One of the most beautiful songs of all time. I think the real magic about Bobby Hatfield's performance here is not just his superlative singing ability (which is obvious), but his ability to make every woman feel like he was singing it just for them.
    Great reaction, Tysheen.

Every woman with an open heart reacts to this beautiful L y sung version of "Unchained Melody" because it so powerfully represents how loving men really feel about their women. We really do "love, hono,r and cherish our wives, which is every woman's due. Women need this spiritual commitment from their men in order to contribute their partnership to a lifetime of marriage and family. Thank you, Bobby Hatfield, for voicing a real man's true feelings for real women! So many of us can not do it adequately ourselves. Rest in peace, Sir. Amen.

Bobby, from the grave, makes these TV show singers like on America's Got talent sound like amateur night at the bar karoake. This is real talent, no BS. He sings about the content of the menaing of the song, using his vocal talents to cnvey the emotions, not his vocal athletics, of wich he has plenty of. It's about the song, something sorely missing today.

Besides them singing together, every so often, the Righteous brothers would perform some songs individually & in this one Bill Medley (baritone voice) sat this one out and Bobby Hatfield (high tenor) sang "Unchained Melody." Welcome to the wonderful world of what is known as blue-eyed soul. It is truly timeless music, and The Righteous Brothers were the absolute best. The story about how the group was named (according to my recollection, anyway) was they were playing somewhere in the South, and a black serviceman stood up during one of their performances and yelled out, "That's righteous, brother!" Bobby Hatfield did this one in only one take and nailed it completely. Nothing in the way of voice enhancers or whatever else is used nowadays. Pure, raw talent. You need to do a video reacting to both of them singing "You've Lost That Loving Feeling." He and Bill Medley (the other half of the "brothers" part) also performed on at least one episode of a music talent show in the 1960s called, "Shindig!" That one will definitely blow your mind!

Bill Medley, the bass-baritone half of the Righteous Brothers, produced this song for his "brother" Bobby Hatfield, the tenor. Of course, such perfection came about through hard work and dedication from both of the Righteous Brothers. Bill was not joking when he said that he didn't know that "Unchained Melody" would be a hit. No one "knows" how to guarantee a hit. But, and this is the key, Bill worked his butt off to try to make the song a hit. So did Bobby. Of course, both of the Righteous Brothers were delighted when "Unchained Melody" became a hit. You will notice that "Unchained Melody" became a hit under the heading of the Righteous Brothers even though Bobby sang solo. This exemplified the caring/sharing/decency/respectful relationship that they had with themselves and each other. What a different world we would have if all "real" brothers held such values.

I sang this to my wife at our wedding in 1983. She, however she said I murdered it. I'm guessing it's not a song for a baritone, she told me I was of better sticking to my drumming. I thought it was an appropriate song as I was in the Royal Marine Commandos, I had returned from the war for the Falkland Islands when I proposed, and now was shipping out to Sierra Leone two days later, so much for my attempt at being romantic. On the upside she liked me in my Dress Uniform, and having my comrades forming the sword tunnel helped.
I must have done something write because we're still together. With 4 children and 7 grandchildren, we got busy on baby's when I was home. I served my Queen and Country for 34 years as a Royal Marine Commandos and Specialist Forces, and then 2 years in hospital, and she stuck by me even though I'm wheelchair bound now. We do actually have a song by Queen called "Your Me Best Friend", a very apt song as she has been my best friend since we were both 16.

Phil Spector, the owner of the record company, normally produced the 'A' sides of single releases. This song was released as the 'B' side and was actually produced by Bill. It actually made Spector furious that radio stations began playing this side instead and he changed the credits on the label to say that he produced it. These guys typically each had 2 solo songs on each studio album with one exception - an album called 'Standards' where Bill had one whole side of solos and Bobby had the other side.

This song takes on more meaning when understood in context...the song comes from a prison movie about a man doing time and singing to his love from prison...In 1954, Alex North was contracted to compose the score for the prison film (released in 1955).... North then asked Hy Zaret to write the lyrics, but Zaret initially declined, saying he was too busy painting his house. North was able to convince him to take the job, and together they wrote "Unchained Melody."...and the rest is history...maybe the most beautifully written romantic song of all time...and as I understand Zaret did eventually get his house painted.

Interestingly Bobby Hatfield had profound stage fright and would throw up before every performance then get himself together and go out on stage and kill it. Those two guys were consummate professionals and performers.

Tysheen, my love, remember that in those days we had no MTV or music channels on TV or any cable programs, and no computers or cell phones to watch our favorite groups and singers. There were a few shows that featured our kind of music - Shindig, Hullaballoo and so on, but they were typically half hour shows once a week. This performance was on the Perry Como show, one of a number of variety type shows that might feature a pop or rock or soul act. In other words, it was a big deal to see the people we loved. I might see the Rolling Stones or the Beatles or someone like that half a dozen times a year, if I was lucky. Maybe that's why they're so special to us after all these years.

He was Elvis Presley’s favorite ballad singer -superior to Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Johnny Mathis , Tony Bennet.. and when you privately or publicly react to “ Unchained Melody” , I’m going to offer you 2 songs that will blow your mind.
The first is “ once upon a time” and his 4 octave range reaches the celestial angelic realm. And then “ Granada” the best American rendition ever recorded in the history of recordings. He scales the heights and sustains notes seemingly forever.

@@gibsongirl2100 I used to work in the music industry at some capacity and often learned all sorts of facts about artist (mostly more modern ones), but the Righteous Brother have stood the test of time (especially Unchained Melodies thanks to Movies). Bill and Bobby both wanted to sing this as a solo in this Valentine’s Day special. They tossed a coin and Bobby won. You can find Bill Medley’s version on You Tube. Bill was joking when he said he didn’t know it was going to be a hit. 😊

He and Bill Medley (not real brothers) both wanted to do the single, so they tossed a coin and Bobby Hatfield won. It was meant to be because no one could match this perfection.

Bill was just joking when he said he didn't think it was going to be a hit. They both wanted to do the song solo, so they did a coin toss and Bobby won. Many people have sung this song, but it was always Bobby's song. It's in the movie, Ghost. No auto tune back then. Just pure talent. RIP Bobby. New subbie. :-)

Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley - The Righteous Brothers. Bobby had an unusual 4 octave voice range. Normal male voice range goes between two and a half to three octaves.

Another sad song all the "experts" said could never be a hit was SOLITAIRE - covered by many artistes, such as Andy Williams ... written by Neil Sedaka ... he'd lost all his money I believe, after being ripped off by his mother and step father acting as his manager, squandering all his money from his many massive hit songs in the 60's - so in the 70's he had to start all over again, playing piano as a session musician, paid by the hour, or as an entertainer in small venues - then he wrote SOLITAIRE - a very sad song about lonliness, which no-one believed coule ever be a hit - man, it was a MMMMMAAAASSSSIVE success ... just check how many people recorded it ... Experts are often wrong.
