Wow you guys. I been running c.o.c dark ages for a few years i use the ad&d spells simplified for the witches seers and oracles and basically use the classes warriors wizards holy men and thieves. Combat is so simple. The ghoul tries to claw your face off do you dodge or fight back.... I been playing roleplaying games since 1985 and got stuck being dm since i love it. Cthulhu and ad&d are my two favorites so being sble to mix them in dark ages is perfect.

Oh, I'd also add, a couple of years ago I swore off using a DM's screen. Nowadays, I use a few charts on the desk and a couple of angled screens on the side of my desk. The main central part of my DMs table is open to the players and they see all my rolls, (including times when I'm rolling for things they're not yet aware of.) #NoFudgeD&D

The use of imagery in general in RPG is a great topic. A photograph speaks more than a thousand words. But at the same time the more you show the less space it leaves for your own imagination to fill the gaps, so it's a double edge sword.

I started playing in the late 70's. It was a terrifying, dangerous game back then. It wasn't fair, it wasn't balanced, it wasn't equal, but it was raw and real.

Undead must be scary: we agree! Knowing about level drain is scary: we agree! Suffering level drain is NOT scary...it's frustrating. There are better options than giving players a feeling that the last hours, days,...years of collecting XP were just a waste of time.

How did I never see this video of yours? I just got lucky and it came up in my feed, after I watched your most popular video again, which I then shared on my fb page, again, and will share it in a community post later this week, most likely. Hey guys, I also wanted to let you both know (don't remember if I mentioned this before or not) that I wrote Book Two, and narrated it on my channel as well. I believe Jim was listening to my narration of Book One and was enjoying it. Hope you finished it, Jim : ) I've also written two Short Stories since, and narrated them as well. They're both in their own Playlist, if you're interested. Anyway, in Book Two, the intro and outro music I use is more thematic to the story, so I hope you both check it out, and if you guys feel like leaving a comment, letting me know what you think, that would be great, as I'd love to chat with you about my story, and D&D in general. Now I just need to find the inspiration to write Book Three, Four & Five. It took me over a year to start writing Book Two, so here's hoping it comes to me at some point. Lastly, I find the criticisms from your most popular video to be pretty funny. I will never understand how WotC D&D became so popular, seeing how they ruined the game, imo. I guess marketing really is king.

If you think 5th edition is better, that's fine, but no one should say that? Um, no. You should absolutely be allowed to express your opinion, regardless of whether or not you can back it up. What we shouldn't be doing is fighting each other over it. We can argue, disagree, and debate it, as long as it's civil. If that's what you meant, then yes, I completely agree, but I think 5th edition is garbage, as is 3rd and 4th edition. WotC DnD fundamentally changed the game and turned it into a bunch of Super Heroes, which is why Gary Gygax ripped 3rd edition when he said "The new D&D is too rule intensive. It's relegated the Dungeon Master to being an entertainer rather than master of the game. It's done away with the archetypes, focused on nothing but combat and character power, lost the group cooperative aspect, bastardized the class-based system, and resembles a comic-book superheroes game more than a fantasy RPG..." I have no problem with anyone saying why 1st or 2nd edition D&D sucks. If they can't discuss it amicably though, then I just ignore them.

This remains the best comparison for 1st Edition AD&D and 5th Edition DnD that I've ever seen. It clearly demonstrates what the fundamental problem is with WotC DnD, that being that they turned the Characters into Super Heroes, which is not what D&D is about.

There are pros and cons of both systems, but actually I like that you hit more often in 5e compared to AD&D because you have fewer turns where do don't feel you accomplish anything. One thing I liked better in AD&D that in 5e was that you had fewer hit points. That being said back when we played AD&D 2nd edition the PCs got really powerful over time and could kill pretty much anything past a certain point.

Wherever you put a mine, someone probably already lives there. Coal mines frequently catch fire and burn underground for years, and some mines have uranium, so it might not be safe to hang out there very much. Also, some mines have ore of such low grade that they are never profitable.

I have The Deck of Contradiction, but no party to play with. Maybe this summer with the paleontology folk?

I assume you've read "The Magic Goes Away" by Larry Niven. You should also read "Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex" by the same author...the second one is short, and available free online.

In real life, some people have crows as familiars. They feed the crows, and the crows bring them "STUFF". It tends to be little token things, but I think they do recognize which items the person is more or less pleased with.

I love watching you guys argue at the beginning of the video. I wouldn't skip that part.

The player in me wants to know, if you wreck a Wagon of Holding does the spell break and all the full mass of what was in it suddenly come into existence?

The wagon idea makes me want to make a barrel of holding or chest of holding. It holds a huge amount but is itself awkward to carry around. Just imagining you have one pc or henchman who’s job is just to carry the barrel of holding strapped to his back into the dungeon like a backpack just barely able to move.
