    fun fact , aside of the named hero's (and their special sculpts) you could buy medival french knights and peasant foot soldiers from a historical game and play them as breton's in warhammer fantasy. it safes a ton of money.

    Really enjoyable video. I’ve ordered many 28mm from Perry and Warlord (European medieval knights, Japanese samurai), and loved them. Now, I’m thinking of a third army option: Normans, so thank you for that possible future endeavor! But, looking around Victrix after your video, I just ordered a WWII starter combo of Brits vs Germans 144th scale, two playable forces to try out the game. Main rules set is sold out, but that can wait until after assembly and painting. I’m a big WWII buff, and I think I’m going to highly enjoy this set. If so, I’m sure to expand to more armor, different forces, etc. So, thank you for introducing me to Victrix! Much appreciated, keep up the stellar work!

    Norman must be a really popular guy having all those miniatures named after him. nyuk, nyuk, nyuk. Great video guys, and cool change of pace. Why 28 mm though? Why don't they make them in 30 mm? I like nice round numbers with a 0 at the end. Seriously, I am curious how the size of the figures is decided on by the companies.

    • @BockwinkleB
      @BockwinkleB 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      A lot of the old 80s minis were 25 / 28 mm. Going for retro I guess.

    • @theoldwarlock
      @theoldwarlock  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey FF! I was trying to figure this out just a few days ago and couldn't find a definitive answer. I think there's some cultural inertia involved from much older war game miniature production at the 25mm size. But, manufacturers kept slowly increasing size of figures to make them easier to paint and it seems like 28mm was arrived at a number of years ago. That size creep continues today with a lot of 28mm minis actually getting close to 35mm. So, things that are said to be 28mm range in scale from 1:56 to 1:72.

    • @FinieousFingers1976

      @@theoldwarlock Thanks for the surmise. It makes sense. Ending in 5 works. I used the old lead (pewter?) miniatures for D&D, but never thought much of the size. And I was terrible at painting. Figured it was just a bunch of blokes sitting at the pub pounding down bitters and decided 28 mm was the perfect number. Now it seems that as they got older and their eyesight got worse, they made them bigger to be easier to paint. LOL I can see the Old Warlock with his 5 horse hair brush and giant magnifying light squinting at the new Normans as he paints them. 😉

    Hi, from the other side of the pond; Royal Mail here gets a lot of stick however they are very good at what they do, and I alway worry when good are not transported by them, and so far ( years and years ) have had no problem with them. I am currently looking at victrix early republican romans (4 bags will do for a historical army complete)...
    Also Lion Rampant is a regular game for me and in addition to a good game (easy and quick to learn) the force are small (40-60 models) with different troop types per 6 or 12 models making painting quick and varied.
    Furthermore I used to get the 'doll' syndrome from my family years ago, it stopped after I sold about half of my collection to buy my first car outright for cash.....

    Only just found this video, but perhaps you were not aware that Monday, the 27th of May was "Spring Bank Holiday" here in the UK this year: a national "day off". So it wasn't a "business day" and it is very unlikely that Victrix had any staff that day to process your order.

    Remember, Warhammer Fantasy is just the Medieval/Early Renaissance European period with a fantasy theme added. The basic human miniatures are simply historical figures "with the fancy Warhammer detailing that adds nothing to the game but plenty to the price". Also remember that only the commander's immediate troops are likely to have the exact same equipment and "uniform" every other unit would usually be different in dress or weapons although fighting in the same style. Historical miniatures wargames allow for this by NOT restricting figure choice even when associated with a particular miniatures manufacturer.

    The thing about historical miniatures is that it can still be fantasy. I am working on 15ml Mongols who are going to charge a marine Regiment. No aircraft, armoured vehicles, or artillery outside of mortars. I started this after a muppet claimed the US Marines would wet themselves when confronted by a Mongol Tumen, 10,000. Having said that, he stripped the marines of every weapon and protection that would normally equip a regiment. I feel this is total BS, that the Marines would happily stand their ground against superior numbers if they are not emasculated and expected to fight bare hands. And I'm not even a Yank.
