Best of the best Chinese food channel I’ve ever subscribed on TH-cam 🤩I now cook Chinese dishes in the comfort of my kitchen/ home, I don’t have to go hunting for takeaways 😊
Looks amazing so is going in the recipe book, I’m the same as you I like the chicken and rice but not the soft skin so I’m sure we will enjoy this more. Thanks again for sharing Asian recipes to bring life to our table!
What I like about this dish is the Simplicity of making it!! The ingredients were very easy to prepare!! I love the idea of roasting the chicken whole in your oven as well as making the rice in the pressure cooker!! Overall this dish looks delicious 😋 to me and I my have found my next Sunday dinner!! Phenomenal 🔥 Video and Thanks for Sharing💗🤍💟🤍💗
Thank you for sharing this recipe. I had just made my Chinese roasted chicken rice a couple of nights ago and used the air fryer instead. I have one large enough for a whole chook. But whole legs work just as good too. Another great recipe, Roland!
You're videos are so wonderful because they have been easy for me to follow and replicate. My son and I both are loving all these new additions to our dinner table as well as my neighbors who I've shared with! Thank you!!
Hi Roland, thanks for sharing. If I am to use the boneless chicken thigh instead of whole chicken, what will happen to the 5 spice marinate. Will it get burnt before thigh is cooked? Thanks
Thanks for checking, Angela. You can marinate the meat side of the chicken with the five spice mix and then skin side with soya sauce then place the chicken meat side down on a baking paper and roast without turning the meat side over. This is our theoretical explanation. Let us try and make a video to show you how soon.
@@spicenpans Thanks for your vids. i love them. Got a question, as you mention five spice burns easily, but i do like the five spice taste, what will happen if i take the five spice powder and mix it with soya sauce for the skin side of the chicken, what will happen when i air fry it? Chao tah?
I have to try this! I love your channel, the Taiwanese chicken sesam and ginger soup you did is something I love, and I make that so many times in dinner with friends and they aaaaall love it. Keep it up!!! ❤️❤️❤️😍
Nice and easy Roland. Is it worth grilling the chicken first up and collecting the fat from chicken underneath and later adding it to rice before cooking?
Thanks Theresa!! Hi FT. Ya. Uncovered will be great. If you’re worried about exposing the chicken too much, you can cover it partially with a dry cloth without touching the chicken.
Hi Uncle Roland thank you so much for this recipe!! Im a Singaporean studying overseas and I will definitely try this and let you know how it goes. Can I ask if you have a video on how to make the chicken rice chilli sauce? Thank you! - Adam
Hi Adam. So good to hear from you. I hope you’re coping well away from home. Here’s our chicken rice chilli recipe th-cam.com/video/UHRJS_V_OWI/w-d-xo.html we have many other Singapore recipes to help you cope with homesickness. Just search the name of the dish that you’re craving for + spice n pans in TH-cam. We may have done those dishes before. Stay safe and happy!
@@spicenpans Thank you so much for your reply and the link you sent! This will definitely make me feel closer to home 😊 Take care and be safe Uncle Roland 🙏🏼
Thanks for this recipe. I have a question. If my chicken is 2.2kg, do I just double the seasoning of salt and five spice power to season the inside of the chicken?
Thanks for your reply 😊Appreciate. Baking time I would presume it will be 40mins at 180 degrees then increase to 200 for 10mins. U think it will be done for such a big chicken?
Thanks for the tip, Louann! But we wanted to let the drip off rather than to let the chicken soak in the oil. Maybe next time we can use baking paper instead. You have a good eye!
Yummy dish! Thanks for showing me this recipe. Will try soon! Roland, will u be able to show us how to cook stir fry prawn with cashew nuts dish? Have been wanting to cook this dish but not sure how. Thanks!!
Hi Celeste. Happy cooking and thanks for your request. Let me see what I can do. Can you describe the dish more? Are you referring to Kung Pao Prawns? If yes then this is our recipe th-cam.com/video/XTQjDgVEhhg/w-d-xo.html
Hi Roland, no not Kung pao prawn. It's a non spicy stir fry prawn with cashew nuts and carrots and maybe celery or other types of vegetables. Not sure if it's Cantonese dish or hokkien dish. Ate before once in restaurant, was very nice. Wonder if you are able to create such recipe.
Hi Roland, what if I don't want to use the whole chicken but just drumsticks? Will the 5 spice burn if I rub it on the skin? Is there any other way? Thank you in advance. 😊
You, your vids and recipes are amazing! My only wish (besides being able to get Asian ingredients in a tiny town) is for written instructions. Thank you.
Thanks so much, Ron. We would love to do that but we’re already struggling to find time just to make these videos. We really have no time to write the steps down. Sorry about that. Good thing is, I’ve written the ingredients in the description box of this video so you can just take a snapshot of it, prepare the ingredients and then watch our video when you’re ready to cook or while you’re cooking. Hope this helps.
What I do is as I watch the video I take down notes including tips and cleaning instructions and then watch it again as I prepare the food, in case I missed out on a step or an ingredient and also to check on the color or anything unsure of. Call me kiasu but I don't want to waste my efforts in recreating the dishes. Do it right the first time haha. So, extra view for the video and also advert dollars for Roland and Jamie 😁
Made this at the weekend Roland and your recipe is brilliant!!! Did it with 1.5kg chicken...but reduce timing a bit to 57mins total roast time and it was super juicy!! One question though, how do you deal with all that smoke from the fat dripping down in the oven??? I'm aware a water pan below would result in the skin not being crispy.
I like that size of chicken. The owns at my Local store only has them from around 5-8 lb birds. I always look for the smallest one when I want to roast one.
Love your channel ! Please may I ask if you have any recipes for students who live in a dorm or for people who do not have access to a kitchen ? I use an electric food warmer which can also steam food,. I have made some pasta and noodles, also some rice but don't have a clue what to do with the chicken. Would love to make some rice and chicken in my electric food warmer / steamer. Thanks once again!.
Hi Roland, I usually cooked steamed chicken but now wish to roast it after watching this video. However need your advice on how do you clean the oven after roasting. 🙏
We just made the rice and gravy element thanks to having a vegetarian in the house the rice was next level amazing and so easy! we cant get pandam leaves easily here so used some celery leaves instead. Thanks for the great recipe!🔥

Chef Roland, thanks for this easy yummy recipe. Does the marinated chicken need to be covered if left in fridge overnight?
