Yes Dick Clark. It's from his daily "American Bandstand show. I used to come home from school and watch it. It was a very popular show for teens for a very long time.
I’m a huge Darin fan. If you join the Bobby Darin Fan club you will hear how phenomenal this artist was. He did Rock n roll, ballads, country, R &B, folk, and he’s swing was unbeatable. I really don’t know where to start with Darin, I would be here all night. Perhaps start with ‘Up A Lazy River’, but whenever possible, watch him live. His live version of ‘Come Hail Or Come Shine’ is the best ever, ‘Lonesome Whistle Blues’ is wonderful and his live BBC version of ‘Once Upon A Time’ will bring you to tears. Bobby Darin always had oxygen tanks side stage. He was a childhood victim of rheumatic fever and was lucky to live to 37 years. He certainly cover a lot of ground. Wrote many many songs, and was a multi instrumentalist. Join the fan club and enjoy❣️
(2:55 "Chew a lot of gum") When Beechnut Gum became a sponsor of Bandstand their sales went up 100%. It was no coincidence. Product placement and promotion.
Bobby is one of the greatest singers ever. This song is one of my all time favorites. Had many hits. BEYOND THE SEA, GOODBYE CRUEL WORLD, IF I WERE A CARPENTER, SPLISH SPLASH, MACK THE KNIFE. Merry Christmas to you and yr family!
The audience of American Bandstand, was all given, complimentary packs of Beech-Nut gum when they sponsored the show... And Dick Clark, always looked young.
Nice reaction to this classic million seller a member of the Rock & Roll hall of fame; this song was from 1958. This song was popular not only in the US, but was and is still well known all over the world. This song reflected the innocence of the golden era of pop music, 1957-1965. This clip showed the audience seated because it was a "live" performance, but If you do a simple internet search for American Bandstand videos, you will see many clips of the audience members dancing; contest were a regular feature with several couples as "professional regulars". May I compliment you on your make-up and hairstyle- looks professionally done. Greetings and thanks from Bellevue, WA USA
American Bandstand WAS a dance show, but when the singers came on they were seated in the bleachers that were on the side. We had dress codes in those days. you had to wear skirts or dresses to school or on bandstand, boys had to wear shirt and tie or with a sweater, or a suit. Same when you went shopping in town. Jeans were rarely worn then. I grew up during that time
Hi Tysheen, "Dream Lover" was a very popular song on the radio in 1959 & the early 60's...It is such a vibe that it has also been used in some movies & commercials too!!! Nice reaction!!! Please react to Bobby Darin's song "Mack The Knife" it too is a nice jazzy jam...
Beech-nut gum was a sponsor of the shows and gave free samples to the audience. That's why you see all the girls smacking on gum (plus, they really did chew a lot of gum back then).
It certainly was Dick Clark. This was either from American Bandstand or his first Outside Project "The Dick Clark Saturday Night Beechnut Show" around 1959. They were chewing Beechnut Gum, since it was it's sponsor, and they couldn't look too enthused. Rock & Roll was still considered to be Poison to alot of Parents. He was one of America's Biggest Teen Idols back in the day. His Real Name is Robert Walden Costello who took his stage name from The Phone Book. They were wonderful Friends and although he was a bit egotistical, fans loved him. He was also fiercely loyal when Dick was involved in The Payola Scandal (Ie Monetary Bribes). He didn't do it but others did most notably Alan Freed. He would later marry & divorce Sandra Dee The Teen Movie Queen next to Annette Funicello who did movies like Imitation of Life (1959), then A Summer Place. Sandra Dee's Name was featured in Look At Me I'm Sandra Dee in Grease and Troy Donahue's Name was also mentioned. In the late 1960's his Career went downhill and while he tried to change his musical style it was too little too late. He would die in 1973 one year after American Bandstand celebrated it's 20th Anniversary overall on the air.
Especially for Fidel Castro. I think my favorite song in 1959 was Frankie Avalon's "Venus." I'd have to google all the hits though, because my memory is not what it used to be.
I think in this program one of their sponsors were a chewing gum company and they handed out free gum to the audience and that's why they were all chomping away. I had wondered the same thing and a commenter from that time made that comment. Lol just see you commented on that at the end. And you're very pretty. :)
"During the 1960s, he became more politically active and worked on Robert F. Kennedy's Democratic presidential campaign. He was present on the night of June 4/5, 1968, at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles at the time of Robert Kennedy's assassination. During the same year, he discovered the woman who had raised him was his grandmother, not his mother as he thought, and learned that the woman he thought was his sister was actually his mother. Those events deeply affected Darin and sent him into a long period of seclusion."
Believe yr the first to react to this beautiful song. Must be videos with better quality, may be remastered. I always enjoyed Beyond the Sea. He was being groomed to be the next Frank Sinatra. Tho sadly he died very young. Much success on yr channel!
I remember Bobby Darin eating spaghetti in my aunt's kitchen in McKee's rocks in Pittsburgh when I was a kid! He was friends with my uncle who was a trumpet player!
The girls (in the 50's) all chewed gum whether they smoked or not. My mom was part of this generation. Also, these girls look like they're between 16-18 years old, even back when smoking was popular, that would have been too young. My mom was offered her first cig at age 20-21, she never became a smoker.
How lucky were we to hear this song and all other great songs 1st time around. Great to hear them again and again and again

You could smoke almost everywhere back in the day.

Hi! This program, American Bandstand, was sponsored by Beechnut Gum. I'm sure that everyone was given a pack of gum and were told to chew like mad.
Great entertainer. Bobby died in his thirty s of complications of heart surgery.

Must have been so much fun to live then
They did dance on the show.
1959 was a good year
I believe you.

He had so much talent. Thank you

You're lucky to have these personal memories of a great rock star.
Why would you post this to every video if that’s true. Odd
Dick Clark looked young most of his life.
The show was promoted by a chewing gum company, so it was given to the audience.
It's him was 7 years old 63 years ago.
beechnut gum was the biggest sponser of this show and everyone there was given a stick to chew............
👍🏻
If it's him your watching a 62 year old clips of what American bandstand was like back then.
Bobby
WAs smooth..
Check out Bobby and Stevie Wonder doing Of I were a Carpenter
The Dick Clark show was sponsored by Beechnut Gum….that’s why they were chewing gum.
yes, this is great but you have no idea what he became until you explore more vids. (especially if you like blues, swing and jazz) perfection!
The show was sponsered at least in part by a chewung gum Company so all the kids got gum to chew
You said that you wished there had been the freedom to get up and dance. I think there was a dancing portion of the show.
Johnny Preston - what am i living for. you should react to this super song
dick clark on the show american bandstand..you should do a youtube search on that some time

They probably chewed gum to get the taste of cigarettes off their breath.
The girls (in the 50's) all chewed gum whether they smoked or not. My mom was part of this generation. And one of the things about girls now a day's you talk to much and keep cutting off music. Stop doing that.
