Willie Nelson once said “There are two types of men in the world: those who are in love with Bonnie Raitt, and those who’ve never heard of her.” I would guess there are very few men or women over the age of 40 who are in the second group, and a whole lot of us in the first.@@jamesnorrisbarrett8927
No one does it better than Bonnie, don't waste your time. She has so many songs to listen to. She's been my favorite female singer since the 70's. She's has a beautiful spirit that shines through all of her music. If you want to a soul crushing experience listen to "Just Like That", one of the most powerful songs of her career. Written and produced by Bonnie, it received a Grammy in 2022 for song of the year.
Listen to Chase Truran 's version, you might get a pleasant surprise. She was 19 at the time, just listen and see what you think.Actually she was 20.She too had a beautiful voice
Out of her pop hits i love Have a heart from a Denzel movie, one part be my lover, all at once, you and nick of time. Most people just stick to this, the whole album is fire.
Her haunting voice combined with Bruce Hornsby's incredible piano just makes this magical. Sure- there are some great covers...but there's just nothing to compare with this.
Best howling at the moon ,accepting your grief love song ever . Gives dignity to losing at love. Think you might have choked up a bit, I’ve sobbed openly to this song many times back in the day. She is a amazing musician
Yes this is amazing Her pianist on this is Bruce Hornsby (amazing), but she is so special. She is a great slide blues guitarist as well, one of the greatest ever. In 2023, she won best song grammy for her own song, Just Like That, which is emotional and surprising. I highly recommend that. As for her slide blues talents, almost any song is great, but more recent live versions of Love Me Like A Man will show her guitar prowess, as well as her voice. I Can't Make You Love Me can make a stone cry.
Anyone who has loved someone but had to let them go feels these powerful lyrics and they can always take you back to the time and place with them whether it was a day, a year, or a decade ago. One of the most beautiful "break up" songs.
We've all loved someone who didn't love us back. I think that's why so many identify with this song - a very human experience. Actually not my favorite of hers, but it's beautiful and haunting. Plus Bruce Hornsby on piano is a nice touch.
The tear flood gates have opened already…I have heard this at least 100 times. Saw her perform it live, not a dry in the house. It’s as RAW as they come.
I think most of us, at some point or another, have been THERE. To realize that you are not as important in some else's world as they are in yours....or to be made to feel as if you are an after thought. Always tread lightly in affairs of the heart....
I'm so glad you finally got to listen to this song, Salvo. It is by far one of the most beautiful and heart-wrenching songs every written and Bonnie Raitt absolutely kills it.
Definitely one of the best musical compositions of all time, as you pointed out SalvoG. As well your reaction(s) are the best (for those of us who join you) because (unlike others) you wait for the entire emotional experience before commenting.
The vocals of this are a single take recording. She laid it down once in the studio and didn't think she could do it again. That adds to the brilliance of this.
🎉🎉🎉A powerful song and a very universal song 🎉🎉🎉 millions upon millions have been or found themselves in that kind of situation. So, it really taps a chord in people's hearts 💕. 😢😢😢 Love this song. Love LOVE your reaction. ❤❤❤
I’ve loved Bonnie for years! Saw her in concert twice at Shoreline Amphitheater. She has many many beautiful songs. Another great one is “Guilty” 🌻💜👵🏼✌🏼
This is one of the most covered songs by singers since it became a hit for Bonnie. It's a perfect showcase for being able to emote for those singers that can do so. Bonnie won Song of the Year Grammy just last year for Just Like That when she was 73... definitely worth listening to.
Probably the most heartbreaking lyrics of any any "my heart is broken" love song out there. And of course Bonnie kills it. I was fortunate enough to see her live many years ago. Great reaction.
The primary writer, Mike Reid, is a former 1st round draft pick and all-pro NFL defensive lineman for the Cincinnati Bengals. He was an absolute beast who retired early because he didn't want to do any more damage his hands. He was a classically trained pianist, and he loved music more than football. He has written a ton of hit songs for others and had one hit himself.
A very "adult" or mature song. Coming to the realization that while someone may like you and enjoy your company, they will never love you regardless how much you love them. Yeah, a lot of us have been through that. The lyrics tell of someone who won't carry on and make a fool out of themselves over a lost cause (like too many people do).
Bonnie is my Queen of blues/rock Unbelievable guitar, incredible voice and all the blues funkiness Of the blues greats she learned from. So much emotion when she sings, this song and Angel from Montgomery just level me ❤️❤️
This song still brings tears to my eyes, even after all these years. It was released about a year after my divorce, after nine years of marriage. I was a broken man, in ways that still haunt me, and this song spoke to me, not only in ways that reminded me of my ex but also because of the failure to connect with anyone else other than for one-night stands, and with a woman I thought was separated but ended up still being married, whom I fell for and then stopped seeing, but not over that, over my own issues upon opening up to her on a deeper level. I spiraled deeper into my brokenness and, after other heartbreaks, I knew my trauma was too deep to bring it into another relationship. So, after about 15 years of half-hearted attempts at love, I stopped trying about 17 years ago and have been alone ever since. However, after all these years, I've somewhat come to terms with what took place and I might want to try again for love. This song still breaks my heart, but the shattered pieces are closer than ever to being reassembled. We place ourselves in every situation in which we find ourselves. I stayed too long in a broken marriage and became broken myself. I brought my baggage and trust issues into my post-marriage, romantic endeavors and caused myself even further suffering. I have no one but myself to blame for what happened to me, and that knowledge can begin the healing process. Some songs speak to people, and this is one of those songs. Heartbreakingly beautiful. ✌❤
@@johndef5075 I feel for you and hope you recover quickly from the pain. Despite my own heartbreak, I felt a sense of relief, once the divorce was finalized; therefore, I hope you use this moment as a turning point for a better life.
❤❤❤Get out the tissue on this one 😢😢😢....it's one her best. It is one of my all-time favorite songs from Bonnie Raitt. This song is going to make him cry a lot 😢😢😢
Dear Mr Salvog….your heart is right there on your sleeve! Beautiful song and touches all the buttons. What a hard thing to admit….”I can’t make you love me, if you don’t.” ❤️
Bonnie will always bring a tear to your eye. Something almost all of the covers fail to do and this song will always be hers. IMO the closest "emotionally" to her version I've heard would be the one done by Tank. It's an R&B version with lots of runs but unlike the completely emotionally dead versions like those done by Teddy Swims you can actually feel the pain and sincerity in it vs just doing a vocal performance showcasing runs with no respect for the material. Feelings come through in a performance and if you're just trying to hit a note you're not going to move anyone in your audience.
She has a great, soulful voice. Plays a mean guitar and keyboards, too. From her album Nick of Time (1989), you should hear NICK OF TIME and HAVE A HEART. also her cover of ME AND THE BOYS from her '82 album Green Light is one of those songs you won't be able to get out of your head after hearing! She has so many great recordings.
3 or 4 years ago I set myself a challenge to make a list of the 10 best songs ever, at least according to me. Try it sometime, it's hard. When you get down below 25 songs it gets really hard. But you end up with a fantastic little playlist. Then I remembered this one. It was like knocking off one of my own kids. That was Bruce Hornsby on piano BTW.
Great reaction. This song was written by Allen Shamblin and Mike Reid. Reid was an All American defensive line😮for Penn State and an All Pro for the Cincinnati Bengals. However, Bonnie took this song and made it her own. One of the saddest songs I have ever heard. Unrequited love.
ahh she was my celebrity meet somewhere back in the 90s .I was amazed how tiny she is really ! but also she is an incredible guitar blues player that mingles with the blues greats , she's a powerhouse . "something to talk about " is a fun good song .
To love someone who doesn't love you. Who hasn't felt that pain? It's a heartbreaking and beautiful song.
Willie Nelson said there are 2 types of men. Those who love Bonnie Raitt and those who have never heard of her.
actually, he said that about Linda Ronstadt

Lots of covers, but I feel the pain and resignation of the lyrics with Bonnie's version more than any other.
The word he was searching for was REAL. This song is exactly how it is.
It might be worth listening to Chase Truran an American singer with a group called Foxes And Fossils. This is a solo cover though.
So true!
My favorite cover of this is by Prince. Check out his version. I am
Interested to see what you think of it. 😊 it’s a beautiful song.
@tracyface69 Yes, Prince’s version is great too!

Well said…”giving dignity” to losing in love.
Something to Talk About is definitely worth listening to. She is an awesome blues guitarist too.

George Michael does an amazing cover of this
As did Chase Truran.
Was just going to say that when I saw your comment.
Came here to say this
We've all loved someone who didn't love us back. I think that's why so many identify with this song - a very human experience. Actually not my favorite of hers, but it's beautiful and haunting. Plus Bruce Hornsby on piano is a nice touch.
I understand this song. It’s the story of my life many years ago. I still tear up remembering…
Ive heard this hundreds of times and still cry every time.
This is wonderful❤ Bonnie excellent review I also like Cover by George Michael
Nobody sings this song like Bonnie Raitt. The emotion pierces your soul. Makes you feel like the heartbreak is fresh every time you hear it.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who cries at this song.
Guaranteed to make me cry, every single time! LJ
Bruce Hornsby on the piano❤
Her video is very effective. Hornsby shows why she selected him for piano. He is amazing on the keys.
Something to Talk About is another great one to listen to as well…love her.
It takes a STRONG man to show emotion. Love this guy ❤
The tear flood gates have opened already…I have heard this at least 100 times. Saw her perform it live, not a dry in the house. It’s as RAW as they come.
And then a backing of Bruce Hornsby on keys! Classic great stuff!
A very difficult yet beautiful song to sing , and she does it flawlessly.
Bonnie’s voice is amazing, and she is also an incredible slide guitarist. ✌🏼😎🇺🇸

If you can't feel the emotions and pain in her voice you aren't alive. Hard to hold back tears no matter how many times I hear it.
With this song, Bonnie puts her beating heart right out there -- pain, longing, and resignation. Just masterful!
I'm so glad you finally got to listen to this song, Salvo. It is by far one of the most beautiful and heart-wrenching songs every written and Bonnie Raitt absolutely kills it.

So powerful on every level... the lyrics & music, Bonnie's voice, and Bruce Hornsby's piano.
Lots of people get teary this is that kind of song, her voice is perfe😮for the pain and resignation
We’re all crying too, it’s ok my brother. 💔
For anyone who has had their hearts broken... this song and her voice on this song is like ripping your guts out!! Thanks for posting!
It's one of my favourites! Bonnie Raitt was on the radio through the 80's.
Your reaction tells me you have felt this pain before. Like many of us.
The vocals of this are a single take recording. She laid it down once in the studio and didn't think she could do it again. That adds to the brilliance of this.

Bonnie's voice and emotion + Bruce Hornsby on the keys ❤

George Michael did a cover of this unplugged, and his version is gorgeous, too.
Gerge Michael’s unplugged cover version is another piece of art!
I agree , love that man
@@susanyork5089I love both versions and I also love the version by Chase Truran.

"Nick of Time" should be your next Bonnie Raitt song, I love her style.
None better. Thank you, Bonnie and Bruce. ❤
I think we all have been there, that's why it touches us so deeply.
I got to see Bonnie at Red Rocks just outside Denver years ago. What a memorable experience.

When perfection comes together….. she is a legend for a reason.
It's so powerful.... I've heard this song many many times and it still rips my heart out!
Bonnie, Bruce Hornsby on piano and a great Mike Reid composition - it doesn't get much better than this.

My favorite Bonnie raite song!
Thank you for sharing your honest emotion. That's what music is all about.

One of the best.

You know when a song is well written ,you dont hear the words ,you feel them.
Bonnie made this song hers! She can convey emotion like no other (except, maybe, Phil Collins). Glad you found this gem.
This is why it’s so important to hear the original song
One of the best love songs of all time with fantastic piano playing!
This song gives the actual feelings one has when they realize that the love is gone and it's the death of the relationship.
This song deserved that reaction. Thank you.
Goosebumps every time I hear this , have heard her do this live . Perfection .

Bonnie's is way better.
Thank you so much for reacting to Bonnie Raitt. Every track on her Luck of the Draw album is powerful. Enjoy!

Probably the first Bonnie Raitt song I heard - and to this day my favorite. So sad. And so beautiful.
She sings these kinds of songs so incredibly well. “Just Like That” and “Feels Like Home” are a couple other tearjerkers.
One of my favorite female vocalists. Bonnie.

Wow, first I Started a Joke then this one? That's just dust in my eyes....Keep up the great work.

A reality most have experienced at some point in life. Beautifully done and perfectly reacted.

How exciting for you! I only know him from the movie version of The Pajama Game. He was wonderful in that.
