Excellent video. A trick I learned from a friend regarding the bolts. Get a piece of cardboard and draw a rough sketch of the valve body with holes punched in the proper places. As you remove each bolt, stick it in its spot in the cardboard diagram.

Sir, you are a blessing in the highest order. Your use of the small allen to retain the shift lever is simple and should be intuitive but intuitive in this case comes with a tall learning curve. Hi, many thanks for this video! I need your help, would really appreciate. I have a different car, but same transmission. If you don't put the Allen wrench to prevent the linkage from the stepper motor from moving, what happens? Does it prevent it from shifting or the car doesn't move at all? I had the shop do solenoids replacement (one was stuck, the car wouldn't move), now it moves, but they say it doesn't shift. And there are no codes so far, as they say. So I've watched your video and realized that they might not know this. Thank you!

Just another piece of advice for you all. I replaced my stepper motor but it didn’t work. I realized I needed to change the valve body BECAUSE I noticed the ratio control valve/rod was jamming therefore not allowing the ratio to change. This also causes a 1778 code because the stepper motor is connected to it. So make sure the rod slides in and out without difficulty.

It's REALLY NOT that difficult. Most important tips, keep your hands clean, keep track of all the varying size bolts and where they go, TORQUE EVERYTHING back to spec, and obviously anticipate the costs to refill with fresh fluid. Christ sake don't use guess work on tightening 50 cent bolts on a 4500.00 CVT transmission. OH and don't be the idiot who uses their DeWalt drill to install the bolts, save the DeWalt for another day 😂

Having these same issues with 2007 altima 2.5 s 277k miles, but it's not showing any codes. I've replaced both speed sensors on the transmission and the problem persists. Without the codes present, should I still try to replace the stepper motor and see if that helps or would you assume it is something else causing this issue?

Thank you for providing this helpful video! It enabled me to successfully repair my 2008 Nissan Rogue. The tutorial's instructions on removing the bolts from the valve body were accurate. I took the extra step of labeling all the screws from the valve. I strongly advise wearing protective goggles, as it can be quite a messy job. Based on my experience, I also recommend labeling the transmission pan bolts to avoid any mix-ups, which I encountered. Additionally, I applied silicone to the pan and allowed it to cure for 24 hours before adding the CVT oil. I measured the amount of oil drained and added the same quantity. After starting the engine, I shifted between gears to ensure the CVT fluid circulated through the transmission. Initially, I noticed a bit of sluggishness in acceleration for the first few minutes, but after about five minutes, the vehicle ran smoothly without any issues. Many thanks and God bless you for sharing this invaluable video!

Well unfortunately, Matt Nick, today was not a good day either. I now have replaced the valve body and I also could not get the car to accelerate to 2nd gear. Ran like a bat out of ---- in 1st gear and reverse but that was all……so disappointing as I have wasted money on a stepper motor and now a valve body that I had ordered both from eBay. Glad to those of you who’ve had success with this maintenance procedure. Nice video Budget Drift and well, I tried. Looks like CVT replacement for me…….

Man I think you might have saved my a$$ I mean it. I just ran into the same problem with my 09 Nissan Altima yesterday on my way to work it drove perfectly fine to the gas station then when I filled up and drove off it was stuck in 1st. I gave up on it until today then I ran my diagnostic computer on it and seen the code it shot me looked it up and your video came up along with a hell of a lot of other ones but out of every video I seen you explained everything down to the very end so easily a teenager could pull this off I promise. Now I've been working on cars and trucks and anything else that requires tools to be used on for more than 30 years but I've never done anything on a CVT transmission in my life and this will be my 1st time but thanks to your help im now sure I can pull it off 100% now. Thanks man for your time you spent on making this video you posted on TH-cam your very much appreciated I promise. I'll let you know how things come out after I finish mine I HV to pull my step motor off my transmission 1st to be able to match it up because it seems to HV 2 or 3 different kinds so I'm going to get started on it right now. Thanks again bro your the best
