Close family friend. I broke my collarbone body surfing at his Malibu house when I was 13. He took me to the hospital. I attended the Renaissance Pleasure Faire with he and Sandra (and a bunch of very famous Hollywood folks) in '66 He used to drop by and tune my moms guitar. What a beautiful soul.
I was a 14 yr old when I saw Bobby Darin in England in 1956. He was absolutely fantastic. I have never forgotten that concert and knew he would be a superstar. He died way too young. I think my favorite song was splish splash as that was the first one I ever heard from him. Now I love If I was carpenter. RIP never forgotten.
I was only 9 years old when Bobby Darin died. He was my first celebrity crush. He made me fall in love with swing music that I still love today. I miss Bobby Darin, too young to leave us but left an impact that will live forever.
I worked for years with a doctor who was part of a care team at Cedars Sinai Hospital in LA. He said that Daren lived a very fast paced life. This life style along with his heart problems contributed to his early demise. He also thought that the quality of his life and the things he wanted to accomplish were important to him. He wanted the best life he could have and chose not to live like a cardiac cripple. It was his choice and lived the way he wanted to live and contributed so much in his short but extremely incredible life and brought so much though his entertainment. He was one who touched so many in such a positive way. We still miss him
I saw him in Las Vegas. By the time I made it back from vacation, they had announced his death! I was stunned and shattered as his performance was so flawless you would never have known he was that sick. So sad.
In 1961, I took my then girlfriend to the Copa Cabana for her 17th birthday. He was Spectacular!! He sang, danced, pranced played multiple instruments and when it was all done I said to myself, that's what I want to do. Subsequently I played in Rock N Roll bands from 61- 70!
Dream Lover, 1959 I believe was also song of the year and for good reason. It has stood the test of time. What a great talent Bobby was, what a great song!
whenever I am a little melancholily, I mix a drink and before heading to bed I watch the live shot video of "don't rain on my parade". brings a smile to my face every time and puts my spirit in a better place.
Bobby Darin was a class act! I was never a fan of “Bridge Over Troubled Water” until I saw Bobby sing in it on on film during one of his shows. No one performed that song with so much raw emotion as Mr. Bobby Darin. The film “Pressure Point” is my favourite of his films. What an incredible actor he was, a multi talented entertainer. unique!
I love him still.I enjoyed him very much in the Andy Williams show.He was funny too. I still play his music. He. .was unique. God bless him. Never forgotten.Still loved.
Not only did he act in movies, but he received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Captain Newman, M.D. (1963). It can be found on TH-cam.
Bobby Darin died at 37 having open heart surgery. A terrific talent who died much too young. The person who thought was his sister, but actually his mother new of his health issues & should have kept her mouth shut! RIP 💥
“Beyond the Sea”, this song is hard to beat, IMO. I was just barely a teenager when he died. For years I wondered what had happened to him because I never saw him again. Then the movie starring Kevin Spacey pretty much cleared up what did happen to him. I’m sure the movie took some details & blew them up, Bigger than life, but also left some details out. Who knows.
One of the most versatile and great singers ever. A real singer. Frank Sinatra even spoke highly about Darin and his singing. There will never be another one like him.
Along with Sammy Davis the greatest all-around entertainer of the 20th Century. He and Sammy could do it all! Man, if they would have done some shows together, what spectacular shows they would have been!
Bobby was very handsome. He could dance & sing at the same time.He was smart, funny, /.He could make you laugh and cry with his songs. He seemed to be a good man. I loved his song "FREEDOM". Never be another Bobby Darin.
This is not correct. Bobby divorced Sandra in 67. He had surgery in early 71 and received 2 artificial heart valves. He recovered and was doing good. Then he had dental surgery in later 73. He was prescribed antibiotics. But he didn't take them. He got sick and an infection in his heart, damaging his heart valves. He recovered from the infection after being in the hospital, and was going to do his tour, but the damage to his heart valves from the infection got worse and put him back in the hospital in December 73. He went into emergency surgery to have them repaired. It took almost 9 hours. He lived through the surgery, but died in the recovery room. He never regained consciousness. 😢
Shortly before his death, he went to the dentist without taking the usual antibiotics, which he knew he was supposed to do given his damaged heart, to avoid a dangerous infection. A mystery to tempt fate this way, especially for someone who enjoyed life and was planning another tour.
His Dodd said his dad was just tired of the routine of constant medical care and not living a normal life. You can say Bobby went out on his own terms.
My favorite song when I was 5 was Mac the Knife. I knew every word. Still do. Wish I could have seen him in person. What an extraordinary talent. Love you, Bobby. See you on the other side.❤
I'm a very big fan of Bobby and I wanna thank you for this video, through which I hope more people will learn about him and his work. One of my favourite songs is "Simple song of freedom" which he wrote and sang himself and also his live cover of "bridge over troubled water" which always makes me cry. A thing I'd like to point out is that he didn't stop singing in 1972! In 1973 he had his own tv show and dozen and dozen of concerts until summer of that year. He loved singing so much he had to stop between songs to take oxigen since he was getting sicker and sicker. He was so ahead of his time, I often wonder what he could have done if only he hadn't died so young. He'll never be forgotten
I think his best song was "Once apon a Time." Many other performers recorded it, but his version was the best. I find it hard to listen to his version because it reminds me of a lost love.
I developed a crush on him around the age if six & still have it today. Loved all his songs & yes he could change with the times. Also loved his movies. He was so cute & so talented. I still miss hi..
Bobby Darin was NOT in Gidget! That was James Darin. I would think you would check your facts. Loved both of them. Did you learn about his romance with Connie Francis? They wanted to marry, but her father wouldn't allow it. That was before Sandra Dee.
I don't remember most of his songs I was only a teenager and now I'm 70 but I do remember his very charismatic performances in the movies and his high profile divorce from Sandra I truly loved Bobby Darren and I will always
He had congestive heart disease. Such a performer to the end. After he stepped off stage, they handed him the oxygen. Lived on BC! Nevada in my teens and remember him being a headliner in VEGA. My parents loved him. my dad of heart disease in 72. movie, please?
No mention of his early success with the band called The Rinky - Dinks. He was the lead singer and co- wrote the song "Early In The Morning". That is one of my favorite songs by him.
A few years ago, Dodd Darin wrote a book about his parents and his relationship with them, called "Dream Lovers". It's a well-written book, respectful to everyone while still being honest. I recommend it. Dodd Darin got married and has children, but more than that I do not know.
Many people die young, and have success at early ages. His life and death weren't tragic . He had a heart condition, that caused early death. This was fate, not tragedy
As a young teenager I and my friends always followed the top forty song rankings that was published every week. I remember that for many , many weeks “MackThe Knife” was at the top at number one. It almost became predictable. Bobby Darin was the one performer I always wanted to see live, in person. But it never came to be. A big disappointment.

He was brilliant in so many ways, musical, acting, and comic (even excellent impersonations). He truly could do it all and he could entertain in multiple genres, rock, folk, country, just an amazing talent. And brilliant as in all of the above plus I read somewhere his IQ was Mensa/140s I believe. So sad he died so young. We can only wonder what other things he would have achieved in the entertainment and in political headlines.
Well...he lived longer than my uncle who was the same age and had the same damaged heart. He lived only to age 22 and never got to be married or be a father.
His wife, Sandra Dee, played Gidget in the first Gidget movie, but I don't recall him being in any other Gidget-based shows. He was in at least 3 movies with her, though.
I believe this song Lost love behind me and Queen of the hop were done by Bobby Darren. My favourite song by Him is Dream lover. He was also one of my favourite Singer.
Thanks for the video. I knew very little about Bobby Darin because I was not into his type of music. In fact, I could not stand the song, "Mac the Knife" because I heard it too often and I did not understand the lyrics. However, thanks to this video, I have a great appreciation for Bobby Darin as a person.
Bobby Darin never drank or took drugs but was one of the greatest entertainers of all time I said this before but I met tony Orlando at the bottom line in Manhattan about 25 years ago he told me he and Sammy went to see Bobby’s show in Vegas and Sammy turned to him and said you know tony that’s one guy I’d hate to follow the Sammy I’m talking about was Sammy Davis jr now that’s pretty heavy bobby came on like a rocket he said he’d like to be a legend by 25 because he figured he die by 25 the man could do anything Phil caggiano
Years ago I read, can't remember where, that Darin was crushed when he found out that the woman he grew up thinking was his sister was really his biological mother. He had recently gotten divorced from Sandra Dee and people close to him said he stopped taking his heart medication knowing he would die without it. A commenter here said he didn't take an antibiotic before dental surgery, knowing it could kill him. That ties into the theory above. But he didn't die during heart surgery.
His death could not be more tragic than we were told. Nothing can be more tragic than death. He had heart problems all of his life. I think that was a fairly well-known fact.
I chucked my DVD in the garbage after the revelations on Spacey. Besides, it was a vanity project. KS was too old, soft, and didn't possess Bobby's swag.
@@tomdoyle6030 True. Nothing NON-tragic about death. Not too many HAPPY deaths. Sad he died young but his life was far from tragic. I consider tragic a parachute not opening. I've wasted so much time because I'm "further investigating" Denver Pyle's "TRAGIC DEATH". or something like that. I was like "humm... I didn't know he had a tragic death... and watch a 15 minute video about Denver Pyle's life and it seemed far from tragic and he eventually died. I guess Tragic Death gets more clicks than "eventual death". Lol. sorry for the rant. i'm at work and I have a very loud keyboard. It sounds like I'm working super hard.

This is sad ! 😢

His death could not be more tragic than we were told. Nothing can be more tragic than death. He had heart problems all of his life. I think that was a fairly well-known fact.
Kevin Spacey made a great movie about Darin.
I chucked my DVD in the garbage after the revelations on Spacey. Besides, it was a vanity project. KS was too old, soft, and didn't possess Bobby's swag.
Bobby Darin wasn't in Gidget but he and Sandra Dee were in Come September.
I named my youngest son after Bobby Darin, He was born June 16 1977 and I named him Darin.
Thank you so much for sharing! You're a true fan. What is your most memorable song of Bobby?
talented beyond words, and gone way too soon.
He's greatly missed
Well said, we strongly concur! Thank you for watching our content and for sharing your thoughts. What is your favorite song of Bobby?
Why Jesse Waters thumbnail?
Bobby was a genius, too. A bonanza fide member of the MENSA Society.
I'm so sick of Facts Verse rating everybody's death as "tragic". I'd love to have a life this "tragic"
He was only 37
His early death - was - tragic. What’s wrong with you??
As you stated tragic DEATH ,,, you could have rhe best life in the world , it dosnt change your death
Beyond the Sea
One of our favorites too, you've got fine taste! Which song comes in at second place?
