    Whew,Hayden Rd.East Cleveland😨is likely 2/3rds is abandoned.Very,very bad.Old pianos probably been with church since it was new never heard of that brand upright from Buffalo,NY. modern Casio portable keyboards made old school pianos and organs pretty much obsolete according to recent conversation I had with Bill Kapp himself who has a piano store ironically nearby there IN East Cleveland.Was doing a rehab house on west side CLE house also in a declining area.Elderly woman that died used to live there family took what belongings they wanted and left behind old spinet piano in good condition.Knapp picked it up for free to donate to poor schools music class teacher to give it a better home than the curbside treelawn for the kids to destroy.🎹

    Great one Dane. The vines in the window were beautiful and eerie. Glad you could film and watch your step at same time or you'd be hurting right now. Stay safe.

    The decorative interior window looking into the Sanctuary from the second floor (anout 11:44) was probably intended for a Pipe-Organ Organ that was either Removed or never installed.

    Hi there, that area overlooking the church sanctuary that had the screening that you weren't sure what it was for was originally to house the pipes for a pipe organ. As an organist I've been to numerous churches that had similar set-ups for housing the pipes and mechanicals for the pipe organ. The screening allows the sound to come out into the sanctuary. I live in NE Ohio (just South of Canton), so I love seeing these local explores. Great videos! Keep 'em coming!

    For a church, this place has some very odd things in it like that tub! That was a weird tub. Medical books, a necessary room (bathroom?) and hotel doors? ODD! That little room may have been what we called a cry room. Mama's with new babies could sit in there and view the service without the babies crying disturbing anyone. Cool that it had a court in it!

  • @nealmarshall2264
    @nealmarshall2264 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    The room was designed for the sound system. They would have the pa and speakers hidden in there. The Hammond organ would also go through these speakers. In the old days they hid that stuff. Nowadays they have it out in the open because it looks cool! It is cool. Thanks for your video.

    Good find Urbex Dane! However, I really wanted to know what was in the Necessary Room! 😆 Anyway, I just quickly looked up Kurtzmann Pianos. I think that piano is around circa 1910. I found out that Kurtzmann opened his first piano business in 1848. "Company made upright pianos and square pianos in the early 1800s, and then by the late 1800s added grand, baby grand pianos and player pianos. Kurtzmann had the reputation of building high quality pianos that could be seen in concert halls, restaurants, elite hotels, as well as private homes of the affluent." So perhaps that old piano should be rescued. Good explore, thank you! 😊

      Urbex Dane lol thanks man. Yea, years ago I had a small shed that was my spot for my band, my work shop, storage, a hangout spot and everything else you think of. I had a CB radio in there at one point and my handle was the One Room Shed. The name just stuck. Now I rep it like its my "brand".

    Another great find. So sad to see so many places just rotting away though. Beautiful and creepy at the same time, the vibes that have taken over the balcony windows. I just told my husband that you are in Ohio. He's from Ohio, I think I told you that before. He asked where you were specifically. I don't know where you ate from but told him you are in Cleveland. He watched for a minute but he's off to the store. Confession areas are like two small closets next to each other with a small window connecting them. The Priest sits in one and the Parishioner kneels in the other. There is a screen between them in the window so they are not able to see each other. I grew up Catholic and hated confession. Very scary to be a child and not really understand fully what sin was and having to go into that closet. Please be careful, I know you are, but it's scary to think you could fall through the floor that way. ✌️❤️✌️P.S. I need to find out what a necessary room is 🤔

    I'm not a religious person, but it is sad to see a church get like that. People were married there, funeral services were conducted there. It must be painful for family members who were connected to this church by such events to see it decay.

    17:47 $300 - $500 current condition. Restored $2,000 - $3,000. 12:08 The hotel room rate chart was weird. The Hollenden House was open from 1965 to 1989 when it was demolished. So the question is how did it get on that door? Maybe some urban explorer playing games.

      Lmao, you just said something about that piano!! It is worth a lot of money! It's an antique, I believed they stopped in early 1900s! That piano could easily sell for $25,000 in decent condition, because of the damage not as much but a lot!

      Im not a piano guy, but i looked that company up on google there were some appraisal sites for that piano.on the very top where you open it up to tune the piano it may be located inside. I was visiting a nursing home and I watched the guy tune it up and I saw numbers.when I asked him if he knew how old a piano was. That was the date stamp from 1911

    The organ here is a Hammond CV or DV with Chorus Generator Removed (The Black unmarked cover on the right side of the music desk cued me into this possiblity). It was probably built between 1945-1949, or from 1938-1941 if it is a D (a Vibrato kit was often added to earlier Organs by Hammond to discourage owners from buying Leslie Speakers (which many in Black churches often did, and fans of Popular and Jazz did also).
    The Leslie Speaker was invented by a Theater Organ fan and It wouldn't be until the Mid-1980s that both were owned by the same company.

      Organ dumped on side is a Hammond M-3, made famous by Green Onions but Booker T and the MGs and Foreplay by Boston.
      M Series started in 1948, M-3 1955-1964.

    • @craigbrowning9448
      @craigbrowning9448 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The other Organ a Roland, looks like 1970s, I wasn't aware of Roland home Organs of that vintage.

    • @craigbrowning9448
      @craigbrowning9448 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kurtzman was a good Canadian brand of piano Pre-WWII.
      Could be salvageable.
      Hamilton is a Baldwin Stencil brand.

    • @craigbrowning9448
      @craigbrowning9448 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Hammond Organs seen in this video also have some value (at least for parts) since they are Tonewheel Generator models with Square-Front keys (TW Gen and overhanging keys, less valuable, All-Electronic Hammonds, no value, unless new).

    Shame about that beautiful old Hammond C3 organ = restored those are worth a small fortune. As for that mystery room with the screen / grille, above the altar, that was typically where the speakers for that Hammond would be located, along with the speakers for the PA system.

    • @UrbexDane
      @UrbexDane  7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I really liked the music in the intro. This was a really interesting explore, you captured lots of nice touches like the ivy growing through the windows. I always find books and graffiti in these abandoned places interesting too. Looks like someone was into WW II and also studying for some kind of medical job. Did you notice the animal prints in the dust inside that tub? It looked like maybe raccoons.
    I looked up Hollenden House (from the sign on the door) and found this: coolhistoryofcleveland.wordpress.com/tag/hollenden-hotel/ There was a Hollenden Hotel originally and then when it was torn down in the 1960's a Hollenden House replaced it. It too was eventually demolished in 1989.
    P.S. The 'Necessary Room' sounds super creepy, yikes.
