From what I've read, you shouldn't use mineral spirits to clean tires-it can damage the anti-aging components of the tires, and will soften the rubber. Liquid dish detergent, or Simple Green, should suffice for general tire cleaning. *SHINE:* Thank you for this comparison; I did find it useful. I would like to see a comparison between _Meguiar’s_ and _Black Magic,_ and a comparison between _Armor All Original_ and _Armor All Tire Shine._
If you're wiping tires off, you're wasting time and effort. Plenty of products are spray once or twice and done. I like the Armor All Extreme tire shine. It lasts a long time. People ask me all the time what I use on my tires. I use two coats 15-30 minutes apart.
Yes, that would be the correct method. Applying the product and twenty seconds later.. wiping the product off? Hellooooooooooooo? Anybody home??????????
Pledge! Yellow regular can. That’s the perfect product for deep black, matte finish, zero sling, lasts long, cheap to buy. Sprays on like a foam, so very controllable. Try it!
I mean they're called tire shine because they're suppose to make your tires have some shine. Not meant to just make them look clean but dual. I think the meguiars tire gel works pretty damn good though, an easiest to use . I wanna try some turtle wax products though.
Funny,....the key word in name of all these products is “SHINE” and he wipes it all off so they won’t be “shiny”. One is even called “WET and black” . I want to see this guys review on car wax. Where he applies it then strips it all off to get dull mat finish. Lol.
Great video buddy quick question where can I get that kneeling rolling stool you use in this video? Do you find it better on your body the the regular sitting stools out there?
This isn't really a comparison test. The products state in the directions to let them dry and you're immediately wiping the product dry with a towel. I know its not your style but use the product as stated otherwise this isn't a fair test.
Since the turtle wax wet n black (spray can) is so cheap, I use it on wheel arches and even some weather tech mats.... knocking it down before putting back in the car. Great videos, I enjoy ur topics.
I dont do this often, but if I really want to strip and don't have mineral spirits (or even if I do) ill use my all purpose cleaner at full strength for the initial spray on, agitate and rinse of the tire. I might do that twice. Or. You could wait until they dry and do a nice mineral spirits on a rag wipedown. No need to over think it, you just want the tire as clean as possible before applying your tire shine or coating. My favorite is meguiars hyper dressing 1:1....this video is pretty old lol
Hey brother that armor all tire foam is great for a quick engine bay detail. When you're really tight or if you wanted to speed up the engine bay spray it on let it sit for 5 minutes and then wipe off. Gives a satin look. Good video. Keep grinding
Do you have to be careful with some of the tire shine that have alcohol in them? It is not good at all for the wheel wells. I have a Tesla model Y and I use that black fire, wet tire shine, and it definitely messed up my wheel wells, and burn the plastic, and now they are very spotty. Also, the tires after some time of use it will burn the robber, and then you cannot get it to shine with anything else.
Jay Leno is good stuff. Does last a long time for a water based tire shine. It is shiner tire shine. I have had a problem with sling though even with knocking it down
I hate all tire dressings. I want to not pay more than 6 and have it last for a year. But I don't want to pay for 30 to 50 for a tire coating...because it's a damn tire. So aggravating! ;) I use vrp. I know it's not the best or durable but when I do my interior, I don't have to reach for another product. I'm just a WW anyway. Works for me.
Theres water based dressings and silicone dressings. Aerosol spray I like because it goes on evenly without any runs or wet spots. Maguires reflect tire shine I go to. But you have to clean your tires first to achieve a great finished look.
I have tire dressing that slung off my tires on my JLUR (dealership put it on when I used one of my 4 free oil changes - never again haha) and got all over my tab soft top. Really hoping I can get it out. Little black blotches
From one Nick to another, and since you like a product that you can knock down into a good matte black finish, I have a video request for you. It's my new favorite tire shine. Cover All by Superior Products (Found at Oreilly's in an aerosol can). I myself like to just spray it on and leave it as is, but if you knock it down in pretty positive that it'll give results that you like! It's also great as far as not overspraying a lot because of the way it shoots out of the can. Check it out Nick! You won't be disappointed!
VRP is a great water based product & fairly inexpensive but I prefer for tire dressing using Griots Garage black shine gel for tires & use same product in aerosol can for inside fender wheels. Only be careful it slings bad on white cars, be sure to wipe off excess. I like that Griots black shine leaves an even coat around tire when dry; other retail products tend leave run marks or show dry patches when dry.
The very best tire shine is Maguiar's hybrid ceramic wax--hands down!!!!! They look new and clean for weeks--not like some oily slop no mechanic wants to handle. I like this guy's approach too. He's obviously also not into having tires that look smeared in vasoline. I have a new can of Dub I doubt I'll be using. As for actual tire shine---Amour All's natural finish comes out good but doesn't last.
Question: Michelin MTS defenders have orange oil in them. What do you think about Essential orange oil? Not the frangrance oil. pure essential orange oil on. them. Would it be safe and serve as a protectant?
Dude by using a rag.. you literally just took all the dressing off!!!! Use a sponge! It absorbs the dressing, but by squeezing and pressing on it , it releases the product onto the tire...
Why do this? Like some of the rest said. Tire Shine..... Not matte or dull. If you want that, wash it and leave it alone. " We want the gloss"!!!!!! Oh yeah putting paint thinner ( " mineral spirits") on rubber is gonna dry them out too quickly and make them dry rot.

To replace VRP have you not tried Meguiars hyper dressing? It's been my go to for a few months now because of the fact it's able to be diluted depending on what I'm dressing
+Detailing 4U I’ve tried hyper dressing at various dilutions. I love the smell. But didn’t love the product all that much for tires. It was great on rubber floor mats until customers told me they were “slippery”-so I stopped dressing mats at all after that🤷♂️
Why are you wiping the dressing from the tires and not letting. Shine. Not doing the job correctly you need to let it dry on the tires then they will shine with a glossy lock and will last a few days depending on the dressing they could last 2 weeks or a few days .
Use trim shine or original armorall stop wasting tire shine also if you have time you should let tire shine sit for 2/3 hours then wipe with a tire sponge
