Fun Fact: This movie was the very first movie that I ever got to watch at an actual movie theater. I remember seeing the teaser for this movie back in 2007, a year before the film's actual release. When I first saw WALL-E's design, I instantly fell in love with him. He had such a charming and unique personality, even if it were just through the trailers. I literally begged and pleaded with my dad to see the film next year in June of 2008, which was the month of the film's theatrical release. I had never gone to a cinema prior to WALL-E's release: before, I had just watched all of the movies we owned through our DVD releases. While watching the movies at home is a great experience, it did not have the same charm as actually going to a movie theater to see it on release. This was the movie that I wanted to see the absolute most that year, and by God I waited patiently for that movie to hit its June 2008 release window. And when the day of the film's release finally arrived, I kept begging and pleading for my dad to take me to my local movie theater. And as such, a few days after the film releases, we get in the car, and drive to a nearby city next to the small town I live in. We currently have two movie theaters that are close to us: Galaxy 10 and an AMC Classic theater which used to belong to Carmike Cinemas. But, there was a 3rd movie theater as well, in the same city that our Carmike theater was located in. It was right next to our local Hastings store (may Hastings rest in peace). A while later, that movie theater in particular was closed permanently and eventually was replaced with a Dollar Tree grocery store. While I can't remember the exact name of the theater, I remember that's the one we went to. Anyways, we pull up to the theater, get our tickets, and sit in the chairs in the theater, waiting for the previews to start. I kid you not, I could NOT stay seated as my body was full of excitement. This was the first movie I was ever going to see in an actual theater. In my eyes, this was going to be an absolute memorable moment in my life. And when the previews started, I got more excited. I literally was jumping around in the seat, and my dad had to literally get me to stop and stay still, seated in the chair. And then, the film finally started, and I just sat there, watching the film, not saying a word. I sat there and watched in awe as I listened to WALL-E's very limited type of vocabulary, and as he fell for Eve, who he refers to as Eva. I was getting emotionally attached to the characters in the theater. And when WALL-E was crushed, oh man, that shed some tears. That felt like a punch to the gut. And when we finally walked out of the theater, I said I loved the movie and couldn't wait for its DVD release. We eventually got the movie on DVD when it finally had its physical release on home media, and I have watched it God knows how many times at this point. Nevertheless, I will never forget this film for being the first film I ever got to see in a movie theater. I have seen a lot of films inside cinemas now, but before WALL-E, I never saw a single movie of any kind in the cinema. That was the turning point. This film truly had a cultural impact on my life, and it was a truly amazing experience to get to see it in theaters. A part of me wants Disney to do a theatrical re-release of WALL-E as an anniversary celebration so I can relive that experience all over again. =)
The way they opened up a Pixar movie with such a disgusting, filthy environment is amazing. Like for a lot of kids this was the first look at environmental destruction they saw
Like at 0:11 with the trumpets in the back and it just shows those two planets and the sun is just something I will never forget this opening is awesome
Disney/Pixar should definitely do more space themed animations. I dont give a fuck if it's A Space Odyssey for kids. I'm just dying for more SPAAAAACEEE!
Put this into perspective. The film takes place in around 2800. Humans have been evacuated from the planet since 2105. That’s only 97 years after 2008 (the release of Wall-e) and 82 years from now!
@@TheProfessional15 Inception is great but oh boy it really is one of the most confusing films ever on first watch. It only gets better the second or third time
I knew I was in for something within the first minutes when I saw this movie. Then when I saw Wall-E on dead Earth I cried. The first part of this movie I cry every time. It was one of my favorite movie going experiences.
The first 26 seconds has to be one of the most beautiful movie intros in cinematic history. 0:30-1:15: I agree with the analysis in the description. The fact that this song gradually fades out into a distant echo makes it even more memorable, much more so than if it had reached its natural conclusion or ended abruptly. I feel like it helps signifies humankind (and most o life's) gradual departure (or extinction) from Earth, and evokes a melancholic atmosphere to this sad scene of our planet.
This might be my favourite opening scene from any movie, ever. There aren't many films that manage to set up the tone, story and message so smoothly, so gorgeously and so expertly. It's managed to age perfectly in every way, too.
Responding to your description: I think the 50s/60s is chosen because of the smuggness and self righteousness of the time. Gaining TVs, plastic, microwaves, etc en large made people pretty optimistic about the future and pretty smug about where they were now. Fast forward and we see the negative effects of all this single use plastic and other inventions which werent earth friendly at all. Its an easy place to point to as the beginning of the rapid decline. Though I think its more accurate to look back at all the industrial revolutions and similar points in history, its admittedly an easy and modern symbol to point to that transition period where consumerism grew so rampantly as though resources were infinite.
I feel sorry 4 wall.e being left on earth for 7 centuries. Stupid auto not letting the humans return to Earth and repair the damage the earth is now. I hope this never happens in the real world. 🙁
I love how the music and the galaxy and stars go so perfectly together in the beginning, and it creates a very charming intro, and then it shows our deserted Earth filled with garbage and remains of what once was beaming with life and civilization, and yet the happy music still plays. What’s even more ironic is the music describing a world that is completely different than the world you’re being shown. It really shocked me the first time, and it’s quite unsettling if you think about it. This intro is so cool but it fills me with a deep sense of sadness. Like... this really could happen. The Earth can become such a barren wasteland, populated by robots that live on forever, endlessly sorting garbage left behind by humans who have been long gone. Overall, this movie really makes you think...
I love WALL-E. After re watching it after many years, I can say its one of my favorite movies ever. But there is one thing that has stuck with me. I am not sure what to call it or if anyone out there cares as much as I do, but, the idea of a ruined city, vast open areas and a song playing in the distance. This idea was gifted to me by WALL-E and I haven't been able to find a lot similar to it since. What first sparked this vibe to me was the song "Aftermath" by Caravan Palace. But that part isn't a huge part of the song. I found it again with "In the Garden" by Red Vox and here am. If anyone out there knows about this depressing, lonely feeling and has a name for it, please tell me where to find more.
I just love how there is minimal logos. It's just disney and Pixar logos, and also there's no humongous title after the intro. It's just a lot more satisfying to look at.
Back when I was a kid, I looked at this opening scene as if it were beautiful. The mountains of garbage and rusted human technology were comical to me, and paired with the song, the whole thing just emitted this aura of joyfullness that a child is naive enough to pick up on. But now that I'm older, I realize just how ominous this opening scene truly is. Gorgeous, but terrifying nonetheless.
I can just imagine being at the Cinema in 2008 watching as how one of the best movie intros ever is being played right in front of you.. for the first time.
Nuclear power plant is Three Mile Island, the city skyline was I though New York City, but it's actuality Virginia Beach or a futuristic Chesapeake Bay city. The shipyard in the movie is in Chesapeake Bay. The wind farms are in the rural hillsides of Pennsylvania and West Virginia and Maryland. So ultimately Wall-E takes place in the Mid-Atlantic US.
Man, I really love the sci-fi genre and I think that WALL•E is the first sci-fi I ever liked and introducing me to other sci-fis such as Portal and Dead Space, But honestly, WALL•E is very special and smarter than any sci-fi I ever looked at They really managed to tell the audiences to understand what's going on with a few dialogue, and with the help of music and little expressions too, And also they managed to tell the audience to keep protecting the earth without wasting environments without involving aliens and monsters, unknown things out there in space, Which it's unique. And one more thing a robot being main character for a sci-fi story is kind of a rare considering many humans is the main characters of most sci-fi story, WALL•E is the masterpiece sci-fi ever Pixar created and yet Pixar can't and never will ever made another movie that will be good as much as WALL•E even as yet they tried to make Lightyear.
be_kawaii _51 I would really appreciate an WALL-E 2, but I don't think that the plot could be that complex, they're rebuilding the earth, so isn't that interesting. just if something beyond the space came into earth or something.
Here's an idea: walle- and eve are sent to alert the other BNL ships that the Axiom has returned to Earth. Then they go off to bring them back and shut down the other autopilots.

Same space is beautiful :)
One of the planets is Jupiter, the savior who brought Wall-E to TH-cam for free
Disney/Pixar should definitely do more space themed animations. I dont give a fuck if it's A Space Odyssey for kids. I'm just dying for more SPAAAAACEEE!

Put this into perspective. The film takes place in around 2800. Humans have been evacuated from the planet since 2105. That’s only 97 years after 2008 (the release of Wall-e) and 82 years from now!
I absolutely love how this movie relies on feel more than dialogue. I wish they made more movies that followed that.
Yeah, if there's one movie that gives good advice on how to do the "show, don't tell" approach, it's this one.

“ and we come home until we kiss the girl,”
It was actually foreshadowing the end of the movie
I knew I was in for something within the first minutes when I saw this movie. Then when I saw Wall-E on dead Earth I cried. The first part of this movie I cry every time. It was one of my favorite movie going experiences.
No offence but your overdramatic. There are things in this movie that are cry-worthy but this isn’t one of them.
this is literally the most unforgettable movie intro ever
The first 26 seconds has to be one of the most beautiful movie intros in cinematic history.
0:30-1:15: I agree with the analysis in the description.
The fact that this song gradually fades out into a distant echo makes it even more memorable, much more so than if it had reached its natural conclusion or ended abruptly. I feel like it helps signifies humankind (and most o life's) gradual departure (or extinction) from Earth, and evokes a melancholic atmosphere to this sad scene of our planet.
0:30-1:15

@@marcusmiller5568 did you not read the SECOND part?
Overall, this movie really makes you think...

honestly im not sure if all the water dried up or if its just so poluted that it turned dark gray
i think poluted there is no way that all the water can just dry up and disappear
FLORIDAN MAPPER So polluted that it's not consumable.
kab hes yeah but that water HAS been there for like over 700 years and global warming would keep getting worse
The water looks to be there, though I doubt it’d be consumable in any way, shape or form.
The water kills you when you go near it.
This movie is the key reason why i love post-apocalyptic and space sci-fi themes ♥
Same
liminal space?
I just love how there is minimal logos. It's just disney and Pixar logos, and also there's no humongous title after the intro. It's just a lot more satisfying to look at.
Back when I was a kid, I looked at this opening scene as if it were beautiful. The mountains of garbage and rusted human technology were comical to me, and paired with the song, the whole thing just emitted this aura of joyfullness that a child is naive enough to pick up on. But now that I'm older, I realize just how ominous this opening scene truly is. Gorgeous, but terrifying nonetheless.
I love how cheery the music is while Earth is depicted as an absolute hell hole
Got this movie for Christmas in 2008 at my grandparents house. Watched it later day and fell so in love with this movie.
I can just imagine being at the Cinema in 2008 watching as how one of the best movie intros ever is being played right in front of you.. for the first time.
I will never forget it honestly
Nuclear power plant is Three Mile Island, the city skyline was I though New York City, but it's actuality Virginia Beach or a futuristic Chesapeake Bay city. The shipyard in the movie is in Chesapeake Bay. The wind farms are in the rural hillsides of Pennsylvania and West Virginia and Maryland. So ultimately Wall-E takes place in the Mid-Atlantic US.
That’s an interesting theory. I always thought it was Charlotte or Atlanta but the shipyard seems to tie it together

Love how the flyover of the city at the beginning is an homage to the opening scene in West Side Story. Brilliant.
Literally the best opening in a movie ever, and I loved this movie

I'll never forget how hard this opening hit the first time I watched this movie. WALL-E is without a doubt one of the great cinema masterpieces.

We rarely get movies that includes pollution.
This movie revolves around pollution.
Can't believe it's been about 15 or 16 years already... and this song is still stuck in my head like I saw it yesterday

Here you can feel this atmosphere of the earth to the fullest.

That is one seriously tough roach. He gets run over at least twice in this movie and survives a point-blank laser blast.
This video should be called "Time machine", because brings you back of more than 10 years, but also 700 years in the future. I love this movie!
I love movie openings like this that provide such brilliant contrast between beauty and tragedy.
randomly just started humming this song and all of my memories flooded back- I loved and still love this movie. forever will be my favorite
This could only be more brutally ironic if they went with _Mr. Blue Sky._
It took me going to see “Hello, Dolly” live to realize this was the intro song to Wall-e. What a classic!
This song fits so well with a space theme it's insane
Don't tell me there's garbage covering Antarctica!!

global warming might have already killed them too. who knows. poor pangrens indeed
Nobody wanted to go to Antarctica because it's cold as fuck so it's used as a dumping ground.
@@SeantheDracunyan76 "pangrens" XD
Spencer Antarctica is probably gone in that film
I can't believe they made a Pixar movie about New York City
God I love this intro, it will never get old.
Me too
It really won't get old
Now this is how you open a film! The juxtaposition of the upbeat music with the dystopian backdrop, pure genius.
Man, I really love the sci-fi genre and I think that WALL•E is the first sci-fi I ever liked and introducing me to other sci-fis such as Portal and Dead Space,
But honestly, WALL•E is very special and smarter than any sci-fi I ever looked at
They really managed to tell the audiences to understand what's going on with a few dialogue, and with the help of music and little expressions too, And also they managed to tell the audience to keep protecting the earth without wasting environments without involving aliens and monsters, unknown things out there in space, Which it's unique. And one more thing a robot being main character for a sci-fi story is kind of a rare considering many humans is the main characters of most sci-fi story, WALL•E is the masterpiece sci-fi ever Pixar created and yet Pixar can't and never will ever made another movie that will be good as much as WALL•E even as yet they tried to make Lightyear.
does anyone want a wall.e 2 cause I do! I love wall.e
be_kawaii _51 I heard after The Incredibles 2 (which comes out in 2019) Pixar is gonna just stick to original films for a while
I don't think that there could be a wall-e two.. Unless its a new kind of robot or something
be_kawaii _51 I would really appreciate an WALL-E 2, but I don't think that the plot could be that complex, they're rebuilding the earth, so isn't that interesting. just if something beyond the space came into earth or something.
They story ended delightfully. My favorite movie ever. But I don't think it needs a sequel. It would just drag on
Here's an idea: walle- and eve are sent to alert the other BNL ships that the Axiom has returned to Earth. Then they go off to bring them back and shut down the other autopilots.
This wasn’t just a movie…
*Its a warning*
