What an excellent video.. You are a marvelous teacher! So thorough and so generous to help us... Everyone should watch this... You sir are an excellent teacher.. It's a gift!
That's incredible! I'm amazed how smooth the Polygloss goes on. Theres no brush strokes at all in it. Im really interested in apply this process to slate as Ive got loads of it.
The tile you used poly gloss on definitely came out better. You are the first person I go to when I'm looking to do something new with sublimation. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge
Thanks for your question. With the polygloss tile I would recommend keeping it out of the sun. I do believe after a long time of exposure sun it will fade. As you would know the sun is even hotter now than before. In terms of the original sublimation tile I am not 100% sure.
Great job! I love love this image. I’m in the process of getting everything together try to this! I have a regular toaster oven not convention I never use. If I can use it what would be the temperature and time to cure the tile. Most of all where can I find that image? Thank you!
Thanks for your question and your comment. You can use the normal bake settings on your toaster just make sure that you keep a close eye on the tile so it would not turn brown. Bake in the oven for 300F for 10 minutes. You can send me an email atprints47@gmail.com and I could send you the picture. I hope this reply helps you while you are on your journey.
Brilliant video. I thought you explained everything really clearly. Thanks so much and by the way I li,Ed the polygloss tile best although they were both spectacular.
Thanks so much for your comment, support and stopping by to view this video. I am happy to know that the information was clear for you to understand. I also agree with you about the polygloss tile. I like it best also.
I’m thinking of sublimating some of my art work onto tiles (wildlife , mandalas etc ) so this video was particularly helpful. I also watched your plates one as well and my only problem is I need a plate press now as well 🤣
@@elainesdoodles6684 awesome, I am really interested to see some of your artwork. If you aren’t planning to go heavy into it you can try to get one from Amazon but if you are looking to really push the plates etc in your business I would advise getting a professional heat press with all the attachments so it could give you the finish you want and also it would last longer. If you are interested in that professional heat press let me know and I’ll send a link.
Thanks so much, great video; thanks for step by step details. Question: I'm getting some haze on my finished product (using the polygloss) after heat pressing on 400f for 600 secsonds. Can you give me some advise please. TY!
Thanks for your question and sorry for the late respond. You can try reducing the temperature to 385F. Make sure that you tape down your design onto the tile so it wouldn’t move when you are pressing it and when it’s finish. You can send me a picture of it on my instagram or Facebook so I can see and I would be glad to assist more.
Sorry for the late response. If you are using the brush method with Polygloss try to reduce the amount of pressure you put on the brush when applying the Polygloss.
Nice comparison. Question: It is obvious that polygloss is heat resistant and is cured by being baked in the oven. For practical purposes, you said the tile needs to be sealed to ensure added long lasting protection. If you were to intend to use the 6x6 polygloss treated tile as a trivet, what product would you use that is high heat, cold and water resistant?
Thanks for your question and sorry for the late response. In this case, even if the tile is treated and you want to sublimate onto it, you would have to use the polygloss. I would still recommend using the clear coating after. There isn't really a time when you will have tiles exposed to extreme heat. Yes, you may use them in the bathroom where hot water will run on them or outside on the porch where sunlight would be but it can handle it. The most that can happen is fading after a time. I hope I answered the question and if I didn't please let me know.
@@atprints thanks it would be interesting, I tried with an aluminum printing plate, I covered it with a sheet for lamination, but the result was good but with a ble toning, it would be nice to try with the products you use.
You are most welcome and I hope you did got valuable information. If you are asking if I need a sublimation printer the answer is yes and I am honestly trying to save for it. The printer I currently use at this moment is a converted printer which causes issues at times but it works. If you were asking if you do need a sublimation printer for this process then the answer is yes.
Hi Allan. Thank you for doing this video. I've been using subli glaze to coat tiles and am now considering giving dyepress a try. I'm concerned about getting streaks. In your experience, how much of a problem is that?
Sounds great! In relation to streaks, I would advise when brushing on the solution to gently pass the brush onto the item. If you apply a lot of pressure then you will definitely get streaks and also bubbles. In addition when you cure the item, in most cases the streaks disappear. I look forward to seeing you finish work with the polygloss.
Thanks for your question. Once you are using the polygloss process you should bake the tile. By baking the tile it’s actually curing it. You don’t need a convention oven. If you have a standard oven that can also work just make sure the temperature is correct and monitor it.
Thanks for your question. You can allow it to cool for 1-2 minutes and then take a damp cloth and slowly pass over the tile so the paper can get wet. With Polygloss sometimes the paper sticks to the item so give it 1-2 minutes to cool, use a damp cloth or get a spray bottle and spray the paper to soak it, then peel it off immediately. I hope this helps.
The PolyGloss is more saturated but is the detail as sharp? I can't tell from the screen but it looks somewhat less sharp to me. Q: how clear is the PolyGloss coating? Is it crystal clear or slightly cloudy?
Thanks for your question. This is a very good question and I am not 100% sure. The UV resistant or Clear Coat stop any damage from getting on top of it but i am not sure if you will be able to stop the sun from impacting it. This question I am honest no 100% sure.
@@atprints You don't want to close the press if you use a heat press! You will not get good results. Just slide the tile between the two plates and let the heat do the work. Don't close the press.
Thanks for your questions. Base on your question, it seems like your temperature or pressure maybe to like. Can you share any details with the temperature and pressure? Once it’s a sublimation tile, it should sublimate beautifully.
An equal test should have the tiles of same size and weight, using the same timings heat and pressure. Using a larger tile to compare against a smaller time is not a fair test, unless of course you are promoting the Polygloss on their behalf as an agent . The larger tile will always win. The process to buy tiles, coat them, us an oven to cure them, the preparation is all time consuming, the smell, the space required does not make this a cheaper way of sublimating.
If you are referring to the tile which Polygloss was applied onto i would say it’s best to keep it in a nice shaded area so the sun would affect it. If you are referring to the actual ready done sublimation tile then yes it can go outdoors.
They cannot go outdoors they will start to fade within 3 months, after 6 months they will start returning to the base colour. There are expensive sprays that can be sprayed over, they only delay fading. UV is the enemy of sublimation, Only the enamaling technique used by the stone masons for example grave pictures will remain with no change over years.
Thanks for your question. I do believe you can however, you might have to let it sit for 1-2 hours after you apply the quote of polygloss then use the press after.
Yes you can. Just place the tile under the heat press, but don't close the press, the heat will cure the poly coating slowly. About 30 minutes would work, or until the coating isn't wet or sticky.
Hello. I have been testing this on tiles after watching your video and getting terrible results. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Product is NGOODIEZ process is the same. I even changed to the sampe paper you are using but still getting poor results? They are coming out streaky and light? Could it be pressure?
Hey thanks for your question. I also saw your email and did response to it. I believe the problem base on seeing your pictures are streaks to the heavy brushing. You may have to be much lighter on the brush.
You literally heat pressed the small one the wrong way. How dumb. Completely destroyed the scientific process, experiment. Otherwise great video. I dont get it. Polygloss is good stuff though.
