So cool to stumble upon this trio of videos. Ian Burden is one of my musical heroes and it's so damned cool to hear him speak after such a long silence. So cool to see him at all after being out of the spotlight for so long. I always mourned his loss after he was let go by The Human League. This was such an unexpected treat to blindly stumble upon these videos. This man is a musical legend - highly underrated and criminally overlooked. Kudos for putting him back in the spotlight. He deserves it. Nod in your direction Korg...
My goodness Ian Burden is a GENIUS. I hate that he left The Human League, he was so important in the band. Sigh, I wish Philip would get Ian back for the DARE 40 shows next year!
I wanted to use a volca as a drum machine and loaded it all with linn and dmx samples but then I discovered the step sequence is not polyphonic, so you can play a snare, a kick or a hi hat, but not at the same time 😁
you are absolutely right I was thinking the exact same thing. the bass in empire state human more closely resembles the tempo he is suggesting. circus of death is similar but much slower
I've got your LOOT CD (1989) (mint) off an old friend (says you gave it to him) who was in the record industry from 89. :) I use (re cut the sample at end of "I Dont Care") the goodbyes with jet phase synth sample when i close my shows. :)
I have a lot to thank the Human League's sweet ♥️ s IE Queens Joanne Catherall ♥️ my hero 4 ever making a dream of mine 2 come true for me to meet up with the 2 Human League Sweet ♥️ s IE Queens Joanne Catherall ♥️ and Susan Sulley ♥️ and king Philip Oakey 2 ather a few great Human League gigs that I have been lucky enough to have seen. I wonder if Ian Burden is a good Chess player like I am.
You'd think a company involved in musical instruments wouldn't compress the audio so bad that his voice sounds like a 64kbps mp3 but here were are.. smh

Such an inspiration to me watching this many yrs ago and still inspiring me still to this day! Such a great musician! Awesome 👏
Such an awesome little series! Thanks for making this :D
Brilliant Ian , really enjoyed that and hope your keeping well X 👍
I love synths, they create such a great sound. Dare was such a great album.
I remember in the 80's at the Manchester gig the 8 track breaking down right in to the first song. Rest of that night tho was class
It would be great to get the original dare line up back together, they were the strongest writing team the league ever had.

Legend.
Nice interview though I wish he'd talk more about the process of the old tracks and played them.

1:50 he starts talking about "Circus of Death", but I think he may be describing "Empire State Human". What do you think?
bigjoescientist Nah, Circus of Death has the juddering bass he's talking about.

I stand corrected !! It was Empire State Human. I'm old and it was a long time ago . . . being questioned on the spot . . .
I do a very stupid marching dance to Empire State Human but only in the privacy of my own home with no witnesses present.
ian Burden Oops. love your pre-league work, Drowning is a classic.
You can buy his album on PledgeMusic now! :)

Great set of videos *dusts off the Volca keys again*
Why Volca Keys is so underrated?
I think at first glance ppl think of them as toys because of their small design....but they are anything but..
Phil Oakey said you were an art history professor is that true?
what does that have to do with being an art history professor you pillock
