiring video, Jeremy. John
With all those toys I would have to be dragged out if that shop....i got one belt sander and my wife already has to stop me from building LOL. Awesome stuff man.
Love watching your videos, gonna give knife making a try soon! Been trying to acquire some tools and steel. Have a very small amount of extra cash for this hobby but gonna give it a try, wish me luck
Luck my friend, luck! I think you'll do awesome. Really, knife making on the cheap is where it starts. And maybe where it is at it's purest. If you enjoy the process, and you end up with a sharp object; it was a success. You're going to love it!
Very cool my friend! I really enjoyed watching the precision and accuracy in which you made that knife, as well as the expert use of the variety of tools. You definitely need to make more of those! By the way that knife definitely needs a leather sheath...maybe time to aquire that skill too? :>) All the best, and keep those vids coming! ...Nathan
Thank you! I agree on the leather sheath though. Anything less just wouldn't fit. I was thinking it's time I give leather another try. I hope I can get better than I've been, because I've always had such trouble with leather in the past. I admire your skills a lot! Cheers!
Really nice knife design, should be a real useful tool to use around the homestead. Now it needs a nice leather tooled sheath to complete the job. Well done.
Very nice vid, it can also be used as a walkthrough for a beginer. In my opinion you shouldn't have a perfect 90° angle between the blade and the tang though...😁
You're absolutely correct. I had heard that before, but didn't do much research before making this and wasn't even really planning on making one before I bought the wood. Next time I will certainly have a radius between the blade and the tang. Even during my machining courses in my apprenticeship we talked about how every time you put a hard edge on something it creates an inherent potential fracture point. Good catch! Cheers:)
Hey man, really nice work you do. I'm not sure if you have mentioned in other videos, but I'm interested in your tempering device. Can you give any info on this please.
Thanks! Yeah, it's a weird kind of rubber made for cleaning sanding pads and stuff. Works really well and I have them in my amazon store here: www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0000DD0L1/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=15121&creative=330641&creativeASIN=B0000DD0L1&linkCode=as2&tag=simlitlif-20 Cheers!
Do one put the blade in the owen after it reached the temperature or can one put it in the Owen and wait for it to reach the temperature and then take it out and cool
hahaha. Thanks. I'm pretty sure never. I've only seen one episode and those guys had mad skills. I'm still learning the craft but I certainly enjoy it. Cheers!
Very sweet looking knife. Very close call, can you reverse the direction of your grinder or just turn it around so if that happens again it would move away from you instead of at you? Just a thought. I saw Izzy Swan do a review on the same sharpening system you reviewed and he took his grinder off its base and turned it around so it wouldn't kick back at you.
Thanks. It was close. That just just because I was being careless with a brand new aggressive buffing wheel. It is spinning in a way that throws the away from me but bounced back. I also saw the Izzy Swan video (we released a review video on the same day - weird) and I tried reversing my motor like he did. I hated it and can't sharpen nearly as well and when leaving the grinder the way it comes from factory. I noticed he reverses a lot of his tools and I guess that works for him. I thought it was a great idea but honestly I hated it. To each their own I guess. This little incident was totally just my lack of caution and paying attention. Doesn't matter how a tool is set up, it always has potential to be dangerous. Figured I'd leave that part in the video to show that. Cheers!
+Simple Little Life no problem and I thought it was funny that you both released your reviews the same day. I watched his shortly after watching yours.
What would you recommend as a start point to re-finish a blade to something of a satin matte type finish? This kitchen knife I am working on had the blade snap in half (was a big ol' blade too) and I re-profiled it (didn't keep a point on it, rounded it as it's a slicer now) and am going to have to redo a new handle but the finish is crappy. Eventually I hope to forge blades but until I finish my forge and get a good anvil I'm working in modifying knives, putting new edges on and handles for now.
In the future, try drilling out the shoulders for the tang, that's your only weak point with this knife, and with heavy use it could very likely snap off the tang. Otherwise, that turned out great, good work!
Thank you. And yeah, I totally did that wrong. I'm going to mill the next one with a 1/4" cutter so I don't have the inherent weak point from that hard 90º. Didn't think of that when I was doing this. Oh well, the first one (and almost every one after that) are learning processes:) Cheers!
Just wanted to say that I really appreciated you keeping that blade getting yeeted on your buffer. I think that's the most dangerous (and perhaps most useful) tool in the shop. I like that you left in the clip of the polishing wheel grabbing the knife and tossing it. This shows the realism of knife making. Good work 👍
I have watched your videos from the start of your channel, Each knife you produce gets better and better, I especially liked this video for the reason it was a detailed start to finish video, you put a lot of time and pride into the production of not only your knives but the videos that accompany them, Keep up the great work, its always a pleasure to watch your channel.

Oh snap! Now that's what i'm talking about! Simple beautiful and practical! Wish I had me one like that.
Your video held my attention from start to finish. Your tools are top notch and your work is impeccable. The knife is beautiful.

Thank you very much. I appreciate it and glad you enjoyed it. Cheers!
Another beautiful knife you’ve made. I really wish you could do this video in more real time but understand why not. That was a lot of work and time to make that masterpiece. Great job !!!
Gorgeous knife, I love the wood you used and the direction of the grain flowed well with the handle contours and blade shape.
Wow. Little scary with that close call. Man that thing turned out amazing. Such simple and clean lines. I love the care you put into this. It really shows in the end product. Great work and great video.

Keeping them round will be a general good idea even after heattreat, for the same reason.

Beautiful knife, great video. Both very well made. That polish was sick!

Yeah it was. One second of carelessness and you pay for it. That will certainly be in my mind every time I use that for months to come. Cheers!
Hey Jeremy, which evenheat do you have- and if you were to purchase one again would you get the same one having used it?
