The DS seems to essentially bitcrush everything, so the harsh digital sound is definitely part of things. There's also the likelihood of a specific scale being forced on everything you make, which means even random assortments of notes tend to sound at least acceptable.

Bassball was great, by my favorite is High Five! Its crazy how he managed to get 5/4 time into a medium that only supports 4/4. I imagine that was a nightmare to work with.
I'd love if somebody made a 10 minute dance fish, because that was just an absolute BOP! in the meantime, I'm happy to watch the whole video just for that one song, cause the whole thing is a bop!

To me, they were just silly sounds that I ignored because they didn't seem to fit. Just goes to show how incredible Louie is at making music. Man, this game means so much to me. It got me into gamedev, coding and music production when I was an impressionable young tween. Wish that more people had experienced it... actually, we should get this game back in the public eye. Bring back Warioware DIY!
hearing all the weird voices and sound effects really takes me back to when I played this game, though I was never skilled enough to make any tunes on it. Great work here!

Oh hell yeah! WarioWare DIY was one of my favorite games as a kid! I always wanted to get into making games and this game was just perfect for me. Short little minigames that were easy to make but there was just enough complexity so that you could make something cool and interesting. The tools they had were an absolute joy to use. I still pop the cartridge into my DS every once in a while to check out the games, music, and comics I had made. This is great, thanks for making this
Absolutely love the art for this album. The grainy low-def aesthetic and limited color palate is super appealing to me, and nobody seems to be talking about it. Was the app of choice procreate or MS Paint?
the range of this album!! these are wonderful, i have sooooo much nostalgia for that game!!! at first i had to blindly navigate the japanese version because it took so long to get localized, which was possible because of the amazingly tactile and living UI of the game. it got me both into making games and music and i spent so much time creating things with it, let alone really getting started on youtube thanks to it. I remember having fun handling 6/8 songs with it, sorting out a 5/4 time must've been something! I love how you're using the player's feature to complete the tracks and taking advantage of the looping and the sfx to use the beginning of some tracks as an outro. The speed slider was my absolute favorite thing to play around with so the way you did it for bassball leaves my jaw on the floor, absolutely outstanding
sure beats what I used to do, which was to take the premade songs, change all the instruments to the 8-bit set and make up a fake game series for them to be the soundtrack to
Hey, Louie, love your work! Did you ever play Electroplankton on the DS? It's not quite such a robust set of tools as this but it has some fun little synth-y bits presented with cute animals.
