As an amateur astronomer, I think this was such a cool explore! Telescopes and other optics from that time period were super expensive to build and took so many resources that I doubt many of them were ever trashed; they would have been moved and put back to use or upgraded. I actually looked it up and the scope used there was remounted elsewhere and is still in use today!
There's a pic of the dome + telescope at Kitt Peak. You can see the mountings that closely resemble the ones in the video. I guess this is where the telescope went after the original observatory closed. Shame about all the tagging. It really puts me off these urbex vids. commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Burrell_Schmidt_telescope_at_the_Warner_%26_Swasey_Observatory_at_Kitt_Peak.jpg
Fucking Graffiti... Don't they realize it looks like absolute shit? Like yes some of it looks incredible when it's an actual painting or something. But when it's scribbles that a 4th grader could do a better job of, it looks fucking horrendous. It's dickheads like that though that ruin beautiful old buildings like this. Sorry for the rant. But from the amount of abandoned places I've been it really pisses me off to see it. But when you find those buildings that have remained untouched by soggy methheads and 'homeboys' You can really appreciate what it once was, and what it is now.
I like graffiti but agree. I think no one should even tag abandoned buildings, just piece them as long as they are good and respectful of where on the building it is.
So weird to see a video of a place I've been to so many times. Wish I would have known you guys would be coming to Cleveland and could of shown you around! We also have an abandoned underground subway, much like cinci
A friend and I (we're both astronomers) have been saying for years that if we ever won the lottery we'd buy this place and restore it to its former glory. Warner and Swasey was a notable company in the late 19th and early 20th centuries in building observatory systems (mechanics mostly, not the optics) and much of the equipment they built is still in use today. Yes the light pollution in that area must be terrible, but a lot of good can be done these days with a public observatory and museum even under city light pollution. It's sad to see this place in such a sorry state of decay and I wish everyone who visited was as respectful as you guys are -- take only photographs, leave only footprints.
The great state of Ohio. Cleveland does Rock!! 🇺🇸 I worked for GM and had to spend a many of times from my state of Lansing Michigan to visit Cleveland Ohio 👍
Frottlemi so that’s actually why it looks like it’s been under repair, someone bought it and was gunna do just that, but then got put in prison for tax fraud.
Absolutely one of my favorite places I've investigated. Seeing such a magnificent structure was one thing gm seeing it inside was another. I actually have a hand etched glass exit sign along with a picture of both telescope rooms in a display case. One of the best things ever from my time in Cleveland.
@@cassielov3 ...yeah, no. I have spent a lot of time in Europe and south Asia. It's everywhere. Humans just like to destroy shit. Does not matter where you're from.
Saige Elyse that wouldn’t happen once someone’s been in a building the authorities won’t care and I don’t even know if they can take action also by the time these guys post they are far from there
Hey, that's not so far from my house! It used to be much less torn up, maybe 10 - 15 years ago, you could still see the frescoes on the floor. Kind of sad.
Light pollution wasn't just a growing issue when this place was abandoned in the '50s. I shudder to think how many kids growing up now never develop an even passing interest in amateur astronomy because they can't "see" anything where they live due to light pollution. I live in NV but I remember visiting my cousin in RI (northeast coast) and not being able to see the Milky Way at night. Even now I usually have to drive way out of the city I live in to get a good glimpse of the Milky Way. It never was like that when I was growing up. smh
There doesn't seem to be any place in there that hasn't been tagged or spray painted. Such a shame.... what was once a busy, useful, and interesting place, is now a shit hole. Thank you for sharing. Another great video, from The Proper People!
I imagine the telescope(s) were sold to someone. Serious ones that would be in something like that are expensive to make and if it's vintage it has historical value as well. Or it was thrown into a garbage dump somewhere after all.
I'm a Scorpio too! Me and both my girls🖤♏ now I'm curious what day's your birthday! Anyway that place was pretty cool despite the vandalism... Was probably really awesome in its time
Ummm, You guys walked under some sort of bees nest... If you were to look up you can see circular objects in the ceiling that look like some kind of animal / insects made.
What would the wife and daughter of Worcester Reed Warner say seeing this place destroyed like that? :-/ This could have been a cool place to live in I guess at least if you had the money and an architect with some creative ideas. You would have had a phantastic home cinema room.

You could always go and give it a white wash
yes they do, no they don't care (seen some awesome pieces of gravity during urbex, not this shit)
Those ingnorant spraybomb dickheads should be hosed down with gasoline and lit.
ya this spot is full of crap graffiti. i liked the long live bob ross tho lol
If you had an absolute ton of cash you could restore that building to a beautiful place to live.
Yeah I was thinking it's too bad nobody bought it to live in when it was still intact.
Someone did have a ton of cash and did buy it for that purpose. It turns out it was never supposed to be their cash.
If... The biggest 2-letter word EVER
You would have to dodge the gun fire. East Cleveland is not the nicest place to live.

Oh, it's not THAT bad anymore!

Cleveland.
😂
Just saw some videos of the underground subway. Too bad most parts of it are under water. Kind of reminds me of Bioshock.
What a cool place, never seen anything abandoned like this. Nice one fellas :)

LIke about 80 doors!!!

You saying that makes me start to imagine. What a cool bed and breakfast or air bnb or something.
Of all the buildings that are save due to Historical Relevance.... Why are they not saving this one??!! It's beautiful!!
Its cool that you went cleveland were I live. The factory is more cool personally if you went to that after.
Fascinating exploration. Thanks for the adventure. A little bit more history & some facts are always great.
SO MAD I DIDNT KNOW YOU GUYS WERE IN CLEVELAND OHIO! I’m about 30 minutes away from that location & know a ton more!

If you ever come out to Leland NC there’s the old abandoned Fireball raceway racetrack pretty cool hasn’t been touched and powers still on
where at?
Espectacular ese sitios...
Muy buena exploración...👍
Increíble el observatorio
Wow this is great. been by this place plenty of times, didn't know you were this close in the area. lol
it always amazes me that people vandalize and destroy places like this,
rtp4u2 some of the graffiti makes it cool though but yeah I understand
that’s america for you

Boy would i love an observatory for a house, that or an old historic theater
Fantastic video, so much room in there looks kinda small from the outside. Interesting love it . Keep up the great work.
Interestingly old observatory still exists and is functional in Providence, RI. It's called the Ladd Observatory.
Nice video guys.. Pretty cool place...Keep up the great work..

*FINALLY A UPLOAD!!* 😃😃😃😃
Awesome you are in my neck of the woods!
Fantastic location! I wish you had added a little bit of your aesthetic to the reveal of that beautiful dome though.
amazing no one has bought and rehabbed. though pricey to do, that would be so awesome as a house
That random sneeze scared the living crap out of me! hah.
Do you guys not do drone shots anymore?
GREAT JOB
Yooooo when were you guys in cle?! I was just there a few days ago
I'm going to Cleveland this summer, definitely gonna check out this location
The Dead Zone check out the factory too and the Westing House Electric Factory
This is amazing! So happy I got this notification! Have you guys ever been contacted by the authorities or security after you posted a video?

Really interesting. So much graffitti spoils it in a way. But have to try and see past that to what was. Thanks for sharing.

great Vlog Guys!
It's like playing Myst all over again.
From what I've read is the telescope was moved 30 miles east in Geauga County in whats known today as the Nassau station.
Great video guys. Very interesting.

Fuck I didn't know Ohio had an observatory. But that is like an hour to two hours away from where I'm at. Fucking amazing guys.
lol I don't live there but from what I've found out is it was owned by the Case Western Reserve University.
Fuck I live in Ohio, I didn't know that.
The flies may be horse flies or deer flies, which bite, not sting
Looks like every R-Tard in the world came and painted his graffiti all over the building .... sad !
BIGBADWOOD That's one thing that annoys me is tons of graffiti in abandoned places. Some is fine if it's tasteful but not stupid stuff.
Graffiti of astronomical proportions.
How many times have you found people in places you’ve explored?
Dusty's Ramble's I think they encountered one.

Editing and exploring other places on tour. Editing takes a while.
daniel rector cause they have to go around filming but I believe they are still in school as well
Aside from editing, they most certainly visit places that turn out to be duds. That can definitely delay a video release schedule
Why did you start another channel?
for videos not worthy of being in the main channel.
