Some musicians managed to make a wonderful use of the DX7, Jan Hammer is the prime example, his cues from Miami Vice are one of the darkest electronic pieces ever.
I asked Stuart Neale (Kajagoogoo) about a sound that was used in the track "Lies and promises" and he said it was created from the Jupiter 8 and that he wished he still had it.
Said so casual, a Roland Sys 100, Korg 700s and a Revox was a LOT of money in 1979 and we in the main didn't have any! Where did they get the cash? (checks in Sheff police crime files 1978-79)
I work with hardware, recording on stand alone multi-tracks. I'm interested in plug-ins, but I'm not looking to computerize my whole set-up and way of making music. What I'm hoping to do is find an affordable way to line my computer into my hardware set-up and get the plug-in coming through as an input signal. Is this possible, from an equipment perspective? What I mean is, is there a wire or something reasonably priced I could use to this end. I know the other way around is more common, ppl looking to run hardware into a DAW. A USB could link the machines, but I don't think I could assign a USB input to a recordable track like that. The USB feature is more for transferring data. I could upload works in progress into my computer and overdub them w the plug ins, but that sort of defeats the purpose, as what I'm looking to do is get the plug-in lined out to my recorder instead of the other way around. My ideal would be getting the computer audio signal sent to a 1/8" regular instrument cable.
Sold a Jupiter-8 for a DX-7 ooooof...... I felt that in my prostate.....

Something I'm also wondering about.
The two guys in HL were computer programmers in 1976 earning a high salary.

Roland D50, not Yamaha, Martyn.
is the jupiter 8 that good? compared to an arp 2600?
Apples & Oranges.
JU 8 is more for poly sounds, smooth textured pads, ARP is all about experimentation, sound effects, leads bass etc
D50 is Roland not Yamaha.
thats what i thought.. the moogs are something else .. not only Kraftwerk but also Logic.. Logic System .. way out !!
Yes, Logic System.
