I saw this movie with my Mom when it came out. I always loved it. I love the music from it especially this song. Thank God for TH-cam as you can find anything you want to listen to. Never be embarrassed about what you may or may not like.
He was a wonderful, brilliant musician and composer. He appeared onstage in 2002 with the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles when I sang with the group, and sang this little-known song from The Grand Tour. Such a kind-hearted and gracious man. th-cam.com/video/Hdd0QM7egVc/w-d-xo.html
O meu Deus!
Lots of people are saying Wall-E brought them here, but I remember the first time I watched it, Hello, Dolly was exciting for me because I LOVE this show! I'm glad it's getting exposure
As an "ex - sound engineer" can I just say that the sound balance and dynamic is just spot on! How the BBC guys just come up and up with world class sound reproduction just goes to prove that the ole' Corp keeps on sorting and delivering.
Yes I believe Mr Wilson did not use the Broadway orchestrations but the expanded Hollywood film version that starred Barbra Streisand, Walter Matthau, Michael Crawford with a glorious cameo by Louis Armstrong who originally made the title song a hit. The original producer wanted the song cut during out of town previews - he could not stand it - so Jerry Herman had the song covered by Louis Armstrong, it soon became a hit on the radio, so there was no way the song could be dropped from the show.
The reason why the orchestration for this version is so amazing is because the arrangement is from the Movie version, not the Broadway version. And, as in every Streisand movie musical, the orchestrations were magnificent and the orchestrators pushed themselves to do the best work they ever did. So thrilled that so many of you who wrote below noted that the orchestration was so outstanding. Alfred Newman was the musical director on the movie, but if you see the movie credits, there were approximately 9 of the best orchestrators in Hollywood who worked on the arrangements on the various songs in the film. One you may notice, was Alexander Courage, who incidentally, wrote the famous Star Trek theme from the tv show in the 60s. I loved the opening tenor, but was not thrilled with the female singer (very weak) in red dress (the Streisand part). Oh, well. The rest of it was great. Enjoy!!!!
Amen to all of it. I will just add that by this time Alfred had handed his baton over to his brother Lionel at 20th Century Fox. Lionel Newman and Lennie Hayton did the Dolly arrangements - probably with some input from Roger Edens - Dolly producer and former MGM music director.
Well, nobody can top Streisand for vocals, but I thought this singer was quite good. She forgot the words at 4:37, "To town we'll trot to a smoky spot," and substituted another line till she got herself right back on track.
This is an amazing comment - I didn't know who the orchestrators were, just that it's a h*ck of a lot better than what Tams sends out, which is still the 1960's orchestration only with the keys updated for Dolly so she''s not in Carol Channing baritone range. Also, as to the "forgotten lyric" - The line is "that Sunday shine is a certain sign", in the official licensed score (at least, the US version).
When I was very young, I was cast in a circa-1978 high school play of Dolly! as the kid. My older siblings were in the play, and I played the kid parts. I remember waving flags, drinking coffee for the first time and all the songs. Happy experience.
Terrific rendition of one of the most interesting and complicated musical orchestrations ever! Point and counterpoint unending enhance the melody continuously. Such a treat!
Matthew Ford and Stewart Price have great stage presence. Bob Hope used to say that performers should show the audience that they are happy to be there. That's what these two do. A pleasure to hear and watch all the performers, the orchestra, Maida Vale Singers and the wonderful orchestra!
This is one of the great musical songs. Just an enchanting melody and great lyrics. This is an excellent performance, but the Helo Dolly movie is the gold standard.
i love that John Wilson uses the film orchestrations (as he usually does) for Broadway performances. he does the same for West Side Story, King and I, Carousel, etc. the films utilized a large orchestra and that fits the Prom.
I feel exactly the same - one of his best songs, and it works so well in the show. (And yes, it is indeed the movie version, which I prefer to the stage version).
I love this song one of my favourites from the greatest magical musical " Hello Dolly" , the soloists are OUTSTANDING along with the chorus, this such a an uplifting song and Mr John Wilson and Orchestra play with such energy , wonderful, so joyous to watch.
WOW, that was fantastic!!! Everyone in this is top quality. Everyone's vocal quality and diction is so clear and pure and that orchestration...amazing! They all make it look effortless.
The blonde guy just sounds like Michael Crawford. The music orchestration along with chorus its just wonderful, like everything the BBC does. But... there's no other voice like the one and only Barbra Streisand!
A lively, heart warming song sung in “Hello Dolly”. I was lucky enough to see the play with Carol Channing at a playhouse in Phila., Pa. in the 70’s. I also love the movie. 🥰👍☺️
The on-line Proms archive for this concert gives the names of the soloists: Stuart Matthew Price sang the part of Cornelius and the other singers were Annalene Beechey, Charles Castronovo, Matthew Ford, Sarah Fox, Caroline O'Connor and Clare Teal.
These kids are marvellous. It’s very well sung musical theatre of the finest technique more sung than talked and it’s actually perfect diction. Fabulous.
Wonderful song sung by very talented people with beautiful voices. How can anyone maintain a bad mood listening to this song? Of course, Barbra Streisand did the signatory work originally in the film, "Hello Dolly," but when we have an ensemble like this she is not truly missed though this was not one of the songs she sang. Compliments to John Wilson, his Orchestra and Chorus for their usual excellent work.
Special credit must go to Matthew Price who kicks this great show tune into gear. Price is a British actor, dancer and West End stage and concert singer known for playing Riff Raff in three European tours of The Rocky Horror Show. He is also a composer, having written Before After (2014) and Imaginary (2017) among other musicals.
It`s the art of rebirth of something: translating, transforming, ...initiating a song into our present time :) In the end `both` generations get together: Hello Dolly from one edge, WALL.E from the other `edge`. Nice job, Walt Disney :)
The full chorus of the Maida vale singers joined by the entire company of soloists: Caroline O'Connor, Sarah Fox, Clare Teal, Annalene Beechey, Matthew Ford, and Charles Castronovo plus Stuart Matthew Price singing the role of Cornelius.
I've literally listened to this version at least 100 times, and I just now realized that the lead female singer changed a line - at 4:37 she sings, "That Sunday shine is a certain sign that the girls are hot as a fuse" when the line is actually, "To town we'll trot to a smoky spot where the girls are hot as a fuse." I love this version but I did just notice that.
had the opportunity to see ms channing as dolly in st louis, mo, in 1977, when i was 12, in a revival produced in part by houston grand opera. eddie bracken was her horace vandergelder. it was presented at the muny, st louis' vast 12,000-seat outdoor theater. even at that young age, i knew this was something special, as i had never seen a performer hold an audience that large in the palm of her hand.
I'm somewhat embarrassed to admit how many times I've watched this, and how much good it does me.
Why are you embarrassed my friend? Great music does that. Keep on watching.
Me, too!
I saw this movie with my Mom when it came out. I always loved it. I love the music from it especially this song. Thank God for TH-cam as you can find anything you want to listen to. Never be embarrassed about what you may or may not like.
Same. SO SO MANY! 😊
Me too!!!!!! 😊
One of the best renditions of this iconic song ever. What are they doing today.. this is 13 years old!
RIP Jerry Herman, who wrote the music and lyrics, who has died on 26 December 2019.
rip💔

Just terrific
LOVE that John Wilson uses the note-by-note Oscar-winning arrangements from Lennie Hayton and Lionel Newman.
The arrangement for 'Sunday Clothes' is actually by Warren Barker and Herbert Spencer.
I've said it before, and will again probably - when will John W get a knighthood? Like WHEN??

I'm happy to be older and know music like this. 👍❤
I see this little robot curving around you, showing his little treasures... and somehow cry a lot...
Buy N Large, Thank You For Purchasing.
Never get tired of listening to this. Love the song..
The ORCHESTRATION is FABULOUS, BEAUTIFUL
same as in the Film
Which, sadly, is not as good as the theatrical version
The orchestrator of both the Broadway and the theatrical version just recently passed away.
Who else came for Wall-E?
Me
@@TedGahan01 Okay.
Me
Me XD
Not me . Didn't know in Wall-e
When they say they dont write songs like that anymore...its very true. RIP...JERRY.😢
Genius arrangements. Just makes you want to watch that glorious film again.
@Jusith- Never has "genius" been more aptly assigned.
Kudos!
Absolutely brilliant 😊
this orchestra is very similar to the original soundtrack i’m so happy lmao

Wow, Stuart Matthew Price sings TOTALLY on key... really beautiful voice!!
Uplifting in times of uncertainty. God bless these people. Can't wait till they are back performing.❤️
Take heart Jen - we're getting there!
One of the best musicals ever made..adore John Wilson Orchestra.

Personally i think she has a great voice.

her voice is why I come back to this version of the song. can’t explain why:)
Love this faithful reproduction of this song from the 1969 film Hello Dolly. Beautifully sung with a perfect orchestration!! 👍👍
This was my High School Senior play in 1978. Oh the memories. Billings Senior School, Billings Montana. Hello Dolly
When I was very young, I was cast in a circa-1978 high school play of Dolly! as the kid. My older siblings were in the play, and I played the kid parts. I remember waving flags, drinking coffee for the first time and all the songs. Happy experience.
Same here. Mine was 2007 at Souderton High School. I was on light crew and fell in love with live theater.
Same... high school play 1971. I played French horn in the orchestra... unforgettable memories!
This is too good. So underrated :(
try watching the movie its so underrated
This is the most incredible performances I have ever seen
Who else came here from wall-e? Goddamn I love that movie
The orchestration was phenomenally ... awesome!
I’m so glad they chose to do the film’s arrangement of the song, it’s so memorable!
How utterly delightful! Sung to the hilt like a super bouncy show tune should be sung😊
Terrific rendition of one of the most interesting and complicated musical orchestrations ever!
Point and counterpoint unending enhance the melody continuously. Such a treat!

I should thank wall-e for introducing hello dolly to me
This song bounces joyfully along. Brings a big smile to my face. 😊
Ditto😊
Absolutely love this!! One of my most favourite movies when I was a kid
This is fantastic. A concert version of Put On Your Sunday Clothes with the film orchestration. One of my favorite films.
Good bless Jerry Herman! And then Mr Wilson and company. This brightens life.
What a happy song!!! Wonderful orchestra!!!
What a joyous, heartwarming song from the play, movie, “Hello Dolly”. This chorus is marvelous and John Wilson, the conductor, is phenomenal! 🥰👍
This is one of the great musical songs. Just an enchanting melody and great lyrics. This is an excellent performance, but the Helo Dolly movie is the gold standard.

Oh, this is so gorgeous! Thank you so much for such a beautiful rendition!
Glad you like it!
I thank walle for bringing me here
Dana Hoxie Ushering guests into the theater for the performance since 2012.
One of Jerry Herman's BEST songs. It moves you and sweeps you INTO the feeling of the show. Also, this is the movie rendition of the song.
I feel exactly the same - one of his best songs, and it works so well in the show. (And yes, it is indeed the movie version, which I prefer to the stage version).
That classic sound of Broadway is great!!!!!!
YES--BUT ALL JOHN WILSON ORCHESTRATIONS OF ROGER'S AND HAMMERSTEIN MUSIC, IS TAKEN FROM THE FILM SOUNDTRACK ARRANGEMENTS. AND DOESN'T IT SHOW--WOW !
I love this song one of my favourites from the greatest magical musical " Hello Dolly" , the soloists are OUTSTANDING along with the chorus, this such a an uplifting song and Mr John Wilson and Orchestra play with such energy , wonderful, so joyous to watch.
A real treat, superb orchestra, soloists and chorus.
So great!
This Great musical is way underrated....
This is a great performance!! I saw the movie in 1969, never heard of Wall-E, but glad others found it too.
this is actually my favourite song hands down
Love this arrangement so much. I held my breath when she flubbed the lyrics near the end to see if she'd recover. 😱
Another terrific Jerry Herman song. Performed beautifully
My first bigger role in a show was Ermengarde, I love this song! It takes me back
Spectacular!
I so love this song. ❤
Wall-e ♡
Phenomenal performance!
Wall-E's awesome, but please also watch Hello Dolly! You'll be surprised at how similar their themes are.
The song Put on Your Sunday Clothes is from Hello Dolly
thats because its the same song silly
WOW, that was fantastic!!! Everyone in this is top quality. Everyone's vocal quality and diction is so clear and pure and that orchestration...amazing! They all make it look effortless.
Love this song! 😍😍😍
I could listen to this till the cows come home. Excellent.
This tune always puts a pep in my step. Terrific performance! And yay for those shots of the trumpet and trombone sections!
The blonde guy just sounds like Michael Crawford. The music orchestration along with chorus its just wonderful, like everything the BBC does. But... there's no other voice like the one and only Barbra Streisand!

Jackie Mcmeekin lucky you.......RIP Miss Carol Channing.
As if I see the film itself! Fantastic
Let's not forget the composer of this wonderful score: Jerry Herman.
He also wrote the song "I Am What I Am".
These kinds of melodies have faded from the scene for no good reason. Jerry Herman gave the theater so much. We will not see his like again.
Just wonderful!! One of my favorite songs from the movie version. 🎵 👍👍👍
I love how they leaned into the “kids singing” part of this song 😂
The on-line Proms archive for this concert gives the names of the soloists: Stuart Matthew Price sang the part of Cornelius and the other singers were Annalene Beechey, Charles Castronovo, Matthew Ford, Sarah Fox, Caroline O'Connor and Clare Teal.
LOVE THE LEAD MALE SINGER AS WELL THE REST OF THE EXEMPLARY CHORUS:-)) THANKS
That's was marvellous....👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Fantastic singers and orchestra!
I call for a remake of hello dolly set in the same period
Tears of happiness here!!
Absolutely fantastic!

Pitch, tone, phrasing, he's got it all.
Fantastic lyric singer.
None better than him!!!

Correct and good catch!
Lyric changed for the Broadway revival - probably muscle memory more than anything!
What a song. What a performance. Superb
I agree in genere and number superb
My favorite song on WALL•E!!
Such a Delightful Song & Cast. :) Makes you want to 'Put on Your Sunday Clothes and Have Your Picture Took'!
ABSOLUTELY PERFECT. ❤️❤️❤️
Brilliant.
To be backed by a full symphony orchestra and choir instead of a small pit ensemble...wow!
I got to see the original Broadway production starring Carol Channing back in the days when ticket prices were affordable.
Amazing!
