    "The Sopranos", also known as "Pilot", is the first episode of the HBO television drama series, The Sopranos, which premiered on January 10, 1999. It was written and directed by the series creator and executive producer David Chase.
    Synopsis
    It is New Jersey, summer 1998. New Jersey mobster Tony Soprano, a capo in the DiMeo crime family, has been referred to a psychiatrist, Dr. Jennifer Melfi, after having a panic attack. Tony tells her he is a waste management consultant, but she knows who he is. After Melfi establishes what will and will not fall under doctor-patient confidentiality, Tony begins to partly open up.

    YES!! Lorna finally said it: "SHE'S WICKED!"🤣 And Colin, of course, knew she was faking dementia. Love it! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 And how Tony's sub-conscious made Livia alot better-looking in his hallucinations!😂

    Oh honey, we all know how you've been feeling. You are trying to reconcile the fact act you love Tony despite him being in the mob. We've all been there. :)

    In the 70's, our teachers hugged & kissed us on the cheek at end of school year to congratulate us if we were promoted to the next grade. Also for graduation, other things, like winning a spelling bee or a ribbon, trophy at a track meet. It was all completely legit. Nice memories. Now, about all that physical contact between Tony & Melfi... 🚩🚩🚩

    The character Livia was named after Livia Drusilla, the wife of Augustus, the first Emperor of Rome.
    There is one theory about Livia in Rome history.
    'Livia killed everyone' that was in the way of her son Tiberius, from a previous marriage, to attain the mantle of Emperor after Augustus death.
    It is a fascinating story to read about.
    Cheers.

    Just a heads up, later in the run of the show the seasons became longer. With 12 episodes watched, you still have 74 to go. Which will take you to early summer 2025 ! Other reactors have done two episodes at a time !

      They didn’t fall into the trap of many successful US shows that go to 24 episodes per season, but I think by season 6 they were up to 21!

    “Family has to count for something” you say. You hit on the premise of the entire series. Trying to live within 2 families (personal family & mob family) & keeping them separate so one doesn’t destroy the other.
    When guys become “made” they take an oath that puts their mob family needs ABOVE the needs of their real family if there’s a conflict between them. This is a constant battle for all the characters with a real family. It’s ez for Jr because he never married & has no children. Also realize this 2 family mob life is a crack in the mafia code the Feds take advantage of. They pick married mobsters with kids as targets to be informants knowing the threat of long term prison sentence means more to a guy with a personal family than to one without. This mob family vs real family dynamic is the overall lense you should use to understand the show.

    Hey, I've been enjoying your channel for a few weeks now! Just a tip on getting a reaction channel started: mafia movies are always hot, your main ones there are Goodfellas, Casino, Donnie Brasco. Star Wars stuff is evergreen if you go through the series in the original order. Lord of the Rings is great, but it's a huge time commitment lol! Otherwise, look for pop culture hits: Quentin Tarrantino movies get a lot of attention: Pulp Fiction first, then Reservoir Dogs, then Kill Bill 1 & 2, then maybe Inglorious Basterds and Django Unchained and Hateful Eight. People like action, scifi, thrillers/ mysteries, mob movies, heist movies, con man movies, horror, stuff like that. Good luck!

    I think you hit it on the head. Junior's beef is legitimate. But I do think it's a misread of Junior's feelings with family counting for something. He was sick throughout the whole episode at doing it. Trying his best not to think about it.
    At this point, I'm mostly curious about what kinda fans you'll be of the show. It's interesting!

    The weird thing about Tony, for all his flaws, not being particularly good husband included, he loves his mother (at this point, at least), that's why he is in denial on his subconscious and can't even fathom the thought. I think, as presented in the show, he is a good son, he also takes it a lot as a family duty, to care about his mother.
    I just find Livia funny, she is obviously not a good person (in the list of top 10 most hated TV characters apparently), she played uncle Junior like a child, just because she was upset about the house, and I find it hilarious, also every time she moans how pathetic her life is and that she should die.
    Also, funny thing about Sopranos and Tony being anti-hero with whom we sympathize. I think none of the episodes are presented from the "normal" POV, of non-involved person, only from the POV of "the family" that interacts with outside world as some other universe. It's a neat trick, because it some point you kind of lose track of it and things presented become normal (all these rules and oaths, hierarchy, family interaction, weird language they use to say things without saying things, all that).

      I wouldn't consider tony an anti-hero.

    • @Hexon66
      @Hexon66 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@natea2247 You're right. Tony isn't an anti-hero. People have so misinterpreted that archetype, it's virtually irretrievable at this point.

    • @nickrubin7312
      @nickrubin7312 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@natea2247 well, he is a hero in his own story, he just isn't a good guy, in fact he is bad guy (no, not complex, not grey character, he is objectively, by the norm of society, a bad guy, a cheater, and murderer, all that, by choice btw, and yet audience still loves him), which was new back in the day. I just used the term they used in the intro, which I feel a fair characterization from certain point of view.
      It like the same argument about Walter White being kinda villain of the BB story.
      semantics and terms, wouldn't get all deep about it, as for interpretation - I wouldn't pretend to discuss archetypes and talk how people should and shouldn't feel about characters, all opinions are valid imo, would get on high horse of one correct opinion about it
