Throughout my career I have seen many mechanics that didn't ever understand how important load testing circuits really is. Test and verify before you utter the phrase "it's got to be...." Great video as always Sir!

Perfect timing. I just purchased a ICP sensor on ebay. Looked at the black connector and no writing or white dot. It's a FAKE and it was in a offical ford bag. I now think the ebay IPR is a fake also. Can't wait for the video on them. I'm new to 7.3l so it's a learning experience. Good work. Thanks

RiffRaff Diesel. Order from them, you will always get genuine Motorcraft parts. You will pay a fair price.

For people who don't do this very often along with this video, there is a product that I've found useful...LOADpro Dynamic Test Leads with trouble shooting book. It's an accessory test lead for your multimeter that makes load testing easier. The trouble shooting book does a good job of laying out different scenarios.

to me your channel is like a knowledge library or anything about 7.3. I found how to fix all issues on my 95 f-350 except for one problem. I have flickering Fuel Filter light but truck runs fine. but besides that everything else your channel helped me with. Thank You

There is a plunger that allows fuel Into the bowl only when a filter is there allot of people remove it yours could be gummed up otherwise is most likely the screens in the fuel tank pick-up are clogged up

I completely understand the Genuine vs Amazon quality, however I keep a stock of Amazon sensors, IPR, etc...in my truck in case of a roadside emergency. I'll deal with the OEM once i get home. I also make sure i carry all the fun wrenches and code reading equipment to change out these items myself roadside if needed. I know this is a low budget spin the roulette wheel safeguard, but........450,000 miles on the excursion (AKA Exxon Valdez). Good job Clint.

I know what your sayin, I have a 1997 ,l last year of the obs,its got 580 k on it. I'm the original owner. The only way to keep it this long is to watch guys like Clint Allen so you can fix it yourself other wise way too expensive.

If anyone can assist…Replaced all 8 glow plugs a few months ago, no issues. Code popped for GP 4. Inspected GP control module, looks like the pin for GP 4 got very hot at some point (slightly melted plastic on module & connector). Replaced the module with and connector pigtail with OEM, same code persisted.
Popped the valve cover, GP wire was connected well but surprisingly the GP was open. Replaced #4 GP with OEM, code still persists. Tested GP 4 wire, 12V present when KOEO.
The only thing left to change that I can think of is the UVCH or the valve cover gasket connector pigtail.
Truck starts fantastic and runs absolutely great.
Anything else you’d suggest as far as troubleshooting and or replacing parts? Thanks.

Can you load test/continuity test between the idm and pcm plugs specifically the 818 feedback signal,817 cylinder id,821 fuel delivery input,359 signal return and if so do you have to have harness plugged in or everything unplugged? Please help thanks

Hey Clint, could you do a video on what “heathy” numbers we should be looking for on FORScan for icp, ipr, APP, etc?
I got a 96 7.3 204k , doing a buzz test and everything sounds good but I get a p1668 idm to pcm com. Error. Truck smokes white on start up but clears up after driving. Truck idles great on start up but starts to miss on idle after driving. Just doesnt have good power at all. Got a p1211 the other day while putting the pedal down hard. restart the truck and it reset.
Icp is new, ipr is new, valve cover harnesses new, ebps new.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for all the videos they’ve been a great help.

Can you direct me to the physical location of all the wiring harness wires and plugs on my 2002 excursion? I have the wiring diagram, but in this case, the pink/ blk wire goes through several connectors, the PCM, a connector by the firewall that appears to grom FROM the insertia switch to the fuel pump, the inertia switch, the fuel pump and 2 or 3 others which I cannot locate, without perhaps taking the truck apart. I’d like to get to them more directly.
Fuel pump was not running and had the 231 code. With pump and inertia switch disconnected Key ON I read 6.6V on the pink/ blk wire. I hot wired the pump to the battery and the truck started and ran. PCM had a warranty so I sent it in. They sent it back. I hooked it back up, no more 6.6V and now the pump runs, but the truck will not start. I don’t know if they fixed 1 thing and broke something else, or if there actually is something else. I guess one way to find out is to hot wire the pump again and see if it runs, cause it did before I sent in the PCM. If yes, then I’m not sure where to look next. If no, I have even ore questions.
Can a normal F250 PCM be swapped in? The 2002 Excursion has the “security” and I was told on a web forum if you put a normal PCM in there, the truck would start, it would just ignore the security. I have a 2000 F250 so I could easily swap and see if the truck starts, which would indicate the PCM is the issue.

for the detailed info you need for a excursion best to go this way www.identifix.com/direct-hit/direct-hit-diy/ They have a diy sub that is invaluable / The excursion is very complicated for the diy er and this has schematics, location pictures, and much more

@@CUSTOMWORKS7.3PSD SO I bit the bullet and tore the fuse box apart. That sucked. Replaced the Fuel pump relay. I traced it from the fuel pump fuse and used the meter to figure out which one it was. There were 5 little relays in there soldered on the circuit board. What a joke! I really didn’t think it was the relay since the fuel pump was running and I could hear and feel it, but when I got it back together the dang truck started right up. Simultaniously all the check engine light is gone. The codes must not be stored in the COMPUTER because that had been out of the truck for a couple of weeks but the codes were still there when I put it back. Even with the bats disconnected that whole time, the codes were still there, but after having the fuse box removed for 2 days, the check engine light is OFF. Regardless of whatever else is wrong I know 3 Glow Plugs didn’t fix themselves. I expect the persistent codes to come back after a couple of drives.
Is it possible to disable the PATS entirely and just use a normal F250 Computer? I have a 2000 (2 years older) and I’d like to try that PCM in the Excursion, but I definitely don’t want to damage it in the process. THe F250 runs much better, and people have suggested someone flashed it. I think just swapping it would let me know simply because if the excursion suddenly wakes up, then it has to be the PCM programming. My understanding is the computer looks to the PATS to see if the key is correct and that if I put an older PCM in it from a non-PATS truck, it would just not ask the PATS about the key, and the truck would just start. CLearly if that is true, the Excursion computer would NOT work in the F250 since there is no PATS for it to talk to. Are the PCM connections the same other than that PATS connection? Is there a risk of damage by simply putting the F250 computer in the excursion? These Ex computers run about a grand, and an F250 computer i about $250. Next time the PCM breaks I would really really prefer not to spend another thousand. Can you tell me more about that? BTW, if you want to take it off YT, my email is my.name no spaces + “inc" at gmail. No @ sign.
